How do you sing it?

What do you make up in place of Stevie's lyrics? What are your own ad-libs?
All of the Street Angel talk makes me think of "Kick It", and I always sing it "...kick...the wabbit..." envisioning Elmer Fudd... :p

Livia 09-13-2005 04:16 PM

 I have many but I'll have to get back with 'em later...I'm swamped with work!

skcin 09-13-2005 05:29 PM

The main thing that I do is sing live versions even if I'm listening to the studio versions.

Like, the end of Rhiannon I always keep going after the studio "dreams unwind" part ends. And Edge - I always sing "no one really ever heard the phone at all but me!" Things like that.

ontheEdgeof17 09-13-2005 05:31 PM

My favorite one

end of Enchanted: "Whoa Whoa Whoa...I hope your naked"

UndoingTheLaces 09-13-2005 05:41 PM

I know I've posted this before but when I listen to the Fleetwood Mac Live version of Rhiannon I always sing a verse of Maker of Birds during the instrumental part. It fits really well, but you have to know where to start. Heh heh.

SapphireSister 09-13-2005 05:43 PM

I don't necessarily have ad-libs I just have a ton of things that I THINK she is saying when she's actually saying something completely different. She's not the easiest person to understand when she's singing. Let's see I have so many...

-"she was just a witch" instead of "she was just a wish"

-"magic moment" instead of "ivory morning" (pretty much all of The Nightmare my lyrics are completely off)

-"pick up the pieces and grow old" instead of "pick up the pieces and go home"

-"she dances around on the boulevard" instead of "she dances around in a circle"

-"still I get this feeling" instead of "still I carry this feeling" (same with L&L, half the stuff I think she is saying makes no sense whatsoever).

-"I am my own mind" instead of "I have my own life"

-"My eye-make-up is dark and it's killing" instead of "My eye-make-up is dark and it's careless"

-"Take me like the wind chime" instead of "Take me like the wind, child"

-"Long clouds of white" instead of "long nets of white"

-"all the way that I do anytime" instead of "All the way down to Emmiline"

-"Your shinin' on an ocean crashing" instead of "Your shinin' autumn ocean crashing"

-"I would run" instead of "I would cry"

So many more I'll edit later.

"Who in the HELL do you think that you are foolin'?

I always do her litte rap every time I hear Edge:

"But the sea does not change, no it does not change, it does not change, it doesn't!" So cute when she does that!

Also "sings a song, sounds like she's singing it to you!"

LiquidBlue5000 09-13-2005 06:54 PM

i always sing the live version of "Stand Back", even if i'm listening to the studio version.. "so i walked on down the line away from you, well maybe my attention was more than i could do, well, one man, said he would not fa-all, well he asked me for too much.. he said TAKE MEE!" ;)

I'm pretty much like you with all the wrong words. I usually make up better ones, though. But not always. And when I can't begin to make something up, I don't even care. I just sing the sound, whatever it sounds like.
I sing those parts with Edge, too. I try not to, it irritates me, but I can't help it.
I also add lib a lot of live parts.
I like to sing instrument parts that go with a different part of the song, too, and put lyrics in the instrument parts. (for instance, when I'm listening to Talk to Me, during the sax solo, I always sing "wellIcanseethatexpressionwhenthephone rings! etc". It goes with.)

SapphireSister 09-13-2005 07:19 PM

Oh I just realized I do this in Stand Back every time I hear it:

"It's alright, it's alright, IT'S NOT ALRIGHT!"

I think "pick up the pizzas and go home" will remain lodged in my brain forever.

I like to add a word for emphasis on some songs. Bitch is pretty handy. I always sing "You can consume all the beauty in the room, bitch, I know you can, I've seen you do it" and "If I'm wasting my mind bitch, make up your mind"

Bitch, it's the new "well".

And I also amend Bombay to Baby. Baby Sapphires. That always makes me laugh.

strandinthewind 09-13-2005 08:08 PM

Whatever it is - I sing it LOUDLY!!!!!!!! :D

I also tend to repeat the ending vocal a la "just like the white wing dove" dove dove dove oooo baby I said dooooooove

SapphireSister 09-13-2005 08:19 PM

Hand gestures-

Any time I hear "pale shadow of of a woman" I do her shadow outline thing she does with her hands. Also the grabbing, finger wiggling thing she does during "black widow, OH YEAH". I love that. I'd wait for it at every Gold Dust show and if she didn't do it during GDW I'd be mad for a moment.

I also do the snap snap head jerk and sing along to "though we've been [snap snap} out of touch" (like the video) during ICW.

I'm basically all over the place when I listen to Stevie, especially in the car lol. The people next to me at stop lights definitely put the petal to the metal when the light changes and are probably saying "what a nut".

SapphireSister 09-13-2005 08:51 PM

So many of them! I just realized how much I do this.

Well you could be standing in it, stand back YOOOOOOW!!!

During Seven Wonders I always play air drums on this part:

"I'll never live to match the beauty again, the rainbows end" doo doo dooo, dooo doo doo, doo-du-du, BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM (air drums).

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but I believe you're saying you sing the live version and not that you sing different lyrics. But...aren't the live lyrics to edge "no one really ever heard fall at all but me?"

If not, then this put this down as the lyrics that I sing incorrectly because I always sing "fall."

realcowgirl 09-13-2005 10:04 PM

Generally, I tend to sing the album cuts more like they sound live. I always add the " . . .I don't think you do . . ." no matter which Rhiannon I'm listening to.

wait, wait, wait. I just saw this. Did you get that from me? (probably not) Because It's been one of my jokes, for like, a year now..."put "bitch" on the end of a phrase, it automatically makes it funnier and better"
And when I'm singing and messing around with friends, I always insert "bitch" in their songs. Also, of course, by myself with Stevie songs.
That's weird. Seriously, I do that all the time.

I totally didn't get it from you, but I love that you do it too. It fits really well with many Stevie songs : "This could be a whole lotta trouble, bitch, a whole lotta trouble for yoouuuuuuu"

Raeven Skye 09-14-2005 08:07 AM

hehehe...I LOVE these! I also sing the live versions to whatever version I'm listening to, which gets me lots of raised eyebrows...another one I always do is in "Everyday"...instead of .."I close my eyes, it gives me hope.." I sing: "I close my eyes, I smoke some dope..."
I've done it since the first time I heard the song! hehehe

and "bitch" is the new "well"....that's totally getting incorporated :D

OMG - and you have to shake and move your head sort of ghetto on the "sounds like yooooooooou" part - with a dramatic finger point to the audience

That's what I do, too. The main one is Stop Draggin My Heart Around - I add Stevie's extra "stops" in and her "yeah, yeah, yeah."

I also somehow can't sing Destiny Rules anymore as "it appears to me..." - I sing it "it occurs to me" because that's how she sang it in the DR doc. It's like a mind block thing. I think "occurs" sounds prettier.

I also sing all the harmony parts they've ever added live to studio songs (like Never Going Back Again).

I'm sure there are many more - I'll have to start paying attention to my (horrid) singing. :)

I totally agree with those of you who said you sing the various versions of the live moments, I also do the demo versions, sometimes...LOL...to the untrained ear, I would be "mistaken", but to those in the "know"...it is all good...

I do that too, along with always inserting the "could you speak a little louder.." & "and the wind became Craaaaaazehhhhh..." into all versions of Sara.

Highwayman 09-14-2005 05:32 PM

"Take your bottle and your blue morning with you." - Violet and Blue

"To trust in ESP, then women usually are." - Beautiful Child

"Wild and crazy." - that one, stupid, unintelligible line in OMBTRARS that nobody on this planet knows what she is singing, probably not even she herself...

SapphireSister 09-14-2005 05:47 PM

Another one where I sing the live version is Rooms on Fire. I always sing "lyes your real life" instead of "comes your real life". Lyes is so much better.

But there are SO MANY lines in OMBTRARS that are unitelligible. That song definitely wins the award for most unitelligible lyrics. I can't even make up words to sound like what I think she's saying.

xxxmx 09-15-2005 11:32 AM

too funny to pass up:

"diamond (time and) distance never matter" from I Miss You

"sits across the table, a stained (the same) glass table" from Imperial Hotel

these are matt's misheard lyrics that i had to laugh about when i heard him singing them, now i can't hear the real songs any other way (hi, matt :wavey:)

i do the finger outline of "pale shadow of a woman" from the live GDW

i do the beat-the-drum hand dance during Stand Back, along with the arms out to the side shrieking "taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake me hooooome"

i love this, i wish i had more time. alas, computer time at the library is over. :(

[email protected] 09-15-2005 12:01 PM

Imperial Hotel :)

OMG I sing it that way, too...stained glass table...LOL..sounds pretty to me...
