Super Size Me
I know, the movie's kind of old now & we've discussed it a bit a while back.
But I just saw it last night & OMG! I felt sick watching it. 25 pounds in 30 days? Cholesterol increase of more than 50 points? Liver functions similar to that of an alcoholic? Sheebus! As if the food Ry, Curtis & I had in PA last weekend wasn't bad enough - BLECH! And the FRENCH FRY TEST? BTW - during the movie, hubby decided he was hungry & promptly ran to McD's for a Big Mac. Sicko. |
I know - I ate McDonald's last night in a moment of weakness and I swear I fell five pounds heavier today
I think though - if you want to eat McDonald's or other similar things, you should do so. Just do it like once a month. Everything in moderation  |
That doc was pretty entertaining to watch, but as Amber would so eloquently say, it belongs in Der Magazine. I mean come on...we all know how bad fast food is for us, do we really need a documentary on it? Well, maybe so for all those out there who haven't yet read "Fast Food Nation."
|
I haven't seen it yet (and actually I don't want to see it)! I'm there like everyday (okay, I try only to go every 2nd day) and yeah, I should stop eating 2000 colories every day! Maybe I am going to watch it when I come to the USA next month, so that I am not going everyday there!

McDonald's to Sell McKids-Branded Skateboards, Bikes
Thursday, June 16, 2005 LOS ANGELES — McDonald's Corp. (MCD) will begin selling skateboards and bikes bearing the fast-food company's brand in a new effort to get kids to burn off burgers and fries with exercise. The McKids (search) branded outdoor play equipment will be rolled out internationally later this year and in 2006. A few McKids items are already sold at retailers like Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) and Target Corp.. McDonald's Global Chief Marketing Officer Larry Light said in a statement earlier this week that the skateboards and bikes will be a great value and are "designed to help make fitness fun." McDonald's, the world's largest restaurant chain, is making an aggressive push to deflect criticism of its food as unhealthy and fattening. The company has already revamped its children's Happy Meal (search) offerings by allowing parents to choose milk instead of soft drinks or apple slices with caramel dip instead of fries. In recent months, the chain has promoted physical activity with the tag line "It's what I eat and what I do. I'm lovin' it" in much of its marketing. Just last week, McDonald's even said it was making over its famous clown, Ronald McDonald (search), to make him more athletic. McDonald's is working on the toys with DIC Entertainment, the Burbank, Calif.-based company behind the 2003 relaunch of the Strawberry Shortcake doll and kids' merchandise. In addition to outdoor play equipment, new products will include a video series that promotes physical activity as well as a young adult clothing line inspired by vintage McDonald's logos, the companies said. |
Mildly related and for Diss.
Yum Brands Sales Rise 6%, Outlook Reaffirmed Thursday, June 16, 2005 CHICAGO — Yum Brands Inc. (YUM), the parent company of fast-food chains KFC, Taco Bell (search) and Pizza Hut (search), Thursday said sales at U.S. restaurants open at least a year rose 6 percent in the latest 4-week period and stood by its second-quarter earnings forecast. Wall Street analysts expected an overall rise of about 4 percent, according to research reports. U.S. same-store sales, a key retail measure, rose 12 percent at the KFC (search) chicken chain, climbed 7 percent at Taco Bell, and were flat at Pizza Hut. Yum shares slipped 7 cents to $52.35 on the New York Stock Exchange (search). Yum has nearly 34,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries. Sales in China were hurt after the company pulled some products from its KFC restaurants there at the end of March. Yum discovered the products contained a dye banned from use in food because of concern it could lead to an increased risk of cancer. Yum is seeking money back from its China supplier over the dye problem and added that any financial recovery would be included in third-quarter and fourth-quarter results. Yum forecast second-quarter earnings of 56 cents per share, excluding the impact of a possible one-time gain from the initial public offering of its Poland/Czech Republic joint venture. That business, called AmRest, trades on the Warsaw Stock Exchange (search). Including the gain from the IPO on April 27, the company expects earnings in a range of 59 cents to 60 cents per share. Reuters Estimates listed the average analyst second-quarter earnings expectation at 56 cents per share. U.S. same-store sales rose 5 percent in the second quarter, the company said. |
He has a tv show coming out called 30 Days, I don't know it could be interesting, but then again I get interested in odd things.

I try not to eat out more than 2 or 3 times a week (lunch or dinner), and I try not to eat fast food more than once or twice a month. But there really are people that eat this stuff daily & that's scary. :( Quote:

And how disgusting is the new issue of TV Guide? I don't give a rats ass how celebs stay trim, they get hoses shoved up their bums to lose the pounds, anyways. I almost threw the stupid rag away, but then I saw a lovely photo of Jake Weber as one of TVs Hottest Dads. |

Damn I missed it! We get TV Guide at work (no clue why, we don't have a TV in the waiting room or anything) so I peruse it once in a while. Ripa's skeletal pic on the cover got my attention. I like her, but can she BE any thinner? |

What bugged me is that girl at the high school where "Subway Jared" gave that talk. She said she really couldn't do what he did cuz she can't afford it. Ummmm, it's not like he's saying you MUST eat Subway per say. Make your own sandwich. |

I missed that Kyra show, forgot about it. Is it on TBS? I watched Beauty and the Geek. Yeah, I know. |

Well the guy ate McDonalds EVERYDAY for EVERY MEAL, of course hes going to have catastrophic health things happen to him. Most people Dont do that. I dont think having fast food once twice or even three times a week will do much harm to you, as long as you exercise.
|
Quote:
Do you really think the people that go to McD's several times a week are exercising regularly? I don't. I know when my parents were taking me there once or twice a week, they sure as hell weren't (and still aren't.) |
I liked Super Size Me, even if it was a bit didascalic, IMO. Definitely McDonalds is dangerous but what about Spurlock's girlfriend? I doubt many people would become vegeterians after having seen how bossy and intolerant you can become.
About Kyra Sedgwick, I hope this new show would arrive in Italy, I've always considered her a great, underrated actress Romy |
A bit distorted. Another guy ate the same things the guy in the film did - To show the distortion , and he didn't gain the weight. Genetics at it again. No, it's not the healthiest, but don't believe as absolute everything they put out there.

I know a girl who is a size 2 who eats there everyday and exercises very little. Her cholesteral is like 130 and she is very healthy. People are different  |
I gotta say - I totally boycotted McDonalds after seeing SuperSize Me  But sadly - I caved recently
When that craving for a Quarter Pounder W/Cheese hits I'm a goner :p Anyway - I don't eat there everyday - not even once a month - and I exercise so I refuse to beat myself up about what I eat anymore :D |
Quote:
The Quarter Pounder W/ Cheese was created by Satan himself to tempt me. It is wonderfully delicious, despite its grossness. :D |
*drools*...
|
Quote:
Exactly  I couldn't have put it better myself.. I'm still impressed that I was able to stay away from McDonalds as long as I was lol - I knew one day I'd cave though - I never eat anythere BUT the Quarter Pounder W/Cheese there...oh and fries :p That fry experiment though??? SOOO disturbing *shudder* |
