2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

[Is it too soon for Stevie to even be considered before some majors in their own right get in?]

2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Nominees Leave Out Many Again

Cleveland, Ohio (AHN) – The nominees for the Class of 2006 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is filled with a lot of hold overs from previous years and virtually ignores a truckload of artists that many critics are shaking their heads over.

J.Geils Band, John Mellencamp, the Patti Smith Group, Chic, Joe Tex, Miles Davis, Cat Stevens, Blondie, the Paul Butterfield Band, the Dave Clark Five and the Sir Douglas Quintet will all have a chance to make it into the hall of fame, located in Cleveland.

This year also marks the eighth chance for Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd gets their seventh chance, and the Sex Pistols and the Stooges all of which are on try number five.

Missing from the nomination list again this year include bands like Rush, Van Halen, Yes, Genesis, ELO, Joan Jett, Def Leppard, Alice Cooper, Heart, Deep Purple, Pat Benatar, and Duran Duran.

Nominees are picked by a 70-member committee of rock 'n' roll historians, journalists and label execs, with ballots then mailed to an international voting body of 700 music industry types for the final decision. The five to seven nominees that receive the most votes will be inducted into the Rock Hall next year.

I don't think Stevie will ever be nominated or inducted as a solo artist... just my opinion

If she is, it won't be for many, many years. She was inducted with Fleetwood Mac, they aren't chomping at the bit to induct her as a solo artist, especially with all of the artists and bands that have been passed over year after year.

Heart? Van Halen?? Pat Benatar?? yeah ok, no, Stevie will not be nominated for the R & R Hall Of Fame anytime soon.. especially if she decides to never record another solo record ever again, which seems to be the way this is going :wavey:

off subject, but...

It's about time Blondie got into the HOF.

They have to be voted for first, but I agree if they do get in. Maybe David Byrne could be coaxed into presenting them.

In a word...

BARF!!!! (This is not anything against the new nominees btw)

I wished the Crock & Blow Hall of Shame would burn completely to the ground or even better be sucked into the black hole of corporate mediocrity that it is...I dont need some f**kin' place to honor artists who have been groundbreaking & memorable.

To hell with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

I know, I was just saying they need to be. They've been overlooked too many times.

I'll put my money on the ghost of Joey Ramone presenting to them before DB.

Personally, I was shocked when he agreed to reform with Tina, Chris, and Jerry for even that one Hall of Fame induction show. Shocked, I tell you. And then they teased us by saying a reunion could happen and years later, nada.

ELIUD 09-20-2005 11:22 AM

Dudes, I'm totally expecting Stevie to get in once she's nominated. Eventhough she didn't make the list her first time out, once she's there I'm sure she'll get in. She is well liked, has worked with so many artists, and is considered an inspiration by many young performers today. And she has contributed well enough as a solo artist to reckon her worthy.

The older he gets, the crazier he gets. Which is saying a lot when you look at how nuts he was when they started out. He's a hell of a musician though.

I don't know how everyone else feels, but I think Sabbath, Cooper, Skynard, Benetar and Van Halen should definetely be inducted into Hall of Fame. I am not a huge fan of any of their music, but they are most deserving of being inducted because of their influence and achievements.

SapphireSister 09-20-2005 12:04 PM

Kind of off topic but Stevie has never even won a Grammy as a solo artist. What a shame . Thoughts?

It is a shame. I think Bella Donna is her only solo work that would have been grammy worthy. She kinda of went down hill from there. (Don't get me wrong, I love everyone of her solo albums!) I just meant from a "number of albums sold" viewpoint.

I read an insane article about him when his last album came out, talking about how he was living as a nomad for a while. Just walking around with a backpack and a tent. I have to find it again, that man is kookoo.

I like them all and think they should be inducted.

That would be a hilarious read. Send it my way if you find it ;)

jadegypsy 09-20-2005 02:50 PM

I thought H*ll was going to have to freeze over before Blondie got nominated, about damn time.

Now Heart and JJett should've been nominated, and I'm sure Heart will eventually get in but JJett well I somehow don't think she is the most loved individual in the rock world, but she deserves to be in there, her and Heart were some of the first girls to pick up a rock-in-roll guitar. But then again politics plays a part.

I remember hearing that Michelle Phillips had to practically move Heaven and Earth to get the Mamas and the Papas in b/c John Phillips had burned to many bridges, can you imagine the HOF without them in it... :(

As for Stevie she'll get her due, btw is Petty in there yet?

ELIUD 09-20-2005 03:05 PM

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers got in last year or the year before that.

So does Stevie meet the requirements to be nominated as a solo artist? I would be shocked if she never recieved at least a nomination. Anyone know the requirements to be considered? She must be inducted!.

Your first record has to be released at least 25 years ago. She is eligible.

yeah, apparently Kim Carnes and Lucinda Williams are more worthy of a "best female rock performance" grammy than Stevie Nicks

sorry, but i don't think so..

ESPECIALLY Lucinda Williams.. "Get Right With God" is not even a rock song.. its a hillbilly hick song... if anyone besides Stevie should have won that grammy in 2002 it should have been PJ Harvey.. at least she's "rock", not "hick"...

Helpful as always, Curtis. Thank you. :xoxo:

Wait so if Bella Donna was released in 1981 than this is the first year she is eligible. If this is only the first year I'm sure she'll receive a nomination in the upcoming years. This was only her first shot.

And Brian: I could never believe that Lucinda Williams beat out Stevie for Planets with that particular song. A travesty I tell you! Was Stevie at the Grammy's that year? I don't remember seeing her but I wasn't a fanatic back then so maybe I missed it. That was the year Ms. Alicia Keys stold the show and won every award possible.

I remember watching that whole damn grammy show and not hearing anything about the award. Then hearing the next morning that she lost, i was so pissed.

Stevie was there... she was actually spoken to by some interviewer after she lost and said something to the effect of "it's an honor just to be nominated.. it means i can now continue writing and working.." or something like that :)

Def Leppard were excellent in concert this year as were Journey and I wish they were in the running for it. Who the bleep@#%* is voting anyway?!! They are really forgetting some great deserving bands....Heart, ELO, Van Halen....all the good stuff that brings me back in time. I bet Stevie will get in there some day but my man Lindsey who I think should be in, will probably never make it if whoever selects and votes has their way :(
So bogus....

Hey, don't be ripping on Lucinda. Have you even heard "Car Wheels On A Gravel Road?" That's one of the most amazing albums EVER! I'll agree that that she's not exactly rock, but she's not exactly country, either. She's one of those "alt-country" artists who walk the line (i.e. Johnny Cash, Wilco, Gram Parsons, etc). BTW, nice ethnic slur.

SteveMacD 09-20-2005 06:23 PM

I think it's odd that guys like Gordon Lightfoot and The Guess Who haven't been nominated, yet. Of course, Traffic was only inducted a few years ago, and they most certainly deserved the nod in 1992.

I love Lucinda, she's one of the greatest. That Grammy was well-deserved, especially considering the vocal Stevie was nominated for wasn't all that good.

wolfontherun 09-20-2005 08:44 PM

Blondie yes! But Pat Benatar? I mean come on. She had some good material in the 80s but has she influenced anyone?

Stevie has influenced many through her music and fashion, her career has spanned 4 decades and she is still able to tour the major venues and not the circuit routes(see pat benatar).

We will hear Landslide and possibly Dreams on the radio for a long time to come, not sure if the same can be said for Hit Me With Your Best Shot?
