There is still beauty...
...in this sometimes ugly & hateful world we live in. I took these last week while on vacation in the Adirondack Mountains in Jay, NY. Please take a look at them, take a deep breath & know that there is still good in this world.

Last but not least. I found this sign at the top of Whiteface Mountain:
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y19...s/100_1032.jpg OK, it reads "The Ledges", but I cropped it for us. :p |
Gorgeous pictures. Makes me want to go hiking or something...and that is SO not like me. I'm a city boy to the core.

Gorgeous couple! Gorgeous photos! You're so lucky you get fall foliage. I got excited the other day when I saw ONE orange-leafed tree along the highway.

Thanks Paula ! Fantastic nature shots. And the hubby is a doll.:wavey:

Thanks for the compliments. I'm glad you're all enjoying them. Figured I'd post something positive on The Ledge for a change. Now hopefully nobody will argue over which is better, water or trees.

I was thinking of moving a while back, but opted not to. I can't imagine living anywhere but New England. It's too precious to me, there's no other place like my great state of Massachusetts. Even when I'm away, I miss it greatly. That's love, baby. |

Very lovely pictures, guys!
I guess we all feel the place we live/love is the most beautiful. Here are pictures of 'home' to me. My ancestors came from Scotland and settled in the mountains and coves of North Carolina, Tennessee, and southeastern Kentucky. The Great Smokies, Blue Ridge, Natahala, etc. Legend says that the Scots settled here because the area reminded them so much of their beloved Scottish Highlands. To my family, nothing compares to this beauty. http://smokyphotos.com/images/leconte.jpg http://smokyphotos.com/images/CadesCove3.jpg http://smokyphotos.com/images/Wayah5.jpg http://smokyphotos.com/images/BlueRidge2.jpg http://smokyphotos.com/images/BlueRidge10.jpg http://smokyphotos.com/images/2000AndrewsBald10.jpg This last picture is the Walker Sisters Cabin. The Walker Sisters were 5 self sufficient women who lived here during the first part of the 20th century. They were also my great-great aunts. They lived with no electricity or running water, grew everything they ate, and made their own clothing and furniture. Newspaper from the 40's still covers the inside walls of the cabin. Real pioneer women, especially for the times they lived in. When the Smoky Mountains were in the midst of becoming a national park, the sisters refused to sell their land and move. Finally, after the park dedication in 1936, president Roosevelt paid a secret visit to them in a last ditch effort to convice them. 6 months later, they signed on the dotted line, with the stipulation that they could live out there lives in their family home. The last sister passed away in the 1960's. http://smokyphotos.com/images/2000WalkerSisters3.jpg |

Brown County's okay, it's Nashville that sucks!!! There's NO such thing as privacy there, period. Everybody knows the low down on everyone in the place. If you don't mind your entire community up your ass, it's a great place to live! Me, personally, I couldn't get out of there fast enough!!!!! And again, Brown County State Park saddle barn was my first job, at 13! Shoveling horse**** out of the stalls, and running the pony rides. My uncle works there a couple days a week now, just for something to do in his retirement. Once you've been bitten in the ass, HARD, by a pony, you'll never feel the same way about them, again. Apparently, she liked biting 13 yo booty... Surely she's dead by now..... :sorry: for the stroll down mammary lane.:) |

Are you still going to be saying that you would never leave New England when this winter comes? I want to hear you say that when the freezing cold and snow arrive.:p  |
Beautiful pics, Paula! I used to visit that part of the world far more often when I lived in Montreal... Quebec's eastern Townships, down through Vermont, also absolutely stunning this time of year.
And Happy Anniversary!! Your hubby's a hottie. |
awesome photos, the fall is beautiful up there, we are just now getting the trees to start shanging colors aroung here~
|
Great pictures Paula
As usual...your photos are stunning. You have a talent girlie;)
Here in NH, autumn has arrived late this year-lots of rain and wind, but the leaves held on and didn't really change color until this week, Now it it just beautiful....peaceful and quiet as the leaves gather on the ground. Like most, it is my fav. time of year. Stews and Roasts and sitting by the fireplace each night- Very cozy and warm. Also, I enjoy this time because I know it is just going to get colder and whiter:thumbsup: Winters, I love them too. New England really does have it all and I am blessed to be from here and staying here. Thanks again for the pictures- and Happy Anniversary !! |

We are not going too far north just a bit over the MA border. Do you happen to know where the "Stonehenge" in NH is located? |
