How was your Red Rocks Experience?

I was at Red Rocks last night, 2nd row, left side. It was just Jessi and I, and the we heard someone from behind say, "Jessi?" It was Sara and Echo from Micks board! How weird! Anyway, there were two extra seats next to us, so we pulled them down to the 2nd with us. I never got one of those notices either? Huh? It was an interseting night. No Lori, no Lindsey, no special guest. I think they started to play Rock and Roll and that was quickly swicthed over to Fall From Grace. Now, I haven't paid any attention to the set lists or anything else about this tour, wanted it all to be a surprise for me. This was also my first solo Stevie show. I noticed she said the "Mick says Stevie this is just one more link in the Chain" thing. Not sure if she always does that? She mentioned the fact that twenty years ago she played Red Rocks and that it was her favorite place. Told us the story of Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You being written because of her trip to Boulder. Rhiannon was the COOLEST version I have ever heard! Fall From Grace ROCKED! Gold Dust Woman was spectacular! She changed the end of that quite a bit to something I have never heard anyway, but I can't remember it now. Edge of 17 started and I flew under the ropes and was one of the first up to the stage, Jessi right behind me. Net to me was the little old lady I had talked to earlier in the evening. She had on this cool Dance shirt, one I had never seen before, and a Stevie Nicks sticker on the front. So I asked her where she got her sticker from and she said it was a backstage pass. She was the doctor that got Stevie to stop smoking all those years ago. She said that everytime Stevie is in town, she sends her several backstage passes. So that was cool to meet her. Anyway, at the end of 17, she came straight over to my side, saw my shirt, got this huge old smile on her face, came right over and grabbed both of my arms and said thank you, and thank you for coming! It was the biggest smile I had ever seen! I gave her one of those Chain shirts last year in Denver. We must have held eachothers arms for what seemed an eternity! She was VERY happy to see the doctor next to me as well! She rushed right on down the line and that was it! It was a GREAT evening! Oh, forgot to mention the numbskull who threw her pillow up at Stevie during Enchanted, missed her by about a foot. Stevie did NOT look to happy. Hello? What is wrong with you! We almost sold out tickets, but I am glad we went. I will never forget it! Unfortunately, we left just before Beauty And The Beast

What's the deal with the frowning face and the question as your subject?

Red Rocks

I had an awesome time at Red Rocks. I'm still a bit groggy this morning, and I'm not up to writing a full review....so a few highlights....

The walk up from the parking lots....easy for me....not so easy for the large hipped women that were with me. :p

Vanessa Carlton was fun. I just may have to buy one of her albums.

My boss was amazed at how beautiful Steve is. Well, duh?!

I was kind of disappointed that the video footage that was played against the rock backdrop didn't show up too well until darkness fell.

Stevie's mic cut out during Rhiannon. Only for about four seconds.

Musical highlights for me: Stand Back, Has Anyone Ever Written, Gold Dust Woman, Edge of Seventeen, Rock & Roll was fun. Stevie's hat and pants, too cool!

The moon was hanging over the sky to my right. That was a nice touch.

My friend Storm fainted after the show, right in front of the concession stand on our way out. She was out for about 20 seconds. Too much wine, the heat, no food, she weighs all of 90 pounds.

My roommate convinced me not to bring the camera. :distress: Oh well.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Leather and Lace shirt that was for sale. I bought that and a cap.

I looked around for Curtis for a bit, but I couldn't find him. I suppose I could have walked up and down his row, but I'm far too polite. Curtis, I hope you had a good time! :)

The great thing about Red Rocks is that there are no ushers, watching your every move and herding you to your seat. People are free to roam around, and enjoy the show. During Gold Dust Woman, I walked up to the stairs and watched Stevie while I smoked a cigarette. That was a nice personal moment for me. All in all, I had a great time.

skcin 07-21-2005 01:13 PM

So everyone thought the show was great except Curtis?!?! Boy, you've got lots of 'splainin' to do when you get back!

skcin 07-21-2005 01:30 PM

Hahaha - good timing - just got a voicemail from him. Basically said that he had a great time & Red Rocks is gorgeous, that Edge was the song of the night & that Stevie brushed her hand against his cheek during handshakes (this may have not been intentional, but who the hell cares!)

Vanessa did come out for R&R. Cory was filming the crowd & Curtis & Tiff got on her footage - not sure if it's Cory's personal thing, or a documentary, or a gift for Stevie or the band?

He said there was buzz throughout the venue before the show about a guest. I guess between the radio station reporting it & rumours spreading like wildfire, many people were expecting a guest, not just us. Oh well, what can you do.

He's driving back, not sure how long that will take. I assume he won't be posting for at least a day or two.

he's DRIVING back???

oh lord, that's a long trip for him... so he flew there and is driving back...
i guess he rented a car while he was there, huh? it's gotta be an expensive car rental though i would guess... worth driving instead of flying?? with these gas prices?? hmmmm

skcin 07-21-2005 02:23 PM

^ I thought he was flying too, but I swear he just told me "I'm driving back now." Maybe he meant to the airport - I guess that makes a bit more sense, huh? Duh.

ShangriLaTroubl 07-21-2005 03:10 PM

So do you actually have to hike up the mountain to get the to venue as the red rocks rocks video portrays? I have always wondered that

Chris

  You sure do. Though I wouldn't call it a 'mountain'. Maybe more like a big hill, made of rocks.

Thay had shuttles as well, but, gah, hiking up to Red rocks is part of the whole experience.

Stairs. Lots and lots of stairs. There's a ramp on the south side. The grade is fairly steep.

estranged4life 07-23-2005 01:00 AM

I think there's more...

Security up front told me that it never sold out. I know there were empty seats in the front row, but they STILL wouldn't let us have them!
