The Diamond Three
OK. I can't believe after watching the video for "Gypsy" for the past 23 years, that I haven't noticed this until the last couple of months.
But in the "modern-day" scenes of the video here Stevie is in the flowy white dress twirling around the enchanted forest with her pink-lit hair.... she is wearing a - what appears to be - a diamond studded - number 3 - a big number 3 - charm on her necklace.... I'm guessing that it is all within her "pyramid and the power of 3 stories...." I love her pyramid and crescent moon gold necklace charms.... I can't believe I never noticed this one though... And I know that Bella Donna sold 3 million in its early days and that may be another one of Stevie's stories about the "charmed 3" thing going on here in the early 80's... Does anyone have any info on this necklace or other pics of her in it? I would love to see any if somebody has them.... Suddenly I am fascinated all over again... and it is like I am 16 again waiting for the Gypsy video to play on MTV again in 1982.... Gosh, those were the days.... .... I still see your bright eyes.... I can't find you..... |
I never noticed that either. I was probably distracted by the half a tree. ;)

I never noticed that myself. But I do remember hearing stories about the necklace, tho they escape me right now...
|
i have noticed that also, & always wondered the significance of it:shrug: ~
|
I had heard it was a gift for selling 3 million Bella Donna Albums.
|
I haven't seen it, but could it be the "om" symbol?

Oh, so that is a three, then? I think I had someone recently ask me about the pendant to which I never noticed before, either. I like it though. It's simple and sleek like her other pendants of the day. I thought it was an Om symbol, too, at first. Now to find other photos of it!

it becomes a quest really quickly..hehe |
Yes, you're right! It does become a mission. :) A fun one though!
|
yup...it was for the 3 million copies of BD. somewhee in my archive of stuff, there is an interview where it was mentioned. In fact, I am going to go thru all my vidio soon. I just got the tivo that can burn dvd's and it's a snap to take vids and put them on it and burn it to disc. I figured that magnetic media doesn't get better with age, so putting it on dvd may be a wise move. not to mention trading and travel is easier in the disc format.

It's in the Wild Heart press kit. I'll transcribe it when I get home tonight. :wavey:

Okay, I put in the stuff right before it, so you can kinda see where she was coming from in the "3" quote....
"My art teacher Phillip, who did the Grateful Dead weird skeleton playing backwards violin with the red sunglasses, very Jimi Hendrix, very strange, he said, 'you cannot make a mistake in art, so even if you think you've made the worst mistake in the world,' - like a big hole in the paper - 'you just sit down, take a deep breath, and realize that you cannot make a mistake; even if you cannot fix what's happened, you can tell everybody that it's exactly what you wanted." Not exactly Stevie's philosophy on music, but close - close enough for harmony, at least, since she does believe that demos - the raw, initial birthplace of songs on tape - are "the special ones, the ones that you sing wonderfully, and from your heart - and you never expect it to go on a record, so you give everything to it. You don't do that when you're under the gun, and it ceases to be free then." And 'demo freedom' is very much to be found on her new album, The Wild Heart, whose title Stevie conceived virtually before Bella Donna, her first solo effort was even released. "You see, I knew, somehow, that Bella Donna was going to sell three million - which is why a special friend of mine had a diamond 3 made for me when it did actually happen. But it was my belief that made it all right to conceive of the second album before the first one even came out, without even having a song to hold up to the title, The Wild Heart..." The whole interview is really great. I should transcribe the whole thing when I get a chance. |
