"i'm an insider"

I just bought the Tom Petty album with Insider on it and can't get enough of this song. How heartbreakingly beautiful. Stevie sounds like she's on the verge of tears in her harmony. *swoon*

GateandGarden 08-12-2005 01:39 PM

She does. I've grown to really adore that song. I think it's the best duet she did with him.

Hands down! I think it's her best duet evahhh! Oh wait, the Kenny Loggins duet was super good! JUST KIDDING! I totally hate that song! "Whenever I call you pussy!"

I've only heard the live version of "Insider" and I fell in love with it instantly. It is my favorite Stevie duet period. I love at the end of the love version when Tom goes "Stevie Nicks" and the crowd goes crazy. Her voice is so vulnerable and there is so much emotion between the two of them. I just love her voice in there! Seriously one of the most beautiful songs ever. I'd like to hear the album version if anyone would like to send it to me please PM.

This song got me through a particularly difficult summer. I love it, she's brilliant on it. "I'm the one you outta knooow..."

WizNicks 08-12-2005 02:06 PM

I love both version of that song (I probably like the Pack Up The Plantation-version a little bit more)!
I totally loves when they sing:

I'll bet you're his masterpiece...
I'll bet you're his self-control...
Yeah you'll become his legacy...
His quiet world of white and gold...

Probably the best lyrics of a love song ever!

ELIUD 08-12-2005 02:41 PM

That song was originally intended for Bella Donna, but after Tom wrote it for her in what he felt was her Stevie-style, he decided to keep it for his album. Then he wrote Stop Draggin My Heart Around and gave it to her.

I love it very much in the live album too. Especially the freakish high note at the end that finishes the song. But I really like how you can tell what point in the song she walks out on stage because the audience explodes with screams after a few seconds during the guitar intro.

Um, you do have the live version, right? As great as the song is, it kicks so much ass over the non live version. If you don't have it, I'll send it tonight. Or maybe someone else can send it to you. YOu must hear it. IF you do only one thing this year, hear that live version.

This is really at the top of my STevie vocal performances. I love that song so much, it makes me cry when I listen to it. (the live version). :) Her voice swirls and swoops so much, the harmony is so strange and beautiful and expressive. I really think it's a masterpiece. You might actually die when you hear the live version, Daniel.... :)

skcin 08-12-2005 02:58 PM

Top 10 song for me, without question.

ontheEdgeof17 08-12-2005 02:59 PM

I love this song to pieces. Although, the studio version does nothing for me. It has to be the live take. The live version has more rawness and emotion to it. Gives me chills...

michelle2677 08-12-2005 03:02 PM

could someone send me a live version of this song?? I've only heard the studio and love it to pieces..so I guess live can only be better!

[email protected]

btw-curtis-I love your "you must be this ugly to ride"

Crap! I'll check LimeWire for it. I think I have it but can't remember. I'm sure I have it somewhere. Off I go to dig it up! If anyone wants to send it to me, I would love you forever! [email protected]

I love that line, too. I believe it's in my aol profile. Beautiful.

JazmenFlowers 08-12-2005 04:29 PM

oh how I love this song. Stevie's voice on the live version is what makes me love her. The combination of fragile, yet very strong. It's almost as if her voice could break at any minute, but you know it's not going to. Simply fabulous.

 :xoxo:
the way it moves also reminds me of a bird fluttering erratically in a giant cage....

SuzeQuze 08-12-2005 07:31 PM

Listening now

getting chills. "I'm the broken hearted fool. Who was never quite enough."

pattymarkle 08-13-2005 06:52 PM

I love that song! My favorite duet period. Tom Petty was the second concert I saw back in the 70's. I simply adore him. It is so cool that Stevie loves all the people we love.

Have you guys ever seen the "Making of Gypsy" video? Stevie is jammin' to Mick Jagger singing "Beast of Burden" while they mess with her hair and make-up. Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, such a pretty, pretty, pretty girl.

Sorry for that thread switch, it just popped into my head. :p

:) I absolutly adore that song. I've only heard it on the music video (I suppose that must be the same as the album version). There's really nothing else going on in the video except them, I think it adds to it taking in the facial expressions and all as they sing. There's just something I like about her voice in that one.

You need to get ahold of that live version NOW. Run, don't walk! :D
I like them in that video, too. :woohoo:

Me too!

Nothing short of amazing!

I literally don't get why there has never been a SN/TP tour! It is so obvious and an absolute must! I've already got the tour title: Blonde Ambition 2007 :o .

The video to this is realy nice, one of my favorites too.. Just stevie and tom singing to each other, very simple, but powerful. And you can see her get visibly chocked up during those beautiful lines in the last verse.

I adore this song. Absolutely one of my faves

The very first time I heard Insider was somewhere that it was playing in the background - but I heard Stevie's voice, and little snippets of the song - and I became obsessed with finding it. I'd guess this was 1987 or so, when I was really getting into Stevie and FM. I figured it was called Insider or something like that from the lyrics I heard (and repeated to myself over and over) - and I went and looked it up in this huge tome of recordings that was at my local record store. I very nearly imploded when I found it there. I bought it - and it has been one of my all-time favourites ever since. Never fails to give me chills or break my heart. It is an absolutely perfect song - perfect vocals from both of them.

Wow - in this new era of Double-Bill Tours... you think anyone will try and get Stevie and TOM to tour next summer??? Gold. Mine. It would be un-frikkin-believable. They have done so many great duets over the years... I Will Run To You, Apartment Song, So Sad... And they could sing on each other's other songs... Oh, my God, it would be an incredible show...

I think my spleen would rupture under the pressure of that experience. Who could handle it? Who could hold it together? That would quite possibly be the most amazing concert ever and if they did INSIDER, I think I would just liquify and someone would need to mop me off the floor!

all the same 08-14-2005 10:55 AM

I woke up this morning with this song immediately in my head. I had a cuddling dream (not really a sex dream) last night and now i'm all sad. It's partly because these dreams make me feel disgusting when I wake up alone (don't interpret this as me being pathetic!) but also because "somebody else's arms will wrap around him" sigh...

Serrart 08-14-2005 11:15 AM

It's a beautiful song, I wish there were more performances of it live and the video was truly well done. Simple and effective.

NEVER gonna happen (as much as I would like it to). Not unless Stevie wants to take a huge paycut, which would never happen, either.

Yeah, but we're playing "imagine how amazing it would be if..." ;)
