I am so excited I got a new car today!!

After having the same car for 12 years (I left the car in AL when I moved to NYC for 5 and no longer needed it but have since resumed driving it) I finally got a new acura today. Just thought I would share this, because I am so excited.

Aw, lucky girl! Well, maybe not--I'm sure you worked very hard for it, and you certainly had your old one for long enough!

I want a new car, LOL. But I think I need to keep my current one for a few more years. It's got about 92,000 miles on it right now. My little Chevy Prism, . And I just took it for a vehicle emissions test today, and it failed. :distress: So it looks like I'll be spending a little moolah on it in the very near future.

My car failed 3 times! I finally did get a new sticker this May but trust me it was a chore. I still need a new one at some point but it is so nice to have one that is paid for.

Good luck with the new car, Stephanie!

Congrats...

on yer new car, I like any of the metal-flake colors that are available.

If/when we get some of our medical bills paid off and neither of us 'kick the bucket' (Knock on wood) we are planning on purchasing either a Subaru 'Baja' (aka Brat) or a Pontiac 'Vibe'. regardless it will be Deb's car and I will continue to add more miles on my '96 Nissan Sentra GXE (Almost to 300,000 miles).

If you are seriously considering the Vibe, take a major test-drive first. I've had three of them as rentals recently (#@$&ing Hertz) and I think they might just be the worst thing I've ever driven.

Dangerously underpowered, uncomfortable, awkwardly placed controls, poor suspension. Much smaller on the inside than it looks - very cramped. And the rentals, all with under 10,000 miles, were loaded with squeaks, rattles and clunks. On two of them, both red, the paint was flaking off.

Maybe it's your dream car, and maybe you're familiar with it and love it, great! Don't let me stop you. But if you've never driven one but think it looks cool, beware!

I travel 6 days a week and rent more than 100 cars a year and I've seen them all - cars, vans, SUVs, trucks - and most of what's out there is pretty good. I haven't been in the Baja, but I owned a Brat years ago and liked it. All the other Subarus I've rented have been excellent.

BTW, I'm also a fan of the metallic colors. Last week I bought my wife a Toyota RAV4 in silver. She loves it.

Congrats on your new car, Stephanie! I like the color, too.

I'm looking into a Jeep Liberty or Hyundai Santa Fe; 2003 or 4. Any experience with them?

Congrats, Stephanie! :woohoo:

I like them both. We looked at them before we bought the RAV4, as well as the Kia version (I already forgot what it's called - old age will do that), which is pretty much the same as the Hyundai. The Santa Fe/Kia Thingy was our second choice. That Hyundai/Kia warranty is a pretty strong incentive.

I know a lot of people with the Liberty, and they all like it so far. I've owned both a Cherokee and a CJ-7 and never had any trouble with Jeeps. The Liberty was out of the running for us because they made us a really crappy offer on our trade. The Toyota dealer made a fantastic offer, so that's why we got the RAV4.

Thanks, good to know. I'll be selling my car on my own, so no trade in worries for me. I'm leaning toward Jeep because it's American & it's more off-roady. The Hyundai's warranty keeps pulling me towards it, though.

Wow. Mine failed twice then passed after $1,000 in repairs.

I would LOVE a new car. And like you, I also LOVE having the car paid for. Especially parking on the street. You should see how foul my new paint job looks. :distress:

Whichever one you go for, you'll be happy. In snowy Buffalo, like here in snowy Boston, 4WD is a safety feature, not a frivolous option, so moving up to an SUV is a good choice.

Uh-oh! My parents just bought a Pontiac Vibe--the SUV-type one. (To me it looks like a cross between a station wagon and SUV). Seems fine to me, but I've only been a passenger in one and I haven't been in it much. I hope it doesn't turn out to be a lemon!
