Does Stevie ever leave the house?

The reason I ask is because I see lots of candid pictures of most celebs, but not Stevie. I mean, I have never seen Stevie wielding a Starbucks cup with a bunch of body guards surrounding her... I have never seen any pics of her shopping or out and about on the streets of Hollywood or New York. You know, pictures we see of almost all celebrities. What is the deal? Do the paparazi just not care about taking Stevie's picture? Or does she just not leave her house/hotel room?

I think that's probably the case. She's not a huge pop culture icon the way Jennifer Aniston or Madonna or a lot of movie stars are. Paparazzi are not going to get paid big bucks by the Enquirer for a photo of Stevie sitting at a sidewalk cafe as they might for Cameron Diaz or Jennifer Lopez or Lindsay Lohan. There are plenty of candid shots of Stevie out and about back in the day when FM were at the height of their popularity, but I've only seen a few photos of her from recent years that look like they were taken at an airport or on the street somewhere. Also, though we love her and would know her anywhere, I don't think she's all that recognizeable to the average person these days, especially if she dresses down and and keeps it low key when she's out shopping and stuff. I'm glad she gets her privacy in that respect.

I agree with all of this.

Stevie_Buck 08-30-2005 02:21 AM

That is good that she gets her privacy, but I'm sure she kinda gets down sometimes that no one wants her picture.

I want her picture! lol

I read somewhere (don't quote me on this though) that she doesn't even go to the grocery store.

Stevie is way too faaaabulous for the grocery store .(Yeah, she has said she doesn't do her own grocery shopping or sends people to the store for her in a few interviews. However, there was a Street Angel era interview where she made a comment about going to the store in her gypsy regalia with the boots and all and people being sort of surprised that she is that way in real life. Anyone remember that? Maybe she used to shop. Or was just looking for an example of an "everyday" place to illustrate the point that she really dresses that way offstage too.)

Totally agree.

And I'll add: I know someone who has hung with her, and she told me Stevie is completely anonymous and unrecognizable as "the extra much more fabulous Stevie Nicks" when she is out shopping and stuff. No ribbons and bows and lace, big sunglasses, etc.

lilymoon 08-30-2005 08:13 AM

hi everybody,
here's something interesting. stevie did an interview w/ my local radio dj in the washington dc area (94.7 the arrow) and said her favorite store is "bed, bath & beyond". she said she frequented the one in phoenix and you never know - if you shopped in there you may run into her. :o

reebokandlace 08-30-2005 08:34 AM

...

Didn't she also say she loved to shop at Pier One?

lilymoon 08-30-2005 08:46 AM

know what? she may have and i didn't catch that part. i just remember her and the dj laughing about him "stalking" her in bb&b. that's cool that she likes pier 1 - it's my favorite store.

MACFAN 08-30-2005 09:47 AM

I think it comes down to the fact that Stevie does not let her publicist know every time she visits a hospital or something like that (eg:the recent hospital visit in DC). Publicists will notify the media of their clients whereabouts for photo ops. Stevie is most definately an A list celebrity. However I dont think she socializes all that much or does the movie premeire route. Also she is not a media whore. Someone like Madonna lets her publicist know every time she farts.

Which is what got her in trouble with the IRS a few years back. She claimed her "stage attire" as a tax write-off, but, the IRS countered, saying that she wears her "stage attire" while off-stage, so her "stage wardrobe" cannot be claimed.

skcin 08-30-2005 10:12 AM

I thought I saw a few more recent pics (within the last 5 years or so) of her shopping in Phoenix, but damned if I remember where...

I definitely agree with you TIffany, especially on the dressed down part. I've seen pictures of her without her makeup on, and I have to look twice to make sure its her. It's not that she looks bad or anything, but just that the makeup makes her look different. I also like your pount about the privacy thing. Everybody needs it, especially her :D

Every time she farts? I wonder what that smells like?

I've also heard that she does her shopping and eating out later in the evening, which would make sense to me.

This made me spit out my drink. Only Stevie would wear her get-up off stage and even the IRS knows it. LOL!!! Stevie, girl, you are faaaabulous and way too sexy for your clothes.

I disagree with that... most people younger than 26 don't even know who she is, let alone that she is a female... no, i would say Stevie is more of a "B list" or "C list " celebrity.. at least, in 2005 she is...

Well, she is not really quantifiable in those terms. Like Babs, La Nicks will always be on the geriatric A list.

Well...Barbra Streisand has been and always will be a household name. She's massive. Stevie Nicks...not so much nowadays. I agree with Brian.

LeighB04 08-30-2005 05:15 PM

Stevie is on her very own list.... (okay, as well as on the list with the geriatric rock stars who still get out there and make tons of money by playing stadiums the youngsters can't even fill halfway....)

petep9000 08-31-2005 09:19 PM

I've read an interview with Stevie where she said that she likes Pier One and one time she was there she was picking out perfume bottles and a young kid says to her " You look familiar to me..." so she says back to him "I look familiar to you because I am familiar to you!". I always thought that was a weird thing to say, but SO Stevie! Wouldn't be suprised if that makes it onto an album as a lyric.
Here's a good reason why we don't see paparazzi snaps of Stevie in everyday life shopping or going to Starbucks or going to the spa, etc. Stevie's gone on the record in a zillion interviews that she sleeps late, not waking up until the late afternoon and stays up all night until past dawn. So being a 'nightbird', there's probably less of a chance of catching her doing daytime things. Her assistants can do that stuff for her. I think she's of a different generation anyway. Maybe the Lindsey Lohans, Paris Hiltons, and Olsen Twins of the world today want to be independent and drive their own cars and go buy their own stuff and act like everyone else except be really rich and famous- but I think Stevie is cut from more of the 70's cloth where rock star's bought castles and lived like kings and had entourages that did everything for you. Somehow I don't see Robert Plant or Mick Jagger going to Mcdonald's by themselves and buying a 'Big Mac'. Same goes for Stevie, she's just 'better' than that. I also think she understands the Dietrich/Garbo/Monroe/Kelly glamour mystique quite well, and for that reason is rarely caught in public not looking or behaving like a 'star'.

I'd just love to bump into Stevie at Bed Bath and Beyond while she's got a toilet plunger, scented candles and a waterproof mattress cover in her cart. What a story that would make for The Star Magazine!

I can't imagine being in my late 50's and not ever having driven a car. Well she DID once drive a car. But she ended up careeening down a hill in San Franciso if I recall correctly. And I think if Stevie does "break wind" on occasion, it smells only of Nag Champra. Or perhaps Wheat Thins.

I think they're pictures floating around of Stevie shopping in Phoenix.

On BuckinghamNicks.net and/or sararhiannon.net, for example.

Usually buying toy stuffed animals and dolls! :)

The Paparazzi, I believe, are too busy stalking Britney Spears.

Stevie's way Popular - but not THAT popular!

This is True. I know a girl who worked at the Bed bath and Beyond in Paridise valley, and she said that she saw her in there every now and then! She said that she remembers her buying pillows. I am allways so jealous, because around here in Phoenix, It seems like other people see her, just not me! Not to long ago, my dentist told me (there was gause in my mouth I almost chocked) " Hey I saw that singer you like last night, She was out having dinner with her parents." I also kew a girl who used to be a waitress at one of the nicer restaraunts, and she saw Stevie too. But I do have to agree with whoever posted earlier, that no one really leves the house in Phoenix in august! it is october through april that we live for, but the rest sheesh!!

I happen to remember that the exact quote was,

"That's because I am familiar to you"

I never understood it either.

I THINK maybe what she meant is that there's something about him,

the way he thinks, etc., the way he is "spiritually," that caused him

to vaguely know who she was, even if he couldn't place it.

And, of course, to throw him for a "Stevieloop" and maybe freak

She uh, had a blue Mercedes in the late '70s that she drove -

I believe I've read that she was quite PROUD of it, too!

There's a picture of her with it floating around - buckinghamnicks.net,

maybe.

There's also a white Jeep that was recently auctioned for charity or

on e-Bay or something,

and she also had bought a red Porsche the day after she saw

"Risky Business" - so yeah, she's definitely driven.

But she's said in interviews that she "let her license expire" because

she was too busy touring, etc.

She uhh, also may have been encouraged too. . .

But rumour has it that she's gotten her license back,

and now drives an SUV!

She's probably a much better driver now than she used to be,

I bet.

The thought of Stevie driving an SUV is very, very frightening. Besides that, I don't think a delicate little flower like Stevie would be caught dead in such a mundane and HUGE "masculine" vehicle. She needs one of those little battery powered "Barbie" cars.
