Weird Songs That Climbed The Charts

What are some weird songs that did well on radio?

Mr. Roboto comes to my mind right away.
Also Yellow Submarine and Rapture

Laurie Anderson's "O Superman". Don't know if it's still played on the radio these days, but at least it was a sizeable hit in the UK.

Mageboy25 07-11-2005 05:50 AM

Big Love LOL

Justify My Love, Madonna-duh

GODDESS6 07-11-2005 06:37 AM

"Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen", by Mary Schmich~

Wild_Heart03 07-11-2005 06:53 AM

It's not weird so much as ANNOYING, but "Don't Worry Be Happy" by Bobby McFerrin.

trackaghost 07-11-2005 07:30 AM

Tusk :)
I think it reached number 2 in the UK

GardenStateGirlie 07-11-2005 07:41 AM

Corey Heart - Sunglasses At Night
Afroman - Because I Got High

GateandGarden 07-11-2005 07:56 AM

"The Thong Song"

GardenStateGirlie 07-11-2005 08:03 AM

I forgot about the 90s song New Age Girl (Mary Moon) by Dead Eye Dick.

dissention 07-11-2005 08:11 AM

"Informer" by Snow
And of course, the "Macarena"

Informer!! My mates and I always used to sing this (or try to sing this) back in grade 4. I heard it again more recently and didn't understand what we had liked so much about it. :]

Bizarre 'song' that one. Saw the video clip on TV one day.

Here's my entry - an Australian song from this year called 'Ooh Aah'. It is truly the worst song ever, and there was even a big petition to get it taken off the air. It kept getting played on some stations simply becuase the artist, Tamara Jaber, is the girlfriend of one of the radio people, or something like that. Either way, download it and have a listen - and a laugh!

Some of the 'lyrics':

Boys are rotten made outta cotton
Girlz are sexy made outta pepsi
Boys are rotten made outta cotton
Girlz are sexy made outta pepsi

Ooh ahh i lost my bra
I left it in my boyfriend's car
Why did i leave it there
Because i needed to get some air
Ooh ahh i lost my bra
I left it in my boyfriend's car
Broom broom and there he goes
Oops there go my pantyhose

Oh no. I meant the original. Anything in which the person says "Baby move your butt...butt, butt" qualifies as weird. Pretty lazy songwriting. And I don't like thongs too much.

And who'd want their "dumps" compared to a truck, anyway?

disco duck.
funky worm.
electric avenue. (I hate that one)
afternoon delight. (I hate that one too)

I did a flag routine to that song. The worst was when we had to stop and do the robot. The whole school started screaming and going nuts at that point. Not sure if that was good or not.

I couldn't stand that guy AT ALL in those days. To the point where I'd change the station & not go back for days.

It used to freak me out. That Kilroy part.

You reminded me, I had a neighbor who used to sing that annoying & weird Lollipop song.

- Jake

"MacArthur Park," by Richard Harris (yep, the actor), and later covered by Donna Summer.

Someone left the cake out in the rain, indeed.

darklinensuit 07-11-2005 07:06 PM

That I'm Henry The Eighth I Am song. Now I think of Ghost when I hear it.

- Jake

DrummerDeanna 07-11-2005 07:10 PM
