Like or Dislike: Sistah Huhnay
Hmmmmm. This song has very dated music. But I still like it a lot! The lyrics aren't her most poetic, but it's so quick & upbeat that I just can't help myself. I do like the following lines:
"Nobody's right, baby All the time And a fool never knows what he's leaving behind So take some time to know the real story Cause a soul that's true is your ride to glory Don't let that golden hair get in your way , baby" and "Come back solemn stranger It's your last chance She's almost gone, now And she'll go fast like a jet plane And then fast like a star stream She'll hit you with a fury Whispering the words one more time, baby" Yup, that's right. I like "FAST like a jet plane and then FAST like a star stream" and I don't care who knows it! :D I love the way she says "do you understand the word pleasure" too. And "Sistah! Sistah!" in the background is priceless. Live - I don't know how well this would go over live. Maybe in '86 while she was coked up, but not today. She wouldn't give it the "pow" that it requires, I don't think. OK, peeps. Dig in. Let's see how long it takes someone to say it's about her vagina. ;) |
I love it - I love to dance to it - I love to vacuum the house naked in only Stevie boots while dancing to it
Seriously, I love RAL and think it was, as one reviewer said, a conscious effort to lighten up. I think she took risks with that record and this song is one of them. I thought for awhile it was about heroine, which was the figurative sister - but I now think it is about her brother and her relationship. |
Don't like this one. :distress:
|
I could say lots of reasons why I like it, but for right this second, I'll put the most important one:
It's the only Stevie Nicks song that makes me do that "fast shoulder pop/head swivel/janet jackson/bust a move" dance right when it starts. And that's no small distinction. It definitely helps me make up my mind. I Can't Wait inspires a related dance, but not exactly the same one. :) Ie. - I LOVE SISTAH HONEY! |

I love this freak focking, fun-loving, fist throwing, son of a b#$%^ kinda song. |
I love this song. The first time I heard it, I was like "whoa" and kept replaying it. It'll always be a favorite!

I LOVE this song - it's just so fun to sing along with and dance around to
And no - I don't think she'd sing about a cooter  |

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! cooter |
I think a song with lyrics like that should have cheesy, dated 80s music to go with them. It's pefect in that sense. I have no idea why "Can we still be friends/The answer's always yes" and that whole part is in there, but it all works for me. Well, it all works except for "fast like a jet plane" and "fast like a star stream or whatever the hell she says because it's obvious that she couldn't think of something other than "fast" for the second part so she just repeated it. Anyway, I love it. I like to think it's about vaginas but I suppose not with Stevie and all. It's in my top 20 in terms of her solo material.
|
Okay, let me start by saying that never in 20 years did I think this song had anything to do with vaginas until today. Thanks guys. I don't know that I can ever listen to this song again....'cause when I hear that line...."Don't let that golden hair get in your baby...." I am going to think of totally out-of-control-squirming-out-the-sides-of-a-too-small-bikini cooter hair.
That being said, Stevie wrote this with Les Dudek...and I recall her saying once that she and Les stayed up really late practicing it, and that the neighbors were upset about the volume of the music....but that's really all I remember. |
Love this song! It's so very unlike-Stevie, which makes it a lot of fun. I wouldn't have the confidence playing it while driving with my windows rolled down, but inside my house, yep, it's a keeper.

love love love it!!!!!!!!!! :woohoo:

Teeheehee! You said cooter! |
I love Sister Honey! The 80s-ness of it makes it even better in my book. I love the " And she'll go fast like a jet plane and then fast like a star stream" line.
Then again, I'm one of those people who like ALL of Stevie's 'crappy' songs :D |

Oh come on! No one's heard of the supposed lesbian theme of this song?? |

Sounds like mid-'80s Prince, but I don't mind. A prime guilty pleasure if there ever was any.

Don't you guys remember the America song from 1975, "Sister Golden Hair"? That was one of Stevie's favorite songs.
|
it's a strange thing that happens with the song. I think it is probably the most dated sounding song on RAL, but it's so cool and has this whole F you attitude that I love, so, while I don't love it, I don't skip it.
|
Hate Hate Hate this song.
|
I don't really like this song and I rarely say that about any of Stevie's songs.

don't make me come up there.... to help you..."make up your mind".  |
I like this song for its up beatness, and the funky 80's beat! I seriously think it's about cocaine. "She'll go fast like a jet plane and fast like a star stream" just kinda gives it away.
|
It's catchy and all, but not a favorite. Like most of RAL, it just doesn't work for me.
