Greatest Supreme Court justice ever

Who do you feel is the best judge America ever had? My vote goes to Antonin Scalia

chiliD 09-23-2005 12:27 PM

John Jay, the first Chief Justice

gldstwmn 09-23-2005 12:34 PM

Thurgood Marshall and William O. Douglas.
My current favorites are Justices Bader Ginsburg, Breyer, Souter and Stevens.

You have got to be kidding with that ridiculous list. Filled with Klansmen, Republicans, and racists, it is. And you wonder why people rarely take you seriously?

I'm surprised Taney isn't listed.

I picked others...

since my faves are Moe (aka O-May), Larry (aka Arry-Lay) & Curly (aka Curly Q)

He admitted in the Carter/Gore thread that he posts to piss people off and cares not if people respect him or apparently if they take him seriously. Thus, he is by my understanding of the definition, a troll in that regard.

To wit:

Yea hello, I never "swore" off pissing liberals off...that really is the point right? I just said that I would be more "gentle" in my pissing off approach!

http://www.ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/sh...89&page=5&pp=3

Do you honestly think that I come here, to gain respect from you guys and to appear as a genius? Of course I am going to look like an idiot! Let’s take a look at the people I’m surrounded by here. One "right-winger" amongst many, many "left-wingers" is not going to be well liked! If you think I'm on a desperate mission to seek the approval of those whom I do not even know...you really have no clue.

http://www.ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/sh...t=22589&page=3

Yet, he then said, quite inexplicably IMO:

Never presented myself as a victim, just simply stated that I wasn't being taken seriously. Not mad about it. Not crying over it. Just said it was pointless!

http://www.ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/sh...9&page=5&pp=15

Then - to the contray of his whining about not being taken seriously:

Again, I don't really care what anyone here thinks of me, hence the "I'm not here to gain respect" reference above. Silly rabbit...

http://www.ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/sh...9&page=5&pp=15

To be fair, the whole thread should be read for a better concept of the context. But, that is what he said in direct response to questions like the one you posed.

There is the option of "other".

A crusade against little ol' me! This is fun. Although I do have to say that the only person who cares...is you! Why do I "get to you" so much?

edit: Note: I would also really appreciate it if you wouldn't hijack all of my threads with this very off topic crusade. Thanks.

I guess you "get to" him because your posts are so disingenuous and flippant and that you usually post inflammatory comments designed to annoy people and then have this "Who me, what'd I do?" faux-sheepish attitude all the while posting dubious material that is rarely backed up by facts, more often supported by opinions of right-wing nut jobs.

I guess maybe that could be it.

Right now, I'm eating a huge hot fudge sundae. The ice cream is too frozen, though, and just gave me a brain freeze.

Anyone else hate when that happens? What other pet peeves do ya'll have?

One of my mouth peeves is when you eat popcorn and the husk gets jammed inbetween the gum and the enamel of the tooth. You have to scrape and scrape and scrape and scrape to get it off (floss never seems to work) much like stepped on dog crap, which is much like Republicans.

Me too - I also hate it when I get a brain freeze from ice cream or a margarita, which I may resort to drinking any moment now

Do you like your margaritas frozen and with salt? That is how I like mine.

That reminds me of Marcello Mastroianni in Altman's "Pret-a-Porter," stepping on dog **** every ten minutes or so over the course of the movie. The poor man had to scrape off a lot of Republicans from the bottom of his shoes during the shooting of that one.

Hmmmmmmm (unless you meant ummmmmmmmmm)

What do you mean, an African or European Swallow? To begin with, I needed basic kinematic data on African and European swallow species.

South African Swallow
(Hirundo spilodera)

European Swallow
(Hirundo rustica)

Although 47 of the 74 worldwide swallow species are found in Africa, only two species are named after the continent: the West African Swallow (Hirundo domicella) and the South African Swallow (Hirundo spilodera), also known as the South African Cave Swallow.

Since the range of the South African Swallow extends only as far north as Zaire, I felt fairly confident that this was the non-migratory African species referred to in previous discussions of the comparative and cooperative weight-bearing capabilities of African and European swallows.

Kinematic data for both African species was difficult to find, but the Barn or European Swallow (Hirundo rustica) has been studied intensively, and kinematic data for that species was readily available.

It’s a simple question of weight ratios

A 54-year survey of 26,285 European Swallows captured and released by the Avian Demography Unit of the University of Capetown finds that the average adult European swallow has a wing length of 12.2 cm and a body mass of 20.3 grams.4

Because wing beat frequency and wing amplitude both scale with body mass,5 and flight kinematic data is available for at least 22 other bird species,6 it should be possible to estimate the frequency (f ) and amplitude (A) of the European Swallow by a comparison with similar species. With those two numbers, it will be possible to estimate airspeed (U).

Another good one!

I also hate when when I bite the inside of my lip while I'm eating. Then for the next week or so, I continue to bite the same spot everytime I eat, till I have a huge, painful ulcer that won't go away and continues to make my life miserable ... kinda like this administration.

On the rocks, no salt. Preferably, a top shelf type margarita with a shot of tequila on top.

Oohhhh.... that sounds like an excellent plan!

I like them frozen and with salt as well, but they have to be strawberry! In fact, I love any frozen strawberry drink. I even make them put strawberrys in my Pina Coladas when I order them in restaurants or bars. One time, though, they just put the strawberry syrup in... and didn't even bother to stir the drink to at least make it look like it was real strawberries. I guess you could add that to my list of pet peeves!

I don't wear sweaters. Here in SoCal, it rarely gets hot enough for it. I have a suede jacket that I occasionally wear.

When I was in Vegas, I bought some Born slip on shoes and they are the most comfortable things I've worn since the pair of Mephisto lace-ups I had back in the mid-90's. What's the most comfy shoe you've ever worn?

Yes, cashmere is the best! Unfortunately, my pocket book can't afford it very often. I only own a couple cashmere sweaters. I actually like chenille sweaters as well -- it's so soft! It can look kinda cheap, though, depending on how it's made. It usually doesn't leave lint in my belly button, though, so that's a plus!

The smug cynicism that pervaded every second of that movie was too distracting for me to really notice anything else. By the time the grand finale came with an overabundance of pebble-like tits and full-on bush taking up each inch of the screen, I was questioning Altman's sanity. He's surely made some dead-on-arrival duds in his career, but he must have been more hopped up than Whitney after a weekend of freebasing with Bobby to think that there was anything remotely noteworthy or interesting in that bore of a movie. The best scene was when Basinger went ape**** after all of the Twiggy clones paraded out onto the catwalk fully nude. I think she summed up the audience's feelings towards the whole affair...and maybe that was the point.

The thing about cashmere for me is I want to buy it as soon as I see it in the retail stores. But, I have found $1,000 sweaters on sale for $50 at Marshalls or TJ Maxx before. So, I usually check there first. In fact, I spent like $200 at TJ Maxx the other day and figured it was like $2,000 retail

I like Chenille blankets - but sweaters out of it are not really my deal.

I tend to agree with you on that, for the most part. I got sick on rum and coke once, and couldn't drink anything with rum in it for the longest time. Heck, I couldn't even drink coke for the longest time after that!

But I do like strawberry dacquiris! The banana ones aren't bad either, as long as they use real bananas. I've had them with "banana flavoring", and they taste nasty!

So, speaking of getting sick on a drink... are there any drinks you're now turned off of after getting sick? Or even foods? I have a friend who can't eat bow tie shaped noodles anymore, because she got sick after eating a dish with them once!

Yeah, I definitely have to find them on sale in order to afford them. I used to buy stuff like that from Overstock.com, but I'm boycotting them now cause they sold me a bad camera, and wouldn't give me a refund or honor my warranty until I got the BBB involved!

I had a Chenile blanket once that I loved. But it had the fringe on it, which my cats liked to play with, and they destroyed it.

So what's your favorite "seasonal" clothing? I love fall and winter clothes, such as sweaters and coats. Which is ironic for me, because I can't stand cold weather. And now that I'm down in Texas, I won't be able to wear them as many months out of the year. Up north, you can wear them about 9 months out of the year!

Well, one time in band camp

Actually, it was like when I was a junior in high school and my friends went to 7-11 and got Big Gulps with Seven up in them and halfway filled. We then poured a HUGE amount of Seagram's Seven in them. After who the hell knows how many, I puked for hours while simultaneously singing the Go Go's (face down the toilet mind you  ) just to piss of my friends who hated them. No more 7 and 7's after that

A video tape exists of this BTW
