Jonas - Cover of "Edge of Seventeen"
I think Stevie would be proud...Jonas' version of "Edge of Seventeen" rocks!
You can hear it at his website: www.jonas-music.com Just make sure you allow for pop ups, as that is how you hear the song. ![]() |
Wow! That is really good.. I love it! Thanks.
|
there was a thread about this a couple months ago... i can't remember who posted it, but they thought it was shameful what Jonas did to "Edge".. i have yet to hear it myself.. but i will now ;)
|
ok, here's my verdict....
the music is great, love the arrangement.. the vocals are so/so.. i like the second verse and chorus much better than the first verse.. overall, i would give it a "B".. |

WELL HELLO! :xoxo: Love it... rbs |
Man, this thing cooks!!! :blob1: :blob2: :blob2:
This is better than the original. |
No thanks. That chorus just makes me  . His voice is about as expressive as David Gest after botox.
Or maybe I'm just biased because I watched the horrid video instead of just listening to it. |
I like it. It's no Bella Donna, but it's cool. And I love how he made it about a girl. Cause a guy singing that song about a guy would make me blush and giggle. :p
|
Thanks so much for posting the link. I am so loving it. He is hot. I think I need to buy the CD now.

Remember when a bunch of fans sued Creed for a refund of their ticket prices because Stapp was drunk and put on a crappy show? |
The song was different and ok,I'm really not a heavy metal rock fan. I've never herd of Jonas until now, I have the mp3, available if anybody needs it.
|
Interesting to make a guitar riff out of the melody for the intro. I like the intro a lot. Work the wah wah pedal. HA HA ! He even throws in a "well " ! The chorus is pure 80's hair metal. I gotta say I like the guitar work in the chorus. But that vocal break - on "17" - it's a squeak. I do like the stripped down bridge.
This guy uses more vocal fx than anybody I have heard lately and it is distracting. The verses sound like they were recorded at completely different times, at different levels, even through different filters. Dude, pick a vocal setting and stick with it. And the ending - thump. Over. Thud. Bad move. This is an interesting curiosity, this song. I won't listen to it much, but it was fun. And maybe Stevie can take the fee and, I don't know...buy a nice piece of jewelry. I'd say new shoes, but Sparky gave up on that one a long time ago. Edit - I also have to say it took more than a handful of nuts to attempt a cover of this song, so I will give the guy credit for that. |

It reminds me of NIN a little. I kind of like the "So with the slow gracefull flow of age" part, and also the "then suddenly there was no one left standing in the hall" part. It's uh, different.
|
I only like some of it. He's trying too hard to make "cool" vocals in the beginning. If he just sang it 'straight' instead of contorting his mouth in to wierd shapes, it could help. Or at least, that's what I hear. I'll have to see the video.
It certainly is an interesting take. Too much stuff going on some of it. If this thing came out last year, why are we hearing about it now? |
Wow! I finally decided to give this a listen and I agree with Alicia--it rocks!! The only part I didn't like is the "something within him" part--he kind of sang "him" creepy!! As to why we are talking about it now....... well I remember it being discussed a while back but I think this is the first time someone actually posted a link to the song to actually hear it. When it comes to Mac/Stevie covers I usually stay away so I didn't go seeking this out to listen...... but since the post was right there I thought--what the heck!! Lazy?? Maybe....... Not enough time in my day--probably!! :o But anyways--I like it!!

I also watched the video instead of just audio. I spit up 2 times during it. What drivel. A bit of a poser...no?

Naw, man, he's hardcore. |
did anyone notice in the video, that at the end when he sings "come away, come away".. that he does that thing with his hands that Stevie does all the time when she does "Edge" live? this Jonas fella must be a huge Stevie fan... now he's even doing her hand motions

Wow! He's trying too hard. Cool Web site though.
|
over produced. obnoxious vocals.
|
So where does one buy the CD? I don't see any link on his web page to do so.
|
wow...it's really busy...there are parts I like tho....the vocal FX are irking me, overall....and the dove is singing: oh, oh , oh...not ooh ooh ooh....maybe he missed the finer points of white winged doves 101....
|
I thought it was pretty damn good. Not that I'd buy it, download it or listen to it again...but the interpretation was original and gives it new life. Plus I think changing the song to a male singing of a female allows the chorus of the song to fit in better. Like he's comparing the girl to the dove...and the sounds she makes when they make love.
Hey suddenly I realize this song is about statuatory rape. |
