Like or Dislike - Kind of Woman
Next tune to discuss:
Kind of Woman The vocal really does it for me on this one. So haunting. "...you have anoTHUH waiting at home..." and "...she came to YOU, WHEN YOU WERE ALONE..." can still give me chills. "Promised myself a long time ago" touches me too - kind of sad. I like that the music is quiet, lets the vocal really shine. It's slow, yet you have that quick little "tick tick tick" keeping time (cymbal?) which is especially pronounced at the beginning. That piano again - rhythmic, repetitive & mesmerizing. I like the way it's acoustic guitar at first, leading into the crying electric guitar at the instrumental break. If anyone would dance with me  , I would dance to this song all the time. I know nothing of dance - would a waltz work? If not, what dance am I thinking of? Has she ever done this live? I don't believe I have this on any of my boots, but I thought someone mentioned she may have done it once or twice on the 81 tour? I wouldn't think it would be that great live, too slow maybe. But then, so is HSML & I adore that live, so I'm not sure. Discuss. |
I love this song, just as I love all of the songs on 'Bella Donna.' 'Kind Of Woman' has such a haunting melody, and Stevie's voice is even more haunting. I think I heard she wrote this about Lindsey, before Fleetwood Mac...when he was off playing with the Everly Brothers? She was worried about him being gone in the life on the road, while she was at home...
I think she did play this live on the '81 tour, didn't she? I think it's on the boot of the entire show she did for HBO. I wish we could see her performing this one and 'Angel' live ~ I'd love to see it. |
Oh, my God... total love for this song. Another that I heard once and adored. Love the words, love the music. Paula, I also love the sadness of "promised myself a long time ago... knew it would be difficult to let you go... oh, if not at least within the touch of my fingers - it was close to being... in Heaven..." *sigh*
Yup - definitely a desert island pick for me. I could listen to it everyday for the rest of my life. |
I agree - such a great and haunting song. There is an air of sadness to it as well.
I LOVE Kind of Woman  |
Yes, this is a waltz. 3/4 time.
|
I like "Kind of Woman." I think it's one of her best vocals on Bella Donna. Love the lyrics, as well. I'd like to see it done live again.
|
I love Kind of Woman. I think the masters of it are even better.
|
There is a reason that this song and "The Highwayman" were not performed on the White Winged Dove Tour. I'm glad other people like it so much, but I think it is a lesser song.

I didn't like this song when I first heard it but it has grown on me slightly. It's definitely not a favorite but what I do love about it are the lyrics and the haunting quality and the sadness in her voice and her voice in general. I'm just not crazy about the music and BD is not one of my favorite albums.

Another Stevie masterpiece. Bella Donna is filled with them. It would be a great addition to her setlist. Slow songs are great live if they have intensity, and this one has nothing but.

I love this song. It has always been one of my favorites. Especially some of those master reel version. There's one that's scaled down and almost sounds a cappella. Freakin amazing!!!
|
Love. So beautiful. Has my favorite notes. Others have already described why, and I agree with everyone. achingly beautiful.
|
I love this song too. But then I love every song on Belladonna and it's my favorite album of hers.
|
I love this song. At once the vocal is passionate & full of restraint, like she's trying not to fly off the handle. There's a demo I love too, but my favorite is the album version.

I LOVE Kind Of Woman. Hauntingly beautiful.
Unless Paula starts a thread about Desert Angel , there isn't song I won't be praising. :woohoo: |
I hate to say it but I find this song kind of boring. It is not a song I would consider one of my favorites and it is not a song I would consider one of my least favorites. It is just plain an okay song.

It's good. Not in my top 10 favs or anything, but I enjoy it greatly. :)
|
FANTASTIC freaking song. Easily in my top 10 solo songs. The studio version is great but I have to agree with whoever said the masters of the song is even better.
|
Not an all time favorite, but still great. When I first bought BD I used to skip all the non-singles except this one and 'OTR'.

yeah... i guess i shouldn't post before i had my daily iced coffee, eh? |
I really like this one too. I feel, like most of her songs, it is very personal to her. That emotion comes through in the song.
|
Count me in! I like this song, too. A cool haunting melody, with great lyrics. What more could a Stevie fan ask for? :)
LOVE the masters as well! |
LOVE this
This maybe my favorite song from Bella Donna. When I read she wrote this while Lindsey was on tour without her, it broke my heart and made the song so very real to me. I love how she sings like she is in anguish and still puts so much strength into each other. You get a real peak at a real period of time and a her true mindset and it's as good as reading a diary entry IMO. |

I was never a big fan of this one. But over time I've grown to appreciate it. It's not a favourite but the lyrics and singing are great.
