this is something I'd have to listen to with a fully loaded 38 at my temple with an option to pull the trigger at the instant it became too excruciating.

That would be at the one second mark, my dear.

I'd love to hear The Arcade Fire get their claws on some Stevie songs, personally.

Presumably, she could sing it all...only it would be more note perfect....

I'd orgasm if Emmylou Harris ever picked up her guitar and sang "Landslide".

Dude. I agree. But what about Stowms by emmylou? Ho****.

KarmaContestant 08-05-2005 11:28 PM

I would love to hear Tori Amos sing any of those songs. Most particularly....I think her renditions of After The Glitter Fades and Storms would be incredible.

Any album containing Stevie covers by these singers would be boycotted by me for all of my life. Ugh, I cannot think of anything worse. I'd rather hear an album of Stevie covers by Weird Al.

On a more positive note, I think Beth Gibbons could do an amazing cover of Rock A Little, and Siouxsie Sioux singing Sisters Of The Moon...that would be interesting. How about Johnette Napolitano on Edge of Seventeen? Lastly, Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star) singing Sara or How Still My Love....oooh...I'd like that.

Mmmm...not her style. Could work, though. She could do a kick ass version of "It's Only Love," that's for sure.

Noway, I think she could kick it out. sad, emotful, heartbreaking semi ballad? Yep, I think she could bring something to it. It would be different, but I think it would be great. Think "boulder to birmingham", only, with stowms.... It's only love kind of sucks, so I wouldn't want to hear it....

Dreams - Joni Mitchell
Talk to Me - Melissa Etheridge
Sara - Dave Matthews
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You - Bonnie Raitt

I can't imagine Emmylou singing these lines:

So I try to say
Goodbye my friend
I'd like to leave you with something warm
But never have I been a blue calm sea
I have always been a storm

Doesn't sound like anything she would cover. But, then again, I was shocked when she sang and wrote:

God knows why you don't want me
No one would do the things I do
But to my grave it's gonna haunt me
How I got down on my knees for you

...so you never know.

see, and I totally can imagine her singing that. and your evidence of what she has sang just cements my theory. That's it, next time I talk to Emmylou, I'm suggesting it....

Except I'm not sure she could pull it off with her current voice. :distress: But 10 or 15 years ago she could've kicked ass with it.

I just can't. It sounds like nothing she would sing to me. It's too Stevie-ish, too flowery.

The reason I was so shocked at the lyrics I posted was because they were so blatantly sexual. I have an article somewhere where the interviewer asks her about the sexual connotations and she barely responds, like she wants to move on real quick.

She could give it a shot. I have faith that it would come out good. Would definitely be better than that boy band **** she recorded for her last "Best of" album, crikey.

Fiona Apple - Nothing Ever Changes

I don't think anyone could cover Beauty & The Beast. Nope. Well, maybe Tina Turner.

i know this sounds odd, but cher could really tear up a stevie song i think, like Rhiannon, also Annie Lenox could do great with Edge of 17

pass on a tribute album, Never cared for 'em and never will...So I guess I'll be in the minority on the tribute album idea.

I haven't liked most of the Fleetwood Mac tribute albums, either. Except for "Patron Saints of Pop" -- I think that really captures something essential about Fleetwood Mac.

Haven't listened to my Camper van Beethoven "Tusk" in a few years. I should.
