What Does The Future Hold?

The recent articles got me to thinking about what may be in store for Stevie and the other members of FM. It would be very exciting of course if Stevie did see the Rhiannon project to reality. Beyond that she has spoken of a FM tour in '07. It goes without saying that what I most want is NEW MUSIC!
But this movie talk got me to thinking how the individual members of FM might transition into other genres while remaining in the public eye.

I can see Lindsey producing young artist and working on musical scores for movies. Stevie perhaps writing that BOOK or maybe even writing fiction. I could see her nurturing young talent also. Mick hmmm...let me think...I could see him ummmm Celebrity golf? Buying swamp land in Nevada? j/k I always thought Mick would be a good promoter as long as he wasn't allowed to touch any money. John well I think he would spend his days on his boat like a proper retiree.

Stevie has plenty of outside interests that could culminate into anything from a photographic journal of her career to a furniture line to an art exposition.
I actually think that retirement talk is a tad premature. Like Stevie said, I think there will always be a Fleetwood Mac in some form, but it is interesting to ponder what form it will take.

lagringader&r 07-02-2005 03:52 AM

Interesting question. I think between Stevie's solo tours, her movie and her upcoming projects with FM (whatever those might be) she's going to stay really busy. I don't think she can stay at home and knit. She's also talked about writing childrens books, so I think that's something. I think Lindsey might finish his solo cd sometime in the next decade and maybe tour for that. Then, reunite with FM for that project Stevie's talking about. Then, who knows. I doubt he'd do another solo cd after this one. Mick? Hmm. Mick has a band, too. Otherwise, I think he'll find other projects that are music related to get involved with. He was involved with that thing that helped with sound damage at concerts. John, I think will retire. I think if he's not with FM or they're not doing anything, he's happy just being on his boat or spending time with his family. It's strange in a way because they all seem pretty close-knit, but when they finish an album and a tour, they all do their own things for a few years before they hook back up again. I know Mick and Stevie spend time together, but I wonder if John and Lindsey ever miss the connection?

blinker12 07-02-2005 05:09 AM

The pessimist in me: Another Fleetwood Mac tour in 2007, without a new album. No Rhiannon project.

The optimist: The Rhiannon project, then the Fleetwood Mac tour in 2007.

Even the most hopeless optimist in me doesn't think Fleetwood Mac will release anything new by 2007. Lindsey Buckingham? Finish a project in a year and a half?

I'm willing to bet that John and Mick are in constant contact. I don't mean everyday but I think their friendship goes far beyond the music. If I had to pick I would think it's Lindsey who might remain "out of the loop" given his history of being reclusive but I hope not as much as before. I'm willing to bet, Lindsey has more contact than in days gone by. Just because all the ugliness is over, and I think they are all truely friends. Given the fact that Cory is working with Stevie and also that Stevie has mentioned Darryl (Lindseys sister) as a close friend, I would think Stevie and Lindsey at least run the in same circles (cycles...whatever :D )
I would really like to see Lindsey release that solo album but at this point I'm loosing hope. :distress: I mean one little comment about his album and then no news for months. sheesh :(

Back to the orginal question, I just don't think Stevie or any other member of the band could just sit around playing bridge. It wouldn't be long before her creative side would be rearing it's head we have some kind of up coming project to look forward to.

I would like to see a Stevie solo album before a new FM album, but that doesn't look too likely at this point. Stevie, to me, always seemed more reserved when she's with FM, both on record and on stage. I'm pretty sure it's the Lindsey influence. Case in point: that black, button up sweater he made her wear. I really hated that top!! :distress:

THE LIBRARIAN STEVIE EEEEE!!!! GATS !!!! I hated that too...I'll bet she did too.

i think the most we can hope for is one more album.

that's gonna be it.

You make it sound like Lindsey is a purely negative influence on Stevie. She was hardly demure on the Dance tour...during SYW it was more than Lindsey holding her down. On the record she was quite bold. Further, how could he have possibly "made her wear" the cardigan? Asking her if they can go casual is not the same as physically force dressing her.

The thread...new Mac tour in 2007 without an album. LB will begin to produce younger artists after he is done with Stevie's Rhiannon songs. Stevie...no new solo album but gigs several times a year ala Vegas. She will continue writing perhaps putting out her coffee table book and doing the occassional soundtrack. There are tons of ways she can allow her creative juices to thrive that do not involve albums and extensive touring. She obviously plans on staying in LA longterm now but I do not think that has anything to do with her planning another album. I see her scaling back considerably......
Mick..don't care.
John...fishing, smoking and boating.

I just can't see them (FM) touring in 2007 with or without a new album  Obviously I hope I'm wrong and if they tour without new material then I really hope they drag out a whole bunch of songs they have never done or haven't done for a long while.

I think the chance of a solo album from Stevie is more likely. But what the hell do I know?

They toured for Rumours 20th without a new album and I think they will for the 30th. They could never get an album done in a year and Stevie just said tour/FM/2007. Stevie is alos touring right now without a new album. She has not mentioned one either and Lori pretty much said there was not one planned. I see the tour in 2007 being completely about a farewell...celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of Rumours ...a "full circle" kind of goodbye...I don't think it would be about promoting a new album for them.

I didn't mean "make her wear" in a literal sense. Of course, Lindsey didn't force her to wear it but she wore it because of him. My point is simply that he continues to have a lot of influence on Stevie, including what she wears. I don't think it's any of his business what she wears. Her clothes are part of her mystique. And I assume you're referring to SYW as the record she was "bold" on? I'd hardly call her songs bold. I love a few of them but her vocals are anything but bold.

New CD?

Does anyone know whatever happened to the "new" Best Of Stevie CD that was supposed to come out in March, or Spring sometime? Is it shelved for good, or? Are there any new songs / CDs rumoured to be coming to us?

Hope everyone is having a great Holiday weekend!

Barbara

Once she wraps up the Gold Dust tour I think she will start working on a new solo record or she will start working on a new Fleetwood Mac project. I don't see why everyone thinks this is the end of their career and no new music is in store...

Were people this pessimistic after the Dance?

Christine?

I noticed no one has mentioned Christine!! I take it most of us think she is truly enjoing her retirement in England attending to her flower garden.

My wish is though is that she gets bored of the green thumb and decides to joing the gang for one last fling for the 30th anniversary of Rumours in 2007. A true "Fleetwood Mac Farwell Tour. It doesn't have to be 135 dates--short and sweet would be just fine.

diamondsnake 07-02-2005 01:18 PM

A rock and roll chic like Christine can't live on tulip beds alone. Sooner or later she'll come crawling back to the Mac. Just you watch!

Yep, I think you're right that Mick and John stay in touch and Lindsey might be the most reclusive. But with Cory working with Stevie, he probably does stay in touch a little more. Btw, I didn't know Lindsey had a sister? I thought he had a few brothers.

I have always thought that Stevie felt held down when she was with FM as opposed to solo. From her clothes to her performances. I know it's unpopular to think this, but I agree that it has a lot to do with Lindsey. Compare the SYW tour to Vegas to now! Huge difference. SYW tour, she seemed tired a lot and much more reserved and the way she dressed really was not hot. Vegas? Smoking hot! Now? I would go gay for her. I think it's obvious she's more herself and loose when she's on her own. Just my opinion.

THANK YOU!!! I couldn't agree more. She has pretty much said this very thing in various interviews through the years. Lindsey has always been envious of people's adoration of Stevie. I can understand this. He was the creative mastermind behind Fleetwood Mac's records and he didn't get much credit for that, at least on stage. I think, especially in recent years to keep the peace, Stevie has intentionally toned down her performances and look to keep Lindsey happy. I think she feels a lot more free when she's solo and it shows, on all of her solo tours.

I think the future of Fleetwood Mac holds some sort of something-or-other for the 40th anniversary in 2007.

Personally, I hope it involves some sort of public humiliation for the band that isn't too expensive for consumers to witness or hear.

I"d like to see a Fleetwood Mac version of Cirque du Soleil. Imagine a show where every member of the Mac -- Stevie, Danny, Bob Welch, John McVie, etc. -- exhibit acts of courage & skill, breathtaking physiographic formations & death-defying stunts hundreds of feet above the venue floor.

See Christine McVie & Dave Walker soar above the crowds on the trampoline & the power track, whilst singing "I'm a Road Runner" & the original, unrecorded studio take of "Hypnotized"!

Witness Stevie Nicks & Peter Green take Dave Mason by the ankles & swing him skyward over the vast abyss of space in the banquine act!

catinthedark 07-02-2005 09:55 PM

Well, I would love to see Stevie finally publish her book of memoirs - but only after she has declared herself positively finished ever recording and/or touring again.

Late 2006: New Stevie album; very short tour. But then she will selflessly and valiantly leave the road to rejoin Fleetwood Mac for...

2007: Fleetwood Mac tour - Mammoth, heavily-promoted Rumours 30th Anniversary blah blah blah. Christine will join them on a few shows in the UK.

As much as it kills me to say... I don't think we'll see another Fleetwood Mac album. :distress:

2008 onwards... Stevie gigs in Vegas...

And Lindsey... anyone's guess. I don't see a solo album ever happening, unless he produces and releases it on his own label. I don't think he'll do a solo tour.

SteveMacD 07-02-2005 10:29 PM

Since 2007 will be the band's 40th anniversary, I bet they do SOMETHING.

What I'D like to see would be a new Fleetwood Mac album, however, not what most of you are thinking. I'd like to see an album of new material from all of the members who had significant tenures in Fleetwood Mac, specifically Stevie, Lindsey, Christine, Peter, Jeremy, Bob Welch, and Billy. Obviously, Christine still won't tour, and I bet Jeremy could be counted out as well. But, I'd love to see a 40th anniversary tour with Mick, John, Stevie, Lindsey, Peter, Bob Welch, and Billy.

I can see them doing another Mac album but i don't think they will tour with it BUT i can see them doing a Rumours anniversary tour  and they don't need an album for that. it would be AWESOME tho if each member picked one or 2 of THEIR favorite songs (from other artists etc) and performed them........like Stevie did with 'Rock & Roll"

And can I add, that to the people who say they'd rahter see Stevie record a new album then do her Rhiannon project, I think it's basically the same thing. Just with the Rhiannon thing, she's killing two birds with one stone.

SandyMac 07-02-2005 11:23 PM

I am going to be optimistic and say a new Stevie album in 2006, Rhiannon project finshed, and a new Fleetwood Mac album to tour with in 2007/2008

-Sandy

Hawkeye 07-02-2005 11:28 PM

I wouldnt mind if Fleetwood Mac took a page from The Eagles (cant believe i wrote those words!) and maybe go into the studio for few months, then tour without a new album and then go back to the studio to finish the album now Fleetwood Mac would differ from The Eagles in they'd actually make the album.

She could really turn this into a whole big thing.. It could be a soundtrack to the movie.. how awesome would that be?? then a tour to promote the movie and the soundtrack...

That's why I prefaced who was included with the word "significant." Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Stevie, Lindsey, and Bekka jamming out on "Angel" in concert. But as much I like Bekka, I don't think she, Dave Mason, Rick Vito, Dave Walker, Bob Brunning or Bob Weston had terribly significant tenures in Fleetwood Mac, and Danny Kirwan is too far gone to turn around. That's why I'd have to limit it to Mick, John, Stevie, Lindsey, Peter, Jeremy, Welch, and Billy for the tour, and Christine and Jeremy added for an album. I mean, screw the 30th anniversary of "Rumours." I want a Fleetwood Mac 40th anniversary celebration!
