Henley at the Heart Benefit

I heard a local radio DJ say this morning that Don has backed out of the benefit in Arizona, then they played a clip of him saying something about having "prior commitments to the Eagles." Has anyone else heard this?

I hope it's not true..I know some of his fans had bought tickets because he was going to be there..we shall see..

Oy vey! I can just see Stevie right now, in her bathrobe, rollers and bunny slippers, frantically looking through her rolodex for some other "friends" to take his place. Up on the wall is a note-to-self that says "Must. Not. Trust. Eagles." She finds Chris Isaak's number under "I," and she begins to dial his number. But she is startled to find herself starting to hum the chorus of Mojo Nixon's "Don Henley Must Die." She looks up at the mirror and a large, evil grin appears as the fluorescent bulbs reflect the sheen of a copious helping of Creme de la Mer smoothed onto her unmade face. "...don't let him get back together with Glenn Frey..."

But I digress.

:waits patiently for HenleyFan to chime in with an explanation:

David 08-04-2005 11:54 AM

Stevie should call Sting & Matchbox 20. I don't know what the former would do, but the latter would come running.

Why does she call the same damn guys every time she does benefits? Or is that sort of like asking Why does that dog sniff around at the fire hydrant?

Ummm, David? Matchbox 20 is on hiatus...or broken up...I don't know which  , but in any case, Rob Thomas is doing a solo thing.

Well those sonsabitches!! How about that!

Okay, how about Steven Delopoulos or Bruce Springsteen & the E-Streeters?

Can you imagine the houha over a Springsteen-Stevie Nicks double bill?

Oh how I would LOVE THAT. Along time ago...before the Wild Heart came out, I read a blurb in Rolling Stone that said Bruce wrote a song called Take it to Heart for Stevie's upcoming solo album. I guess she didn't care for it because I have yet to read about a demo of this song.

SandyMac 08-04-2005 12:57 PM

umm, get Lindsey :)

Stevie opens a box and reaches for the "Don Henley" voodoo doll...
That will show him not to mess with my benefit or tour dates she says....

HenleyFan 08-04-2005 01:30 PM

This sounds really odd and seems like the DJ has gotten some of his wires crossed.

The Eagles aren't doing anything until Sunday when rehearsals start so perhaps he's talking about the CO Springs show which the promoter...not DH cancelled or Don cancelling the second half of the Don/Stevie tour.

I also can't believe Don would wait until the day of the show to back out. He would have known what his Eagles committments were when he booked the date.

I like the get Lindsey idea. :]

I would be shocked if Don pulled out of this benefit show so last minute like this. I cannot wait until tonight to see but I am not sure I believe it right now. If he did, he is back on my list....just one more hurtful thing he has done to Stevie. Sorry Henely fans :distress: I am really hoping this is a DJ screwup. Those dudes never get anything right...but he played a clip?

The clip was very short. Pretty much just the sentence about "previous commitments to the Eagles", so it could have been pulled from anywhere, any time, talking to anyone. After that, the female DJ mentioned about how he and Stevie just went on tour together, and how he cut that tour short, too, etc. I'm really hoping they had some wrong information because it sounds very odd to me, too. :distress:

Reporting from Phoenix.....

Well, outside the Dodge Theater is playing a video advertising the Gold dust show tonight, with special guests V Carlton and Don Henley. It shows footage from the Two Voices Tour. So if this is true, someone needs to tell the venue!

I heard that someone called the venue and they confirmed that in fact Don WILL be there to perform tonight, so who knows....

Wouldn't Don be under contract to do this? I saw that seating in the

Orchestra Pit was almost a thousand dollars!

Some of those people must have been expecting to see The Donald.

Also, I saw the concert at Jones Beach and they really did seem

very comfortable and close together - I just can't believe

he would totally, 100% blow that now. :distress:

But if it's TRUE - w t f is she going to do??? This is SERIOUSLY

last-minute and INCREDIBLY rude of him, if it's true! :blob2:

I just honestly can't believe that he would leave her in the lurch

this way, with something that is SO important to her.

There's just to many flowers for him to cut down, to do something

like that.

"And I can tell you my love for you
will still be strong after the boys of
summer have gone
I never will forget those nights
I wonder if it was a dream
Remember how you made me crazy?
Remember how I made you scream?
Now I don't understand what's happened
to our love,
But baby when I get you back
I'm gonna show you what I'm made of ...
Out on the road today I saw a DEADHEAD sticker
on a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said, Don't
look back. You can never look back.
I thought I knew what love was,
What did I know?
Those days are gone forever
I should just let them go but- . . . ."

"But we SABOTAGE our lives,

and we SABOTAGE our relationships! . . ."

I just don't believe it.

He'd NEVER. . . .

Not to Stevie

HenleyFan 08-04-2005 09:11 PM

We just love how everyone rushes to judge Don based on something someone thinks they heard. Nevermind the fact that Don is a close friend of Stevie's.....he's also a professional. Why would he just up and cancel an appearance the morning of the show? He would never do that unless it was a matter of serious illness or a family emergency. Jeez.

I'm not sure what your upset about. Sure I see a few people making somewhat tacky jokes. But more than anything, I'm seeing a lot of people hoping this was a DJ mistake and really wanting to give Don the benefit of the doubt. I don't think anyone wants to believe that Don would back out of Stevie's show at such a late date. Still this is a Stevie forum, if indeed it turns out he has, it's only natural that you would see some backlash here. Just as I'm sure if Stevie were the primary guests at one of Don's Walden benefits and she backed out the day of the show there would be some backlash on a Henley forum.

HenleyFan 08-04-2005 09:31 PM

The thing that gets us is everyone is acting like this is true....that he's backed out on her. Why is it accepted as fact when the venue says he's goign to be there?? The attitude here makes no sense to us. Instead of saying, gee that DJ sounds like he's got a few fact swrong, most people immediately began putting Don down and talking about what a jerk he is for cancelling on Stevie at the last minute. Huh?? It's not even a confirmed fact, but Don's the asshole.

L&M,

I know much **** has been said on this board about Don in the past, but I just reread the entire thread & nobody called Don an asshole or started blaming him for anything. 2 commented that if it were true, that would be rude of him & everyone else was just lamenting that it would suck if it were true. Several peeps assumed the DJ screwed it up.

I personally like that you're here & appreciate your comments, and I know this board is a bit different than yours in terms of tone & attitude. But please don't be so defensive, at least this time.

HenleyFan 08-04-2005 10:01 PM

Thanks.

Perhaps we were being bit defensive and you're right about things being different. This thing just seemed to grow legs and just the fact that people were saying, "If this is true...." seemed so odd when at the outset it was so absurd.

Hopefully they are on stage now and we'll get to hear lots of details soon.

Yes, I agree!

Has anyone heard anything yet?

What's the REAL deal???

Perhaps we were to quick to judge Stevie's friend, Don.

But if it IS true,

then I propose a TOAST -

May Miss Nicks put Don Henley on a SPIKE,

and cook him into a ROAST! . . . . J/K! :p

PSSSST - - - If he DID back out - wouldn't he be financially liable???

AliceLover 08-04-2005 10:32 PM

Ok its 8:30 there Stevie should be out now right?

WAIT STEVIE IS PLAYING WITH DON HENLEY AT A WALDEN BENEFIT!???

STOP THE PRESSES!!! WHEN IS IT! TELL EVERYBODY YOU KNOW!

ALERT THE MEDIA!!! POST IT ON NICKSFIX!!!

( Orrrrr - - - MAYBE I misunderstood what I saw - maybe I'm jumping

the gun, JUST a wee bit. )

Still - it IS a nice IDEA!

Thinking there might be a moral here but not quite sure what it is....

ELIUD 08-05-2005 09:53 AM

The moral is "don't air out your 'dirty laundry' in magazine interviews and expect rabid fans to forgive and forget, because any thing you do will forever be scrutinized by them on their message boards."
