Heather Mills McCartney Loses Leg In Row With J Lo's Guards

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY'S amputee wife HEATHER MILLS McCARTNEY lost her prosthetic leg during a violent confrontation with security guards at JENNIFER LOPEZ's New York office.

The incident happened on Tuesday (13SEP05) as the former model-turned animal rights activist attempted to deliver a People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) DVD showing creatures being killed for fur to Lopez, following a demonstration at which the 37-year-old pleaded with fans to boycott the superstar's music, movies and clothes because she uses fur in her fashion range Sweetface.

After striding into the building opposite Manhattan's Bryant Park, accompanied by an entourage of journalists and photographers, McCartney Mills - who lost a leg after being hit by a car in 1993 - was confronted by burley minders who yelled "you have no authority to be here. Get out! Leave the floor immediately!"

In the tussle that ensued, Mills McCartney's prosthetic leg became detached.

She bent down and clutched her knee in pain, before asking to use a bathroom so she could reattach the leg. Guards refused and she was forced to cling onto a photographer as she carried out the humiliating task on a stairwell.

Photographer Richard Corkery tells 25hoursonline.com, "I saw her touch her knee and I could see she was in pain. She limped to the ladies room but it was locked. I found another door open - it lead on to the stairwell. At least she could have a private moment - which is what she needed." .

According to 25hoursonline.com, Lopez's guards continued to verbally attack the group - screaming "Call the cops! Call the cops!!" - until Mills McCartney recovered her composure and was able to leave the building.

Meanwhile husband SIR PAUL McCARTNEY is backing his younger brother against claims he groped a waitress at a party, calling the allegations "ludicrous".

MIKE McCARTNEY, 61, has been charged with sexual assault following the incident in a suburb of the brothers' native Liverpool, England.

But the former BEATLE, 63, is adamant his brother, "A devoted family man," is innocent.

He says, "Mike has respect for people and has earned respect for himself in his professional and private life."

I feel so bad for her. I can't imagine how humiliating that must have been, especially with those goons being so cruel and nasty about it.

Yes, I agree, it sounds like they werent very nice to her to say the least. Oh well, I remember one time hearing this story about J-LO that in London she and her entire posse got into the limo to go like 50 feet from one end of the hotel courtyard to the other. :distress:

J Lo's a heartless bitch. There have been campaigns for months to get her to stop using fur in her clothing line and she won't hear any of it. She even used her "clout" to get Billboard to pull a PETA ad. I won't pay to see any of her movies and I certainly won't buy one of her **** albums.

That is really awful. On the other hand, what a good way to draw attention to your plight.

somebody gave me a rabbit fur coat when i was a kid, i remember i loved it sooooo much, but wouldn't wear it anymore when my father not only told me cute little bunnies died to make this coat, but died horribly i'm sure~ i have never been a fan of J-HO's,i don't think she is a very good actres or singer, & she certainly carries herslef w/ no class :( ~

Hey now - PETA could never have any intentions like that

On edit and because I just cannot resist

Who does HM she is that she can "stride" uninvited into a private office with an entourage apparently immediately after publicly insulting the people in their and with the sole intent of causing trouble. Did she think they would welcome her with open arms because she is someone famous' wife? Moreover, why didn't she just leave when told to leave, which could have avoided the tussle that happened after she was told to leave. Thus, according to the facts presented in this article, HM acted in a way that knowingly put her in situation where she could be thrown out and J-Lo is not at fault for what happened.

I do think she should have been allowed to put her leg back on, but I am sure after the tussle people were really not inclined to be nice to her. This is PETA we are talking about and they are known to use violence to get their point across no matter how genuinely noble their point is.

I'm not fooled by the rocks that she's got, J-lo is a bitch. She's approaching "washed up" status quicker then she can fire an assistant for not opening her water bottle before giving to her.

They torture the animals before they die. The traps that are set to catch them usually don't kill them, only wounding them instead. Then they're put into cages to suffer until these butchers deem it time to skin them. When they do murder them, they either electrocute them, poison them with carbon-monoxide, break their necks, slit their throats, or strangulate them. Unfortunately, a great number of them do not die from any of that and end up being skinned alive. People who wear real fur when they can wear faux fur sicken me.

I tend to agree. Its one thing to demonstrate across the street, thats protected speech. But to agressively enter someones office and berate them and get in their face, what did she expect? Her cause may be worthy, but her methods crossed the line. PETA lost some credibility for me when they started resorting to agressive protests, vandalism and intimidation tactics.
Sorry. not a good way to get people to sympathize with your cause IMO.

That's the whole point, not any of that other predictable stuff you said. It was downright cruel for them to treat her the way she did after her leg fell off. I get that they were pissed off and wanted her out, but christ, that was low.

In any event, Heather Mills McCartney's behavior in no way changes how heartless and disgusting an individual J Lo is for using real fur in her clothing line.

Janet 09-17-2005 11:20 AM

I just don't understand why HM didn't do things in a different manner. It's totally humiliating how that all went down but I just don't get why the woman, with her newfound clout, just didn't go about it differently.

Fur is horrible, I would never wear it. I never touch veal either.

But there are ways to go about protesting it without looking like a crazy madwoman. The story of the leg will be alot bigger than the issue at hand, that J.Lo hates furry little animals.

How are you going to get attention to your cause by just standing outside an office with a sign? You can't, not these days. People drive by those who picket and they snicker. It takes salt, ingenuity, and outrageousness to get attention. I'd be willing to bet that this incident alone got many, many more hits to the PETA website than any picket line protest would, and if that means people are currently reading about the horrific ways animals are treated and possibly changing their minds about their support of such practices, it's a good thing in my eyes.

DrummerDeanna 09-17-2005 02:24 PM

Well I have even less respect for PETA in this story.

Yes it sucks that HEather lost her leg - why did the confrontation get violent though?

She is half to blame in this IMO. Yes they should have let her re-attach it - but emotions were probably high - and PETA people are totally unpredictable - so who knows what people were thinking.

Why J-LO is to blame in this story is beyond me - she wasn't there - she didn't order then to not let HMM put her leg back on

J-Lo is a fun loving gal - she worked to get to where she is and if she wants to wear fur then I say more power to her!

Boycotting probably won't be neccesary for much longer considering the abysmal quality of her recent fims and records. Didn't her last album Afterbirth pretty much sink without a trace?

I totally agree. I actually think both extremes of this debate do the issue no good. Neither PETA nor people like Heather Mills (is that her name - I just blanked).

That's nice. I wonder how you would enjoy being anally electrocuted and then skinned alive just so that people who "worked to get where they are" can wear you about town.

Just yesterday we were discussing Christianity, so how Christian-like is it to torture and brutalize these creatures? Would Jesus approve?

That may be the most ridiculous argument I have ever heard!

God gave us dominion over the animals - believe it or not - animals have been getting killed by man since the dawn of time - for food and for wear.

It's called the "circle of life" as Disney has coined it - we just happen to be at the top of the food chain!

How do you know who supplies J-Lo with her furs? Maybe she gets them from a humane fur dealer

Either way - PETA is such a ridiculous organization - they're radicals plain and simple.

I'm all for animal rights etc- but they go too far.

BombaySapphire3 09-17-2005 04:22 PM

On a lighter note wasn't there a song co-written by Heather's hubby and John Lennon about a furry little animal and a missing leg? Rocky Racoon.

Why brutalize innocent animals when you can easily get synthetic fur apparel? That "God gave us animals for wear" argument is bull****.

I didn't know that being at the top of the food chain keeps us from having a conscience about the way we treat other living creatures.

There is no such thing as a humane dealer. It's an oxymoron. Especially considering that there are no federal regulations whatsoever when it comes to fur farms and how they treat their animals.

How can you be for animal rights when you just said that J Ho worked hard to get where she is, therefore she has the right to use fur? What rights are you advocating for the animals that her company brutally slaughters to cover her enormous ass and line her pockets with?

Ok, but these animals are being TORTURED, just so rich socialites/celebrities/morons can wear fur. Does that not evoke any sympathy from you?

Well, I'm not a PETA member and I don't agree with Heather Mills' tactics at all, and I'm not trying to start an argument with you - I'd just like to ask you something. Alright, I'll take into account your belief that "God gave us dominion over animals" and that humans have used fur as clothing throughout history. BUT, fur is no longer necessary - and for those who want the look and feel of it, synthetic material is available. So my question to you is, why should animals continue to die cruel and violent deaths so they can be made into coats? After all, aren't they also "God's creatures?" Shouldn't they be treated with an amount of respect?

Freeman's 'Unfinished Life' Co-Star Gets Different View of Serious Actor in Scene With Partial Nudity
By The Associated
The Associated Press

Sep. 17, 2005 - Boxers or briefs? Becca Gardner got a backside view of co-star Morgan Freeman for a scene in "An Unfinished Life."

In the new movie directed by Lasse Hallstrom, Freeman plays a ranchman who was mauled by a bear, making him dependent on morphine. Becca's character has to give him an injection.

"I was kind of nervous to see, like, his butt, and I pulled down his pants and he was wearing a thong!" the 15-year-old told The Associated Press in an interview.

"An Unfinished Life" also stars Robert Redford and Jennifer Lopez.

"Everybody else knows her as J.Lo, but I see her as Jennifer," Becca said. "Like they're two different people. She was like a big sister to me. She's so sweet and loving."

When Lopez asked Becca to name her favorite singer, "I told her Stevie Nicks and she said, `I only know one of her songs,' and she tried to sing the song, but she didn't know the words very well, so I had to teach her."

Becca, who was 13 when she won the role, said she was nervous about meeting Redford.

"I'm like, `Hi, Mr. Redford,' and he's like, `You can call me Bob.' I'm like, `OK. You can call me Becca.' I think of him as a stand-in grandpa."

Well - killing animals - that's how you get fur! I'm sure they're not pinning them down and slowly removing their limbs -then holding them up for the animals to see. They're bred for fur - does that make it right? Well not to some.

I, personally, would not wear fur.

I, personally think it is sad at tragic that the animals are killed - but there are bigger fish to fry in my opinion.

I'm not the one torturing the animals - nor is J-Lo...

If someone wants to wear fur or alligator shoes or a Deanna skin stole - then more power to them.

That's terrible, I hope Jennifer Lopez would show some dignity at least apologizing to Heather Mills.

I'm sorry, I just don't understand your position on the issue. I find it convoluted. You say it's tragic, but in the next breath, you essentially say "So what?" It strikes me as uncaring.

J Lo is the one giving her business to these butchers and then selling their hides to make money! There would be no difference if she was the one actually skinning them. Just like people who buy KFC and meat products; they're killing those animals right alongside the actual ones doing the murdering.

Diss, I have a feeling those "fur farms" were operating LONG before JLO came along, and even if she changed her line and went to faux fur, those farms arent going away. Same thing with butchering meat. I dont wear fur (I DO eat meat), but I think if you are going to espouse a cause, it behooves you to act in a credible manner. Otherwise, people write you off as a buch of loonies and you lose support.

No one said fur farms are going away any time soon; the realistic goal is to work towards making fur less of a desired commodity, which would lessen the number of innocent animals being slaughtered to manufacture such despicable apparel. It isn't that hard to comprehend.

The same can be said for the tactics of liberals and Democrats.

I think PETA takes things a bit too far at times, but on the other hand, I'm grateful that they do because it leads to more attention and more exposure to animal rights. At this point, a peaceful protest isn't going to get you anywhere; you need to be loud and obnoxious to get the desired attention. Do you think writing letters to companies are going to stop what they do to animals? I think not. Do you think that standing outside their offices with signs is going to do anything? I think not. They have to be outrageous in order to get their points across.

Of course they are. By giving them your business, you're telling them it's perfectly okay for them boil their chickens alive, cut off their beaks, break their legs, hang them from hooks, pump them so full of drugs that they grow abnormally, and slit their throats while they can still feel everything being done to them. An innocent animal had to die for you to enjoy you artery-clogging filth of a dinner item.

Not a fan of...

J-Ho, HM or PETA (Please Eat The Animals)

I laugh at PETA alot more than before...They came to Oklahoma a year or so ago to offer 20,000 lbs of veggie burgers to the town of Slaughterville in exchange Slaughterville would change their name...

The town unanimously voted no, Why, Because the town was named after a Mr.Slaughter not because of the rumoured reason that PETA stated...

PETA suffered egg on face and went ahead and donated the veggie burgers anyways.

I will say I did see one positive about PETA, Back in June 2002 when the Ford Center opened for business the first show inside was the (lame) Ringling Bros. & Barnum Bailey Circus...They (PETA) had a beautiful woman painted up like a tiger inside a cage to protest the circus' mistreatment of animals (I agree with PETA on that), The news showed this gorgeous lady as they interviewed her inside the cage...

Only thing the news didnt know she was nude and was wearing paint in all the nice strategic places...Man, she had a nice body, Made me want to join PETA just to get her phone # (I dont think the wife would like that much.)
