People that "pop" their collars on their polo shirts

Does this annoy anyone else?

ryan8472 07-13-2005 01:58 AM

Men's fashion is getting too girly... even for me! And I watch soap operas for crying out loud!

estranged4life 07-13-2005 02:05 AM

I am as....

That's just foul.

You hit the nail on the head tho. Fads suck, plain & simple.

darklinensuit 07-13-2005 02:09 AM

I didn't realize guys still did that. I thought that was twenty years ago.
And I havent seen or heard of the women's pants thing.
I do remember the boxers as shorts fad of fifteen years ago.

I hate that too.

When I was in middle school the cool thing was to wear your jeans backwards.

I'm glad to know I am not alone.

I have ended friendships over this "pop the collar" jazz. Quite frankly, I don't want to be seen with people that pop their collar!

It's worse when people wear, like, 3 polo shirts. All with popped collars. Gah!

I'm chatty tonight.

People like that deserve whatever **** they recieve about wearing so many shirts.

Nothing wrong with being chatty.

diamondsnake 07-13-2005 02:18 AM

I was at the mall the other day and the guy at the frozen yogurt shop had his TCBY uniform on with the collar popped!

xdreamsunwindx 07-13-2005 02:19 AM

I used to do that when I went to a school where you had to wear collared shirts. At first, I'd tuck the collar underneath the shirt, like, roll it under. I'd get yelled at for it, then I'd pull the collar up as high as humanly possible just to spite them. I mainly did it to piss people off.

I always look like a vampire. I didn't even dress up for Halloween this year and just because I was wearing a black shirt people just assumed I was a vampire! I guess that is what I get for not going out in the sun!

Why the hell would a person prefer to unzip his ass.

DrummerDeanna 07-13-2005 09:31 AM

Ah the popped collar - yet another fashion trend that did not need to make a comeback...there was this dude working here who used to do that - he's since moved on - and I no longer have to look at his stupid collared shirts.

---And yes, there was a horrid trend of wearing pants backwards - I never liked that one- wasn't it started by that horrid little rap duo Cris/Cros or something??

Then there was the whole one side of the overalls un done

Um - four different colored pairs of socks...with high tops and weird taper-folded jeans :p

skcin 07-13-2005 10:03 AM

I was JUST going to post about the horror that was folded jeans, Deanna. What were we thinking? Did you pin them, or just tuck & fold?

hayley 07-13-2005 10:06 AM

I realized awhile back that what was intense dislike for Napoleon Dynamite became complete, all-encompassing hatred because of the audience at the theater when I saw it. I go to a movie theater that is in a more upscale suburb, and the entire theater was filled with smarmy little teenage ****s with their collars popped. *stab*

I just think it looks so smarmy and ridiculous. It's like they're aspiring to be James Spader in Pretty in Pink or something. It's laaaaaame.

Hee. Kriss Kross and backwards pants. I missed the bus (uhhh), I missed the bus, and that is somethin' I will nevah evah do again. My brother's favorite album at the time.

 I think there's another evah in there. I used to work for Sears in the juniors' department and we got music videos every month to play there and that song was on one. Damn it would stick in my head! I didn't think anyone else knew that song!

My brother always wore his collars up, in junior high. That was a long time ago. He was a punk and he liked it that way. I think his 7th grade pic is him in a pink shirt with the collar up, a mullet, and a smirk. Exactly as it should have been in 1986!

My calves are so thin I always had to pin my pants or they wouldn't stay pegged. I forgot about the multiple socks. You had to have high tops too. WTF were we thinking? Blech.

Oh yeah, and we'd wear them with those long ass shirts with... shoulder pads! Oh the horror.

Well I was a little behind - I didn't even do the folds until the trend was nearly on the way out -and no, I never pinned them - I was a purist - just the fold lol...

If I were wearing pants right now I'd totally try and do it lol-just for nostalgia sake - I wouldn't keep them that way - but I'm wearing a skirt....:p

I used to love to peg my jeans. I was so good at it I didn't need to pin them. They would just stay that way all day.

As for the original topic, I don't really like to turn up my collar but I do every once in awhile if I'm outside for a long time and I'm trying to keep the sun off my neck.

darklinensuit 07-13-2005 10:52 AM

Another one I remember from the late '80s is women pushing their white socks down to their ankles. Not pulled up or rolled down like in the 70s, but pushed down to look semi-slovenly. I always thought it looked dumb.

WildInTheWind 07-13-2005 11:04 AM

My little brother (he's 16) pops his collar on his polo shirts (preferable the pink ones...of course!) and it drives me insane! I always tell him to fix his shirt, like it's like that on accident. That pisses him off. It just looks so stupid.

dissention 07-13-2005 01:49 PM

Nah. More power to 'em. Polo shirts are ass, anyway.

I still have guys that buy white, tapered, Levi 501s at the clothing store I work at. One man said he likes his old ones better and his girlfriend suggested he cut them off and make them shorts.

What is the world coming to. :distress: :distress:

His girlfriend probably wears acid-washed Jordache jeans to complement him.

Whoa! Hold up  ! Jordache are meant to be worn with their natural dark rinse. Leave the acid to Lee, please.

She did have some very big and interesting porch bangs to compliment her very tight spiral perm.

OY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What was he thinking????? Ann Miller is not a gay icon???

Yeah, all those jocks at the sports bar get into to fist fights over who's cooler- Ann Miller, June Allyson, or Judy Garland. That's the ticket. More like Richard Simmons, Peter Allen and Rip Taylor getting into a slapfest with nails scratching and purses flying.....

The fact that he had all three in his sig, was almost too much. It's like he was making fun of having gay icons, at that point, it was so many.

Josh2003 07-13-2005 03:52 PM

Meh...it depends on what I'm wearing. Certain shirts, I'll pop the collar...others I won't. Guess it also depends on what kind of mood I'm in.

irishgrl 07-13-2005 06:13 PM

3 pages of bad fashion trends, and I still dont know what a "popped" collar is...is it just a collar that you keep up? Ive never heard that expression 'popped collar'
interesting...
