Shut Us Down - Co-written by Corey Sipper

I wonder if he/she wrote the lyrics? Anyone have any insight as to who this person is?

lbfan 09-13-2005 09:03 PM

Corey Sipper

I googled Corey Sipper and could find very little info except that she is a folk musician who was born on December 23.

AliP 09-13-2005 09:05 PM

Apparently she has her own site www.corysipper.com

I guess that is her. Never heard of her.

lbfan 09-13-2005 09:27 PM

Excerpt from her website

"In 1994 , as a solo artist, I signed a publishing contract with The Burt Bacharach Music Group/Windswept Pacific. I then recorded my second solo album “Swimology” and released it on my own independent label Drumdrum Records. The release of this album brought a frenzy of record label interest and I signed with an independent label called Nu Millenia. I went to Los Angeles to record an album for them with producer Richard Dashut (of Fleetwood Mac "Rumours" fame). Also involved in the project were Fleetwood Mac members Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood. Halfway into the making of my album, the company closed it's doors due to internal problems. Instead of fielding more interest from the record industry, I came home and recorded my third release "Orbiter" with longtime friend and collaborator Bruce Winter as producer."

So I wonder if "Shut Us Down" was written in 1994-1995? Then that would make it unlikely that the song was written about Stevie.

You know it's possible that Corey Sipper wrote the lyrics to this song.

Mari 09-14-2005 05:22 AM

But she must have written them about Stevie, of course

Does Corey copywrite her songs? It is possible she wrote the entire song. It is also possible she wrote half of the chorus, therefore gets credit.

Interesting that she's a co-writer!

She seems to have kind of backed off the music business in the last couple of years, but I've got her Swimology and Orbiter and really like some of her songs. She does write or co-write all of her own material. She was/is(?) good friends with Neale Heywood (FM backup guitarist/co-writer of "Come"), who had worked with her some in the past.

sodascouts 09-14-2005 12:54 PM

I contacted her and she says she wrote the lyrics, and Lindsey modified them for his own purposes. :)

dissention 09-14-2005 02:19 PM

She wrote them about Steeeeeeeeeeeeevieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Wonder why Lindsey didn't just sing the lyrics as he was given? I wonder why he changed some of them? Perhaps to make them more relevant to his life? Nah, must be to fit the movie - yeah, that's it. For the movie.

She didn't happen to say what the original lyrics were? It would be interesting to see how much LB modified them.

No she didn't. I was trying to figure out how to ask her in way that didn't seem odd, lol.

No to make them more poly-interpretable, so the Stevie-connection is readable too. He still knows the legacy will always be a thread through his work.

Tell her you run your own fan site and currently the members are discussing the song. (that's what I tell people anyways, ) Say we're curious about the original lyrics. Maybe she'll like the idea of her name getting spread around a bit  Worth a try :)

I would have thought he changed them to make them more comfortable for him to sing. I don't see why there has to be a Stevie connection. I'm betting the reason was more for practical reasons than emotional, but that's just me.

tuigirl 09-15-2005 12:29 AM

Oooh well done Nancy for getting in touch with this lady
It would be in her best interests to give you the original wording, she might even gain a fan or two, from it and certainly a few more hits on her website...
I'm wondering..how many other lady collaberators has Lindsey been with (not literally, but you know what I mean!) written songs..wasn't Belinda Carlisle one?

sodascouts 09-19-2005 08:24 AM

BTW, I did e-mail Cory again asking what the original lyrics were, but got no reply. I think at this point she thinks I'm pretty weird and lame.
