Some interesting things about Kauai. It is a sloooooooooow paced lifestyle that is for sure. Everyone is really laid back. There is one main road that is a horseshoe around the island. The Napali Coast on the NW side of the island is impassable, so the main road does not connect. Most of the main road is a two-laner and speed limits range from 25 to 35 miles per hour. Geoffrey and I rented a convertible Mustang and this native Angeleno was ripping his hair out from all the grandma driving out there. After awhile, you just get used to it.

There is no night life to speak of on Kauai. However, if you like the outdoors I highly recommend it. Kayaking, snorkeling, scuba, horseback riding, ATV, helicopter flights, zodiac boat tours, catamaran boat tours, surfing- all that stuff. Hanalei bay on the North Coast of the island is, for me, the most beautiful spot on the island. The town is very sleepy and remote with a narrow, snaky highway that narrows to one lane at many spots. Kauai is the wettest spot on Earth and it shows. Greenery is everywhere. All in all, it is a very relaxing place to vacation- however, I have to say I was glad to get home.

My dogs are long-haired chihuahuas. They are very well-tempered animals. They are not "yappy" dogs- they behave more like larger breeds than, say, Pomeranians. My youngest dog, Bubbles, has a shorter coat (her long hair didn't really grow in), but her hair feels like velvet because, while short, it still has the "long-hair" consistency to it.

Chihuahuas are extremely intelligent. They can identify and "know" personalities. They are attracted to people just like humans are. A friend of mine met Bubbles for the first time and did the stupid barking thing at her. She has never liked him since. Whenever he comes over, no matter how long it's been since his last visit- she always barks at him and runs to a defensible position. My other two dogs love him, but Bubbles? Feh. Since I only turn my phone on to receive deliveries or let in visitors, whenever the phone rings they know that means that they get to go downstairs or see someone. They know the differences in what day it is. On workdays, they know that we have to leave. On weekends, Killah will try to wake me up because she knows that I give them treats in the mornings on Saturday and Sunday.

They are wonderful pets who give tons of unconditional love. :D

Great pics!! I want to go to Kauai someday! In January, I went to Oahu, Maui, and then the big island (as they call it) of Hawaii. Next time I want to see Kauai!! Maybe Molokai and Lanai, too. Yes, I now know all the names of the islands of Hawaii.

I love your doggie pics, too. I have a short haired chocolate dachshund. Love her to pieces. Great small dogs and they barely shed.

Yes, that's Bunker Hill (downtown LA). The building that I live in is mid-slope at the base of the Santa Monica mountains, so I have a pretty good perched view of the city.

SuzeQuze 07-06-2005 12:19 PM

This is absolutely adorable

as are the rest of your pet photos. Oh I love them! That photo with the rainbow is amazing as are the rest of the landscapes. I want to be in Hawaii right now!

The only thing better would be Hawaii with your doggies. :D

That is my favorite picture of her ever. Elphie is the sweetest honey bunny. We call her Lickie, cuz she likes to give kisses.

To give you perspective, that half a Nylabone that she's holding is about 1 1/4" long.
