Katie Holmes embracing Scientology

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movi....ap/index.html

LONDON, England (AP) -- Katie Holmes says she's converting to the Church of Scientology, embracing the religion of her boyfriend, Tom Cruise.

Holmes, in London to promote her new film, "Batman Begins," said Monday that she's excited about her lessons in Scientology, a religion founded by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard.

The 26-year-old actress and Cruise went public with their romantic relationship in April. The former Catholic and star of television's "Dawson's Creek" grew up with a poster of Cruise on her bedroom wall and has said she grew up wanting to marry him.

"We all keep dreaming, and luckily, dreams come true," Holmes said.

Cruise was in Tokyo Monday for the premiere of his new film, "War of the Worlds."

In an interview in the June 17 issue of Entertainment Weekly, the 42-year-old actor was asked if Holmes is curious about Scientology.

"Yeah, absolutely. She digs it," he tells the magazine.

In response to a question about whether he'd asked Holmes not to do "Factory Girl" -- about Edie Sedgwick and Andy Warhol -- because of the drug use in the movie, Cruise says: "I don't even know what 'Factory Girl' is."

He adds: "Listen, the thing you've got to know about Katie is that she's an incredibly bright and self-determined woman. She makes her own decisions."

Cruise was previously married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, and dated Penelope Cruz for several years.

Holmes and actor Chris Klein recently called off their engagement, after dating for five years.

When asked by Entertainment Weekly if he plans to propose to Holmes, Cruise replies: "It's gonna happen, man. It'll happen."

I was just about to post this!

RUN KATIE! RUN LIKE THE WIND!

gldstwmn 06-13-2005 01:27 PM

The virgin sacrifice. Run, Katie run!!!

ontheEdgeof17 06-13-2005 01:28 PM

They have shirts out now that say FREE KATIE.

Poor girl is being brainwashed. :distress:

sparky 06-13-2005 01:31 PM

Yikes. She's been sucked into the cult.

I think journalists should stop referring to that thing as a church.

strandinthewind 06-13-2005 01:38 PM

But, it makes no sense. Why would Scientology care about Katie Holmes. She is far from a big name star earining $20 or so million a picture. She is a relative no name in the big scheme of things. Moreover, Batman, of which she is not the star, seemingly will do well on its own as will War of the Worlds. So, I guess he must like her, which is just bizarre in its own roght because she is almost half his age, though that does happen all of the time I guess.

If anything, I think she has far more to gain by dating and/or marrying him.

estranged4life 06-13-2005 01:40 PM

I think she needs to embrace...

a handgrenade, pull the pin and then pull Tom Cruise close before the "count of 10"

chiliD 06-13-2005 01:41 PM

Scientology IS NOT a "religion"...it's a "way of life", yeah; in the same way that doing the Landmark Forum or Werner Erhard's "EST" is a way of life...but to give scientology status as a "religion" is just wrong. L. Ron Hubbard is no messiah...just a well-funded sociologist.

Age is relative:

mentally" , "emotionally" & "chronologically" don't always meet. Katie & Tom no doubt meet in the first two, but obviously not the latter.

amber 06-13-2005 01:50 PM

I love Tom, but, i gotta say....TROUBLE! (No, I don't love his religion. I love to watch him on screen).
Did anyone see her on Letterman? she was very, very dull. It was weird. I hope she was just nervous, or shy, or something, cause poor ol' Dave was really working... :distress:

jannieC 06-13-2005 02:16 PM

This is just so distressing to me. I swear, I wish that people could understand how harmful scientology is in the substance abuse world. I wonder if these stupid celebrities have any idea what goes on in these facilities. Of course, as we know, Tom himself has saved hundreds of people from drugs, so maybe he does know.

I hate to sound rambly, but this motherf*cker just burns me up.

wondergirl9847 06-13-2005 02:43 PM

Blergh.

I just now saw that on Yahoo and was like "She is one of the stupidest people alive right now." Sesly, Katie, we get the joke...now RUN!!!!

Yeah, I'm gonna go make up my own religion so I can be a trazillionaire. See ya'll later. :wavey:

They care about money Any money. And evidently, she is stupid enough to jump in and start spilling her guts on tape and paying them for the privelege.

Like her ?

I'm sure he likes her well enough. Well enough to use her as a prop and full
time beard anyway...

Exactly, the Landmark people are the ones who run the forum, as you mentioned, which made my friend snap. Granted she probably had a predisposition but she never would have suffered from this "break" if she hadn't attended the forum. I felt awful for her. I went through it too and it was the most bizarre experience of my life. *Runs to get Free Katie t-shirt*

Jason, I think she is doing this more to please her boyfriend than anything else. Scientology just wants bodies and its just a plus if they are famous. They'll try and recruit anyone.

I just wanted to echo everyone else's sentiments and say that I agree-this is not good at all. :distress:

I'm sure they reached some sort of agreement before their very first date.

Really? I kind of remember. I thought Dave quickly rephrased the question. And then she said something else like, reinacted how it was love at first site. Using only eye expressions. Yeah, guess you are right. :)

She launched into a story about swimming with dolphins.

That was a bit later. Dave switched the question to "how long have you known him" I think. Anyway, wasn't she dull? Sheesh.

I think that's why she was chosen. She's got the consistency of soggy bread, from what I've seen.

I'm suprised, her eyes look intelligent when she acts. in fact, I thought she was a fair actress. Anyway.

Serrart 06-13-2005 05:26 PM

Tom Cruise is becoming a joke in Hollywood anyway... I mean a scientology tent on the set? He's never been intelligent but now he's becoming pathetic. And I don't see a long future for the story with Katie Holmes... she will be saved sooner or later. :)

Romy

I disagree about his intelligence. I think that man has had more hits than anyone.

trackaghost 06-13-2005 05:37 PM

I just saw Batman Begins and decided that I really do hate Katie Holmes.
She has a wonky mouth, weird teeth and a weird child's face on a grown-up model's body. It just freaks me out.
I always thought she was a decent actress too but her role as Tom's new girlfriend ain't too convincing I must say.

What's wonky? I've never heard that word, but I think I love it!

And War Of The World will be massive. I think he's good at picking his movies personally. He's generally had more hits than misses.

So...you hate her? I think she's pretty.
