I can honestly say I HAVE NEVER heard of this group until you mentioned liking them...I originally went to the sight to read the Liz Phair interview but then saw that and thought I would let you know! :wavey:

What type of music is it?

Meh, I don't know what I'd call them. Dance rock sounds cheesy but I suppose that's what I'd call them. Though their new album is very different from their first one, it's a weird amalgamation of Bowie, Blondie, and The Beatles all rolled up together.

I heard Stars and Planets from Phair's new album and that tune rocks. Love it.

I'll have to check them out...

Yea I like "Stars and Planets"! Where did you hear it? It seems like Liz Phair is the new "real" Sheryl Crow? LOL

I can't stand most current bands, but they are most definitely the exception to the rule. They're right up with the Mac and Blondie for me; love them.

I downloaded the album from a bit torrent site to see if it was worth buying and it was the first track I played. I'm digging it and will more than likely pick it up next week.

If Sheryl continues on the current path to mediocrity that she's on, we're going to need a new one. I caved and bought the limited edition of Wildflower and felt like I had been ripped off; the "acoustic" songs on the second disc are the exact same as the album songs without all the bells and whistles. BORING.

Wow...I'll go ahead and buy one of their albums then (I got money to blow)...what do you suggest?

Well I like wildflower pretty good, which I already explained...BUT I DIDN'T get the special edition (too much!). A&M needs to get with the much-more-cheaper "Dual Disc"...COULD YOU PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me the acoustic songs????!!!!

BTW...Sheryl said that she has another album coming out next year after the tour for this one...that is more her "norm"!

I haven't had luck finding them. I think they're in one of the "What Are You Listening To" threads, so that means they're probably burried.

They've only done two albums; their first one is self-titled and their second comes out on Tuesday called "You Could Have It So Much Better." Both are fab and I'm sure they'll be on sale and you could get both for $20 or less.

I love the DualDiscs. The ones I have for Blondie's "Curse" and Bowie's "Reality" are amazing (didn't notice much of a difference with Carly Simon's new album); they sound like different albums in 5.1 stereo. And the DVD extras kick.

I already tried to rip the acoustic songs but couldn't because it's a DVD.

A&M is a piece of **** record label anyway...*cough*didn't promote Amy Grant anymore...*cough*...so of course they will never get with the dualdisc!

And I WANT THE ACOUSTIC VERSIONS...I'm a sucker for a singer and a guitar!

Yep...I read it in a recent interview...so it isn't scraped...it will come out next year!

But the writing on Wildflowers isn't THAT bad...it's just from a place of love...which maybe doesn't inspire Sheryl as much as darkness does. :shrugs:

Brwn_eyes0511 09-29-2005 08:55 PM

speaking of lyrics...now these are some great ones...

Polyester Bride
Liz Phair

I was talking not two days ago
To a certain bartender I'm lucky to know
I asked Henry my bartending friend
If I should go on dating unfamous men

And Henry said
You're lucky to even know me
You're lucky to be alive
You're lucky to be drinking here for free
Cause I'm a sucker for your lucky pretty eyes

And then he said
Do ya wanna be a polyester bride
Do ya wanna hang your head and die
Do ya wanna find alligator cowboy boots they just put on sale
Do ya wanna flap your wings and fly
Away from here

I was sitting not two days ago
Feeling lonely cause I'm just feeling low
And I asked Henry my bartending friend
Why is it that there are those kind of men

And Henry said
You're lucky to even know me
You're lucky to be alive
You're lucky to be drinking here for free
Cause I'm a sucker for your lucky pretty eyes

And then he said
Do ya wanna be a polyester bride
Do ya wanna hang your head and die
Do ya wanna find alligator cowboy boots they just put on sale
Do ya wanna flap your wings and fly
Away from here

Cause you've got time
He keeps telling me
you've got time
But I don't believe him
You've got time
Keep on pushing harder
I keep on pushing farther away
He keeps telling me maybe
He says maybe

Do ya wanna be a polyester bride
Do ya wanna hang your head and die
Do ya wanna find alligator cowboy boots they just put on sale
Do ya wanna flap your wings and fly
Away from here

Do ya wanna be a polyester bride

ahh...no one can do them like Liz!

I've noticed that it's really only Sony that releases the DualDiscs. All the ones I have are on the Sony label, at least.

They're just the studio tracks without all of the production. Marked improvements for sure, though.

Man, Sparks pointed out the "If butterlfies are free to fly" line and I haven't been able to listen to those songs the same way ever since. "Letter To God"...christ, what a stinker.

Rob Thomas...I don't believe he is with a record label that derives from Sony.

Good seat? I hope so! :D I'm just going to their New York shows, I wasn't on the ball for the Boston show and was too concerned with getting good tix for the other ones. Shame on me.

Ten times better than the first album. You'll orgasm over "Outsiders," I swear.

Row seven! It was a total impulse buy because I just checked on a whim but when that came up I couldn't let it go.

So the fact that you thought that I thought that making you appear homphobic would imply you were in the closet is in and of itself a little suspicious...

Are you suuuure you're not hiding something???

What I meant was that I'm not in any way homophobic, and I would never HATE or find you DISGUSTING just because you thought I was cute! Why? It's a complement!

Actually I noticed it too but decided to leave it. I figured a pure, upstanding guy such as yourself would never read into it like that. My mistake. :wavey: ;)

But since you bring it up, is it possible the thought did get a "rise" out of you???

I'm usually quick to take note of a double entendre, since I tend to use them myself. However, that one just zoomed right past me until a second reading. I have never made any claim to the label of "pure"! :D
