Cross Betweens
Some artists seem to combine interesting elements of others.
For example: Stevie Nicks reminds me of a cross between Loreena McKennit and Janis Joplin. Debbie Harry reminds me of a cross between Nancy Sinatra and Pat Benatar. I'm trying to limit each to two. And I'm trying to keep it relatively serious - too easy to say things like Britney reminds me of diarrhea & Debbie Gibson. Additions? - Jake |
Ok....
Brandon Flowers reminds me of a cross between Simon Le Bon and Elton John. And for good measure... dissention reminds me of a cross between Bea Arthur and Janice Dickinson. |

Don't know the killers. I did meet Simon years ago at that same job where Sting ripped me off. Simon was decent. And his credit card did say Simon le Bon. I remember the l was lowercase. - Jake |

Let's see...
Dream Theater-Musical combination of the progressiveness of Yes & the heaviness of Metallica (Before Metallica sold-the-f**k-out)
Pop Music-A combination of a smelly/dirty filled to capacity litter box & lip-syncing "never-was'" lemmings like Ass-leak Simple-ton |

Lynard Skynard = Metallica + Merle Haggard
(I'm cheating....I actually heard the Van Zandts recently on the radio say this.) I like Metallica more now than ever. But then I'm not a metal effecinado... I just enjoy music on pure and simple layman terms. I like how the music has 'grown up'...as have I. The depth of the lyrics have always been what appealed to me...and the 'meaning behind it'...as you might guess. ;) While I still appreciate all the old, I couldn't become interested in it today in my late thirties were it to be newly released. I don't still have that particular sort of 'angst'. I have a different sort of angst now, such as turmoil, rather than rebellion. I don't know if that makes sense to anyone, but I feel they've grown and evolved in a similar manner...and that's my little Metallica love speal. Sorry. Kelly :) |

Gwen Stefani = Debbie Harry (quirky, new wave-y) meets Marilyn Monroe (classic beauty)
Shirley Manson = Chrissie Hynde meets Patti Smith Debbie Harry = Ronnie Spector meets Grace Kelly plus Joey Ramone. Dude, seriously, listen to Blondie's early stuff. You'd agree. Chrissie Hynde = Iggy Pop (ballsy) meets Ray Davies (prolific writer, yet kinda weird) meets Patti Smith (angstier than all hell) Exene Cervenka = Siouxsie Sioux meets Penelope Houston with a little Bob Dylan essence in the lyrics and vocals |

You get flamed for *admitting* your opinion?? Isn't that kind of crazy? I don't understand exactly why everyone doesn't like them now...outside the napster thing...but a lot of people don't and they are certainly entitled to their opinions. I've never had anyone 'flame' me...but then I never wander off FM territory, and I think the only one I ever even discussed it with was Brian on another board, and he was VERY nice to me and all my musical/technicalogical ignorance! :xoxo: I'm sorry you didn't have as nice an experience. I even like St. Anger. Should I admit that I haven't ever even evaluated the drumming....and I have listened to it thousands of times.... Kelly :) |

i see what you mean... though, not for anything, it is quite obvious Loreena McKennit copied Stevie's look in a big way.. |

I will give Metallica credit, St.Anger was a step in the right direction, (Excluding the production...Dudes need to can Bob (C)Rock as soon as possible), But it remains to be seen if they can release an album that recaptures the elements that made 'em great in the first place (Dave Mustaine did it with Megadeth's "The System Has Failed" disc) |
