When a Stranger Calls - Remake

Well if anyone else is a fan of this movie I would like to tell you that they are remaking this movie and it should be out early next year. I loved this movie when I first saw it. Even though the middle is a little weak the beginning and ending make up for it. I should also add that they are remaking the sequel (When a Stranger Calls Back) that was made for TV in 93 and I must say it was pretty damn good. Carol Kane was perfect for the original, I wonder if she'll make a candid appearance in the new one?

Any thoughts?

The beginning of that movie is horrifying. I still find it horrifying to this day. I know a lot of people don't care for the middle section with Colleen Dewhurst, but I find it quite disturbing and unsettling.

They're also remaking my beloved Don't Look Now, which they will all burn in hell for. What's next? Videodrome? Halloween? The Bad Seed? Freaks? I mean, c'mon.

DONT LOOK NOW? They are remaking that??

I LOVE that movie. Just bought it a few months ago. Videodrome has caught my intrest but ive heard its more like a soft core porn than anything. Freaks would be an interesting remake IMO.

I actually just got When A Stranger Calls on Netflix and have yet to watch it again. I did see it a long time ago and remember it being pretty scary but I don't remember any details. I'm not big on remakes though so that doesn't really excite me.

I did like how they showed how the killer adapted to the outside world in the middle. Even though its a little slow it is still interesting. My mouth fell to the ground at the end I was NOT expecting it at all. Right after i got it I showed it to all my friends and everyone loved it.

You'll love it. Watch it alone and in the dark!

Sadly, yes. Nothing will ever top the finale of that movie, it was harrowing.

No moreso than Don't Look Now. The scene in Don't Look Now goes on for 15 bloody minutes and it's rumoured that Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland actually had sex while it was being filmed.

Videodrome is great, as are most of Cronenberg's movies. The "stomach vagina" has to be seen to be believed, and it scores extra points for having a nude Debbie Harry. Great plot and James Woods is great.

I agree the end to Don't Look Now is horrifying. I saw the clip of it around halloween when they did like the top 100 scary movies and i said ok i have to see this. GREAT MOVIE!

I know sharon loves it too (trackaghost)

I was just talking about the original the other night. I think the beginning is just about the best premise ever.
I still haven't seen the whole movie. I watched it my first time babysitting as a teenager, & the power went out in the freakin' neighborhood twenty minutes into the film right when she opens the front door to find the large guy standing there. I sat in the dark for 45 minutes. When the power came back on, Colleen Dewhurst was on the screen, and I turned it off. She scared me enough in Ice Castles as it is.

Ack, you saw the end first? That sucks. -_-

The first time I saw it, I was totally blown away by the twist at the end. I never saw it coming, though looking back and putting the pieces together it was pretty obvious. That movie is a masterpiece, I adore it.

I will.
I was in Austin last week & saw Hide & Seek, which sucked, of course, but I'm lamenting that none of my friends here likes horror movies at all. I rent them, but don't see them in the theater unless I'm out of town. So I guess I'll add WASC to the rental list.

Pay attention to everything. The ink that he spills in the beginning, the scene where he sees his wife and the two sisters dressed in black and on a passing boat, etc. It fits perfectly in the end.

The women are very creepy, but I think the entire movie is creepy and disconcerting. By the time the "chase" scene Christie, Sutherland, and the mysterious wee one in the red slicker came, I was exasperated. And the final confrontation killed me. It was so shocking and well-done that it was almost orgasmic.

Add Don't Look Now, too.

Hide and Seek was putrid. DeNiro is a joke these days. A pale imitation of a man who was once one of the greatest actors around. I say they round up him and Cybill Shepherd for a Taxi Driver sequel. :p

You can tell they are giving you hints just by the way they show the scenes and such. I mean thats a giveaway but its hard to piece together.

Have you read the story by Daphne du Maurier? If you can find it at the library, I suggest reading it; it's really good and you won't be able to put it down. The one that I have is in a book with four other stories by her and they're all pretty darn good.

No I have not read the book, but it does have me intrigued. I do have some free time I might go pick it up at the library.

Thanks for the tip!

Seems that Chevy's Vacation wife took off with his balls. He's still reeling.

There was talk of a Halloween remake, but I don't think that will happen until the sequels are finished. Pt. 9 is in the works now! The remake of The Fog; however, will be out this October!

That was Pacino. Another one who has been a pale imitation of himself for years. Everything he does is the same and I'm so tired of his histrionics.

The lady that runs the rooming house cracks me up in that movie, but you're right, it's horrifying. The tension is unbearable right from the start.

If anything needs a remake, it's The Fog. But the first one was bad enough. I read in Entertainment Weekly that it stars Selma Blair and that dude from Smallville. Watch it be PG-13 and fun for the whole family.

This film scared the **** out of me when I first saw it. I was actually babysitting at the time! I think I would have peed my pants if the phone had rang while I was watching it!

It supposedly is going to be PG-13, like The Grudge

I did see Black Christmas and I fell asleep in the middle. I thought it was 'ok'. I hate that English girl who was in it (also in "It")... her voice can drive someone to suicide.

Yes, i keep hearing about Halloween 9. I have all of them on DvD and video and I love all of them (Even part 3). They are really going to have to pull some good stuff out for this one because they have basically killed off all the main, intresting, characters. Who knows maybe Laurie will have powers like her brother?

I am happy they are remaking the Fog thats a personal favorite of mine. It was such a great idea but they didnt portray it as well on the screen as it could have been, so maybe this one will be better? Love the idea of the movie though.

Haha!!!

I could never watch a scary movie if I was in a strange house babysitting. Ive seen way too many horror movies to fall into that trap.

I thought it was crap, and still better than The Ring, which I laughed at even more.

I agree Saw was so much better than the Grudge. Saw actually scared me after the movie was over and I was in the dark trying to sleep. The grudge just provided some cheap thrills that weren't even that good anyway.

I agree! The sequel was awesome. I just saw it a couple weekends ago, i was very into it and I couldn't take my eyes off the screen in the beginning and the end. It was very suspensful. I loved it and I am trying to track down the DVD. My cousin has the video so it must be out somewhere.

Yeah, the Halloween movies have always been favorites of mine. 3 was OK if you don't think of it as part of the series. There are always rumors that character of Laurie will return. JLC said she didn't want to do any more, but she said that after PT. 2 also. Money talks! And really, we never did see her body. Sure she got stabbed in the back and fell about 3 stories, but it's a horror movie, so anything is possible. I have a feeling they will do 10 and then end it, and I think if JLC doesn't come back for this one, they will offer her a ton of money to come back for the last one because most fans of the series want her to be the one to have the final showdown with Michael.

I love The Fog also. I wonder if they were thinking of our own Stevie when they named the character "Stevie Wayne"?
