Radio Rarities!

Over the past 2 days ive heard Whenever I call you Friend in CVS and I heard Gold in a local chinese food place. About a month ago I heard Friend in Sears. This was way after the Christine McVie hype was over. Also Stand Back on the way home from New Hampshire. Just wanted to say I was very happy to hear Gold and Whenever I call you Friend played.

As I heard, Whenever I Call You Friend is on the monthly Jamba Juice compliation, which is played in every shop in America! I actually heard everytime I was there (which was daily)! I also heard about 5 different Stevie/Fleetwood Mac song on the radio every day (mostly Landslide from the Dance), which surprised me, because here (Germany) they play something from Fleetwood Mac every other week (mostly Little Lies)! I think I should move to America!

WildInTheWind 08-02-2005 08:16 PM

I heard Gold on the radio today at work actually! I heard Frozen Love a couple months back......that really shocked me. Even more shocking was the acuostic version of Gold Dust Woman with the If You ever Did Believe at the end. And the most suprising was the "Stevie" version of Imaginary Lover. The guy told the story about it in the end. St. Louis radio has it moments!

Macfanforever 08-02-2005 08:18 PM

I herd Edge on the way to work this morning ,wow what a supprize.

Radio Still Sucks period.....................................

Radio still sucks for Stevie, in my book. like I said on earlier posts, you will hear Stevie on Classic Rock,Oldies,Easylistening stations and Store PA systems as said here and also Musak.Today radio concentrates on sh2t music like RAP Crap.these radio conglomerates like ClearChannel lock it up to keep this sh2t crap playing..

Radio does suck. I only listen to it at work where I have no choice. Radio or no music. So I pick radio. But since I really only listen to the classic rock stations, I hear some cool songs sometimes.

skcin 08-02-2005 08:59 PM

The classic rock station played Peacekeeper yesterday - shocked the hell out of me! I still hear Friend & Thrown Down at stores a lot.

Josh2003 08-03-2005 12:16 AM

I was surprised to hear "Hypnotized" while dining at Red Robin a few weeks ago.

And I always tend to hear some rarer song while shopping at a Giant Eagle. I can remember hearing "Angel", a solo Christine song (can't remember now which one it was...) and just last week, "Magnet and Steel". All at different locations.

Kelly 08-03-2005 05:46 AM

I was just at Dorney Park with the kids last week and I heard Gypsy, Thrown Down, Little Lies and Dreams all over an eight hour period. The first thing I heard was Gypsy, in the waterpark. The husband was all "Kelly!" and pointing up at the sky, indicating the music. (I had already been singing along for a good two minutes) I gotta give him points for trying though.

Oh and I always hear Trouble, Silver Springs and Landslide 97 in CVS.

Livia 08-03-2005 10:06 AM

I heard Edge this morning - I heard Thrown Down in Kohl's a couple weeks ago.

I just heard Zep's Rock and Roll, but it made me smile, thinking of Stevie!

Is Red Robin any good? One just opened near my house, it smells good!

dissention 08-03-2005 10:26 AM

I heard Say You Will and Blondie's Atomic right after each other when I was in Trader Joe's on Saturday.

HejiraNYC 08-03-2005 10:31 AM

On the way back from the Stevie concert in Bristow, VA a month ago I heard Bob Welch's "Ebony Eyes" at the gas station. It wasn't the version with Stevie singing back up, but still... I couldn't help but add my own "Your eyes got me..." Stevie harmony part during the chorus. :p

And there is an outlet mall in Riverhead, NY that always plays some oddball stuff- I've heard "If You Ever Did Believe," "Soul Drifter," and "Trouble" (Lindsey's, not TISL :p ).

bookie29 08-03-2005 01:49 PM

I heard Thrown Down at Home Depot. Of course I had to stop and sing along(to the embarrasment of my friends) :D .

They're kind of like Fridays, Chili's, etc. (not sure if those are regional too). They have a good selection of burgers and endless fries. Not a good place for a diet

BellaSoprano71 08-03-2005 02:51 PM

I was hauled into one of those grotesque Ninety-Nine restaurants about a month ago and I still get the willies just thinking of it. They serve, and I kid you not, Wispride on Wheat Thin crackers for you to munch on while you wait for their crappy food.

SuzeQuze 08-03-2005 02:57 PM

In Maine this weekend I heard I Don't Want to Know and Stand Back one night by the fire.

Sweet, did this make you buy extra stuff due to exuberance?

trackaghost 08-03-2005 03:07 PM

Okay my Stevie radio moments are the best!

Not only does Radio 2, which we listen to in the office every day, play the Mac all the time (one time they seemed to play Stop Draggin' about six times in one week!), but they every so often surprise me. Earlier this year I was talking to someone and I stopped mid-sentence, like "I know this song". I walked over to the radio and it was Nightbird! How cool is that?
About a month ago they played Has Anyone Ever Written Anyone For You? They like John Stewart's Gold and Lindsey's Trouble too, and I've also heard them play Stevie's Silent Night at Christmas.

And they say the Mac isn't as big in the UK!

AliceLover 08-04-2005 03:04 PM

I NEVER heard Thrown Down on the radio at all....ever. Never heard it even when It was released as a single. Only heard Steal Your Heart Away once while I was in the supermarket.

The reason I started this thread was because I think there has been an increase of Stevie/FM on the radio lately. Maybe gearing up for a Fleetwood Mac farewell tour?

gold-dusted 08-04-2005 03:40 PM

The radio station NDR2 (Germany) played Stevie`s song "Talk To Me" at 7:25 pm as I came home from shopping today. Last week they played "Go Your Own Way". I know that Fleetwood Mac and Stevie aren`t that famous over here as in the US but I can say different radio stations do play songs of them regularly...I hear them weekly in any case.

Holy crap. They just played Tom & Stevie's live "Needles & Pins" on 107.7 The Lake.

THAT is shocking! (And awesome!)

Last weekend, one of our local stations was having its usual "Flashback Weekend," and they were playing "Whenever I Call You 'Friend.'"
I was happily surprised when they followed it with "Edge Of Seventeen."
And then REALLY surprised that they followed "Edge" with "Gypsy."

Not that it's rare to hear any of those songs on the radio, I was just surprised that they played all three in a row. Must've been a little "block o' Stevie." :D

They play that here too - only on 107.7 though. I love this station - they play all the popular classic rock artists, but usually not the usual singles/hits you hear on other stations.

Lucky! Stinky Boston stations only play Landslide, Stand Back, Stop Draggin, Edge, You Make Loving Fun, never Goin Back Again, Gypsy.

WelshWitchPMD 10-08-2005 06:45 PM

I hear more Mac as bumper music on Coast to Coast AM then anywhere else.

Wild_Heart03 10-09-2005 02:50 AM

The radio station at my work plays "Gypsy", "Little Lies" and "Edge of Seventeen" a LOT, it certainly makes work much more fun. About a month ago, they even played "If Anyone Falls".... I think I scared the customer I was helping when I let out a yelp of surprise.

krrrby 10-09-2005 04:42 PM

Could be worse...

I heard "Paper Doll" being played at Walgreens when I was picking up my perscription

LiquidBlue5000 10-09-2005 05:22 PM

so i'm listening to "Gold Dust Woman" (from the Dreamer CD) on my way to Trader Joe's before.. i pull in, turn the car off, walk in to the store, and lo and behold, what do i hear? "Gold Dust Woman"... ;)

Nicksluvver 10-09-2005 06:43 PM

I have heard Reconsider Me many times in stores in New york. I wanted Stevie and Don to do it so badly at the Jones Beach show, but they didn't!

skcin 10-19-2005 11:41 AM

I am in love with Sirius Radio more than ever. On our road trip last week, I heard Angel. I actually a double take, thinking I was mistaken. Also, GYOW, GDW, Rhiannon, YMLF, SHN several times each. :D

SapphireSister 10-19-2005 11:54 AM

I heard Gold on the radio last week. I don't know if I've ever heard that song on the radio or if I did back in the day I probably (like a lot of people) didn't realize it was Stevie singing background vocals. I realized it's not such a bad song afterall, it just shouldn't have been included in her box set since it's not even her song or a duet. Poor choice.

rbs3676 10-19-2005 12:01 PM

I'm addicted to satellite radio. SIRIUS, to be exact. There is a channel called BRIDGE that plays a lot of Mac. This past weekend I hear "Angel" and "Why". Gotta love that...

RavenOfRhiannon 10-19-2005 12:44 PM

I heard "Smiling Islands" at a mattress shop once...it's a good thing I was layig down or I would have passed out

Livia 10-20-2005 10:22 AM

Home Depot last night - I was only there for about 20 minutes and I heard both Thrown Down and Talk to Me! I was on the phone w/ my sister-in-law, going, "It's Stevie day at Home Depot!"

To answer your question nearly three months later (sorry!), I ADORE Red Robin. If you go, you have to get the guacamole bacon burger...oh god. I'm in France right now where I couldn't get a decent burger if my life depended on it, and the thought of that burger is making me crazy.
