The best movie quotes of all time

American Film Institute's list of best quotes from U.S. movies. No. 1 was Rhett Butler's parting shot to Scarlett O'Hara:

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." (have you ever said this??)

Brando had the No. 2 and 3 quotes -- "I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse," from "The Godfather" and his "I coulda been a contender" speech from "On the Waterfront."

Judy Garland's Dorothy Gale came in fourth with "Toto, I've got a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore," from The Wizard of Oz."

At No. 5 was "Here's looking at you, kid," spoken by Rick (Humphrey Bogart) to Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) in "Casablanca."

6. "Go ahead, make my day," Clint Eastwood, "Sudden Impact."

7. "All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up," Gloria Swanson, "Sunset Boulevard."

8. "May the Force be with you," Harrison Ford, "Star Wars."

9. "Fasten your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy night," Bette Davis, "All About Eve."

10. "You talking to me?", Robert De Niro, "Taxi Driver."

Sometimes I said "Houston, we hava a problem", at work, he he

"Hello Gorgeous" Barbra Streisand as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl - say this all the time

dissention 06-22-2005 01:17 PM

No "Yippee-ki-yay, mother****er" from Die Hard? Drats.

skcin 06-22-2005 01:29 PM

I like to quote pretty much every line from Goodfellas, but here are a few favorites of mine:

"Talk to you after what you just did to me?"

"And now, I gotta turn my back on you."

"What do you mean I'm funny? Funny how? Am I a clown to you? Do I AMUSE YOU? What do you mean I'm funny? What the **** is so funny about me? TELL ME!"

I'm the same way with Ruthless People. That has to have some of the funniest quotes ever.

"Looks like no dinner for you, then."
"Ah, gee whiz, that hurts. I'm a real aficionado of death camp cuisine."

"Jesus Christ, it smells like a toilet in here."

"When my husband gets through with you, you, your whole family, everyone you ever KNEW will all get chainsaw enemas!"

"Nice butt. That's what they'll say...in the men's club. The San Quentin Country Club. Not that you'll be able to see their faces because you'll be facing the OTHER way."

"I've been kidnapped by K-Mart."

SuzeQuze 06-22-2005 02:06 PM

Clint Eastwood in Heartbreak Ridge: "Keep dreaming, ****ball" God I cracked up when he said that. My BF in highschool dragged me to the movie and it was worth it for that one line.

Sometimes being a bitch is all a woman has to hold onto - from Dolores Claiborne.

Which reminds me of one of the best headlines I've ever seen in a tabloid newspaper.
When Harrison Ford announced he was splitting from his wife, the headline read: "May divorce be with you."

It's so corny but still makes me crack up!

I use both of these a lot. The first one when my sister's softball team actually loses a game. The second at random times, usually at school. I didn't know they were movie quotes.

"Oh Fred look, she's gotten her boobies. Oh and they are so perky!" From Sixteen Candles before Samantha's grandmother feels her up.

Nope, never said it, but I think I might just start. :)

My dad uses this one all the time.

"No touchie" from The Emperor's New Groove. It gets used by me and my neighbor a LOT because of all the little kids around here who feel the need to touch stuff they shouldn't. It's still one of my favorite movies!

Carol

cliffdweller 06-23-2005 02:57 PM

From The Big Lebowski: "That's like..your opinion man"

And as the dude is getting wrangled into the car by Big Lebowski's henchmen: "Hey, watch it, there's a beverage here!" LOVE that movie. I quote it often.

mondaymornin1 06-23-2005 03:45 PM

How 'bout Clark Griswold in Christmas Vacation..."It's a bit nipply out..I mean nippy....did I say nipple???" And, "It wouldn't be the Christmas season if the stores were any less hooter than they..hotter than they are..."

Yep...a classic movie. ;)

wondergirl9847 06-23-2005 04:21 PM

Missed the show, but I love...

"You....are....a.....TOY!! A child's plaything!" -

"You are a sad, strange little man." - Toy Story

My favorite movie. :D

DrummerDeanna 06-23-2005 04:53 PM

My favorite movie quote of all time, "You know what they say, if you can't say anything nice about anybody, come sit by me!" - Steel Magnolias :D

Carolina Girl 06-24-2005 10:50 AM

"demented and sad, but social" -- Breakfast Club

"I am disinclined to acquiesce to your request." -- Pirates of the Caribbean

From TV:
"Chicken? I could eat some chicken." -- Monica, in the tub with Chandler on Friends

Maybe not classics, but I like 'em :)

 SO true!

"screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place"

SteveMacD 06-24-2005 02:22 PM

From Caddyshack:

"I tell ya, I shoulda stayed home and played with myself."

But then again, anything Rodney Dangerfield said was funny and well worth quoting!
