Movie Musical Poll

I can only post 10 choices, so I rounded up some of the biggies. So vote away...I'm curious.

This is my very fist (and probably last poll) I've ever done.

Brwn_eyes0511 09-26-2005 03:37 PM

Do you have a cigarette darling? I'M DESPERATE!!!!

:D

dissention 09-26-2005 03:38 PM

I'll have to ponder this for a few minutes, dear. If Rocky Horror was on there, it would have gotten my vote in an instant, but I'm torn on a couple of the choices.

what did you decide on?

sparky 09-26-2005 03:45 PM

Since I hate musicals, this was easy. Moulin Rouge. It had a tremendous impact on me. I was an idiot, and completely in love when I saw it. I sobbed like a jackass. The idea of using modern pop music to infuse a dead genre with life is one I like. Way to go Baz. And Catharine Martin is genius.

Cabaret was fun....the others, whatever.

Richard B 09-26-2005 03:45 PM

I thought about Rocky Horror...but it got bumped.

I must say for me, Little Shop of Horros, rocks my vote. I can't get enough of it.

Down on skidrow...

strandinthewind 09-26-2005 03:45 PM

I chose The Sound of Music - perhaps because I habe been called the Baroness " Darling, haven't you ever heard of a delightful little thing called boarding school?" Ebberfeld on more than one occasion

Seriously, the music was fab., Julie Andrews was fab., and who the hell has a dry eye when the big nun BELTS out Climb Every Mountain  Speaking of which there used to be this HUGE drag queen here (Fajita Marinara I think) who did and interesting, but killer rendition of this - it involved props  and that is all I am saying

Also, Grease was great and just so happy.

Rocky comes in as great as well.

Nothing yet. I'm leaning towards Little Shop of Horrors based on creativity alone and because it cracked me up.

I love Moulin Rouge, but it loses points for not having a whole lot of original music and because I f*cking hate Ewan McGregor's oversinging.

BTFLCHLD 09-26-2005 03:48 PM

tommy receives my vote :wavey:

Neal 09-26-2005 03:49 PM

Chicago

It's the only one on the list that I can even bear to watch.

Actually, I really like them all a temendous amount with the exception of Little Shop of Horrors, which I thought was just okay.

I had to chose between Moulin Rouge and Cabaret but I decided on Cabaret just because it's a damn good movie/musical...and Liza just BECAME her character...not to mention the amazing director that was Bob Fosse!

I loved Ewan's singing btw. I can understand what you mean by oversinging...still he has got a great voice on him.

All that camera play drove me nuts and IMO took away from the talent of the Zeta Jones and cast. It was too jumpy and distracting. Also, I am not a huge fan of Fosse, though he had oodles of talent. In the end, I like the movie despite that distraction.

That shot of the camera panning up her legs as Acid Queen starts is one of the best things ever captured on film. Words cannot describe it.

If Chicago would have been made in the 1970's like it was supposed to and Bob Fosse could have actually directed it...it would have been SUPREME!

I believe that had it where Liza and Ann-Margret would star. If only...

Brwn_eyes0511 09-26-2005 03:55 PM

BTW...

Where the freakin' hell is Meet Me In St. Louis or A Star Is Born (1954 version)? :)

He sounds constipated. It drives me nuts. But the movie itself is so bombastic and orgasmic that I'm going to vote for it. Plus, it has Jim Broadbent singing "Like A Virgin." He rocks, bitches.

Producer: robert stigwood and ken russel
Albums: acid queen (76), tommy soundtrack (76), the collected recordings (94)

If your child ain’t all he should be now
This girl will put him right
I’ll show him what he could be now
Just give me one night

I’m the gypsy, the acid queen
Pay me before I start
I’m the gypsy and I’m guaranteed
To mend his aching heart

Give us a room, close the door
Leave us for a while
You won’t be a boy no more
Young, but not a child

I’m the gypsy, the acid queen
Pay me before I start
I’m the gypsy, I’m guaranteed
To tear your soul apart

Gather your wits and hold them fast
Your mind must learn to roam
Just as the gypsy queen must do
You’re gonna hit the road

My work’s been done, now look at him
He’s never been more alive
His head it shakes, his fingers clutch
Watch his body writhe

I’m the gypsy, the acid queen
Pay me before I start
I’m the gypsy, I’m guaranteed
To break your little heart

If your child ain’t all he should be now
This girl will put him right
I’ll show him what he could be now
Just give me one more night

BWAHAHA! I love the "Like A Virgin" number! The best part of the entire movie to me though is the scene after Nicole finds out that she is going to die...

"Today's a day, when dreaming ends..."

Moulin Rouge gets my vote. Kidman's portrayal of Satine is one of my favorite performances ever. I do like many of the others, though, notably Cabaret, Chicago and Grease.

I LOVE Meet Me In St. Louis too!! I thought about both of them, but the darn poll only let me include 10. I tried to grab a large time frame.

Serrart 09-26-2005 03:59 PM

Among those Cabaret (Bob Fosse  ), but my favourite is probably All That Jazz, followed by Rocky Horror Picture Show, On connait La chanson, High Society, Shall We Dance, Meet Me in Saint Louis, The Band Wagon, and so on.

However when people do bring up the Cilla vs. A-M war...Cilla always gets my vote! :D

I'm partial to the "Roxanne" number. Every time I see it, it truly amazes me. Nicole's entrance to "Sparkling Diamonds/Material Girl" is pretty marvelous as well, I think she has such a lovely voice. And, of course, "One Day I'll Fly Away" is awesome.

Chicago was pure campy fun. I loved it, though I am NOT a fan of Zellweger's.

But Meet Me In St. Louis, I suppose, would be my REAL fav. My entire family watches this movie every year on Christmas eve night!

Preach it. "Roxanne" is probably the most well-done scene in the entire movie. Extremely effective.

Followed closely by Grease and then Chicago...

Audrey II: Feed me!

Seymour: How am I supposed to get it?
Audrey II: [singing] Feed me, Seymour / Feed me all night long - That's right, boy! - Go to it, Feed me Seymour / Feed me all night long / Cause if you feed me, Seymour / I can grow up big and strong.
Audrey II: [singing] Would you like a Cadillac car? / Or a guest shot on Jack Paar? / How about a date with Hedy Lamarr? / You can get it.
Audrey II: [singing] I got killer buds / A power stem / Nasty pods / And I'm using them! / So better move 'em out / Nature calls / You got my pun? / I'm gonna bust your balls!

There's a new chinese musical called Perhaps Love (jealousy, tango, lonely angry man singing among the elements) where they pratically copied it, but it works well also in their version

I think they are smoking hot when they looked at each other when singing "how wonderful life is - while you're in the world" - sighes.
