Irvine Meadows 10.18.82

It's time again for ugly pictures!!!! Shot by Yours Truly at the City of Hope show in 1982. I'll post my Stevie pictures from the Irvine Meadows show in 1983 on the Stevie board -- I was looking at those & they're actually a little better than my Fleetwood Mac shots.

From one David to another, nice pictures!!

What do you mean ugly? Those are really good! Did you get any shots of Lindsey?? From the looks of it, you seemed to be pretty focused on Stevie. ;) Did Lindsey wear that outfit for every Mirage show?

ontheEdgeof17 10-08-2005 03:19 AM

Thanks again, D. Always great to look back on history.

To me, the Mirage era was Stevie's worst look. I just don't like it.

Worse than BTM? Surely you jest! Sorry, but bad perms are nowhere near as bad an offense as a stonewashed jean skirt.

That's a perm?

Seems to me she got out of bed...played in the rain....rolled in the mud a couple of times and brush it forward.

Well, and old perm that's worn out & frizzy, it seems to me. Either way - still better than late 80's/early 90's Stevie.

You're right.

I still prefer SA era Stevie over this look, though. She looks way cracked out. I think it's the golf ball sized bags under her eyes that makes me shudder.

OK, I'll give you that. Although I'm not totally sure if fuzzy old perm trumps crimped tresses.

David these are great photos! Is this the show where Don Henley showed up at?

I can't wait to see the WH photos.

Yeah, that's what I thought too first, didn't she sing Leather And Lace with him on that evening! I'd love to see pics of that! Your pics are amazing!

mylittledemon 10-08-2005 07:46 PM

David, they are without a doubt some of the worst pics I've ever seen. But they made me chuckle, so I gotta thank ya for posting them anyway. My mother has some that she took in 1980 at one of the shows...i remember seeing them once when I was about 15 or 16, now she doesnt know where they are. From what I recall, they were really good.

Same here!!!

I thought Second Hand News made a great opener to their set as well!

David...I think I read a description of Leather and Lace that you posted before but can you describe the whole thing again, please? Did anyone know Don was there before he came out? He walked out after Stevie was already singing, right? (that is the way it sounds on the audio) Lindsey and Christine played it for her? Did they do a good job?

Thanks for the photos too! I can forgive Stevie for the bags under her eyes...she was going through Hell at that time. Landslide is so sad from this show. "I know she's here"...:distress:

danax6 10-15-2005 07:51 AM

I'd like to know why Don was there...

Thanks David for the pictures. I like adding concert photo's to the boots that I have, so I have some visual aids when I listen to them. :)

Yep, Don was a scheduled guest. His name is even on the T-shirt! It was all planned.

I don't remember exactly, but that's what it sounds like on the tape. Sounds as if Stevie started the first verse, & then Don came out while Stevie was singing the first chorus. What I remember is that when all the other bands were playing & Don didn't play, I think people generally thought that Don had canceled -- because we didn't know he was going to do a song with Stevie during the Fleetwood set. We figured he'd do his own set like Joe Walsh & Glenn Frey.

They played it. They did ... you know ... a good job. They didn't play the right chords, but they did fine. The song obviously doesn't need much more than some acoustic guitar strumming & some electric piano.

It was really a great show in terms of something being weird. I used to call it my favorite live Fleetwood performance, & it probably still is one of my favorites. They were very loud but very clear -- excellent sound from the sound man. Did you read Robert Hilburn's review in the L.A. Times? Les hunted that up & posted it to the BLA. In a year-end Times Calendar, Hilburn called it the best concert in Orange County that year. "Sisters of the Moon" was the best -- it makes the one at the Forum sound like Anne Murray -- & Lindsey got a really huge standing ovation for "I'm So Afraid." The whole night was a combination of unnerving & exhilarating. I'm still looking for my little blue brochure that had Robin's picture on it. I have my T-shirt but I don't think I have my ticket stubs any more.

Kelly 10-16-2005 06:29 AM

Thanks! That is interesting that the brochure had Robin's photo on it.

I love listening to this version of L and L and imagining what it would have been like being there. I would have loved to hear LB play that tune.
