Stevie exchanges

I know there's another thread going about touching Stevie, but I'm curious to know what any of you have said, or overheard anyone else say, to her. Anybody suddenly draw a blank or get "foot-in-mouth" syndrome when face-to-face with La Nicks? :p The one time I got to shake her hand during EO17, I didn't want to come off like some potential stalker or anything, so all I muttered was a simple, "Thank you!" She just nodded and smiled. :D

I completely froze in front of her at the AHI benefit post-concert party in 1998. She walked into the restaurant, came within about 3 feet from me, and looked right in my eye.

I was so stunned that I just stood there and stared. I think it freaked her out a little and she kept moving. She was very skittish that night because it was when she was being stalked by that guy who wanted her to cure his homosexuality.

To this day, I kick myself wondering why I didn't just smile and say something nice to her. As anyone else who was there that night knows, that "party" was a disorganized mess and Stevie only signed autographs for a handful of people and left, so I missed my chance to meet her.

ontheEdgeof17 06-09-2005 01:32 PM

I met her in '88 and got her autograph, but I was only 5 and don't remember a thing about it. No pictures either. :o

I touched her again during the SYW tour. I didn't say anything though. If I get the chance again, I'm going to say "Street Angel rocks." ;)

Gypsy-Rhiannon 06-09-2005 01:40 PM

I spoke to Stevie when I met her in 2001. It was quite a surreal moment really. I can't really remember what I said now...it all sort of passed in a blur. I know I told her about my daughter Rhiannon and she thanked us for coming from the UK to see her. She also admired the gift that we gave her. Then she signed my tourbook and then thrust it at Sheryl Crow and told her to sign it 'They have come from the UK..'

Then when FM came over here for SYW she spoke to me at the edge of the stage after the London show. It was my third show and I'd given her a letter with a gift at the 1st one. She came over, took my hand and told me she got my letter. I couldn't really get what she was saying at first so she made like a writing movement with her hand and said 'I got your letter, Thankyou for your letter' Pretty cool

Oklahoma City July 2003

Well ~ I got all choked up and started to cry. I know ~ I know ~ she's just a person like the rest of us but I love her music and her songs so much. I was in OKC and I was front row and at the end of the concert and everyone took a bow ~ Stevie started to walk off and I yelled (in my cheerleader voice) STEVIEEEEE. She turned around and looked at me and I said thank you for your songs and that I love you. She walked right up too me and took my hand and told me she loved me too. I really don't remember much after that. They lady standing next too me took my arm and asked if I was going to be OK and if I was there with anyone. :D That was a special moment that I will never forget. I was able to tell her thank you. The coolest part is that the next week I posted my review on the Fleetwood Mac message board. A few posts in the thread later a girl said that she thought that she got a picture of that moment. I was ecstatic. I asked if she was from Oklahoma City and she said no that she was from Texas. I told her I live in Texas as well ~ long story short ~ we meet for dinner and she gave me the picture of Stevie taking my hand and we have been friends ever since. With Stevie Nicks there is truly magic everywhere.

Many, Many, Many moons ago I had a chance to speak with her at length backstage after a concert. I asked her a few Fritz questions and we spent the rest of the time (I know) talking about Tiffany lamps. She was receptive to talking antiques, so who was I to argue? I now know a few points in spotting Tiffany fakes. (Could never afford one). I think she enjoyed talking about things outside of music. (I was too stunned at the fact that here I was with Stevie and we were talking about - LAMPS) But that was over 20 years ago, and if I ever get the chance again to speak to her at length.(doubtful) I can think of a FEW more questions to ask. I hate telling people this story cause they give you that look. "You had that chance and you talked about lamps?" I just wanted her to stick around, I think if I had changed the subject back to music areas she would have bolted. And it was kinda interesting. She knows her lamps! Oh well. (I did get an autograph and a hug).

Eh, screw 'em ;). I think that's pretty cool. Everyone talks to her about music. You had a unique meeting. I think if you can talk to her like a normal person and not Stevie Nicks the stage persona, the connection is a little more special. Obviously she knew you were a fan, but you were also someone she could have a casual, engaging conversation with. It's different than "I love you & I've listened to you since I was 9 & my favorite song is Dreams & you're so beautiful and amazing."

seeker007nmss 06-09-2005 04:50 PM

Thanks. :) Here is a Stevie exclusive she told me. shshshshshshs

The old Tiffany lamps used wax in the leading of the glass in the shades, as the wax gets old (or falls out) the glass on real ones always will "rattle" a little, in the fakes, the glass is always real tight!

I bet she never told Lindsey that!

That's funny ~ it was right after good-bye baby. Man, I hadn't thought about that night in a while. I did a search thru my old posts to read my comments after the concert. I forgot LB signed my ticket. I still need to frame that baby. And the guy standing next to me got Mick's drum sticks. That kind of interaction with the band you love is priceless.....

Oh man, oh man...what an unholy mess this was. I too was there. I will never forget how horrible all of this was. In a nutshell (as I can go on for fifty pages) I will never, ever forgive that evil Gerri Kroloff...Karloff (or whatever her name was) for making such promises. I will also never forgive the AHI for not even trying appologize. The class move would have been to issue us another shot. One must make good on such promises. Broken promises are bitter pills, especially since this may likely be our only chance to meet her. The entire thing was a fraud, plain and simple. I should have contested the bill....something I regret to this day. Should I meet her, all is forgiven............once I regain conciousness.

I like your story. I totally agree with Tiffany and I think it's cooler that you talked to her about something other than music and "I love you." You had a real conversation with her and learned something new about her that no one else would ever know. If I ever get to meet her I would like talk to her about horses and if she ever rides since she did ride in a couple of videos. :)

When I shook Stevie's hand in 2001 at Pittsburgh, I kind of was in awe and just reached up and took her hand...and almost didn't let go. I was at almost the very end, so she shook a few more hands, and while she did I screamed at the top of my lungs, STEEEVIE, I LOVE YOU!!!! and was jumping up and down like a little kid getting candy at a store. That's when she turned to me, held her hands out and did I little finger wiggle at me. Anyone who has the Pittsburgh show will see her do this before returning to the mic, and if you are very sharp, you'll see a few flowers bounce up and down for a matter of 2 seconds right near the end of her shaking hands. Those were mine. They're wrapped in paper. But when you see her do that finger wiggle, I swear it was right at me cause she looked right into my eyes.

catinthedark 06-09-2005 11:34 PM

Wow. I think the lamp chat is a great one. I bet she'd remember that conversation.

I've had two encounters - one typical, one funny.

First off, pretty typical, but it was a moment I'll never forget. It was just last summer, last SYW show in Detroit. Stevie wasn't shaking hands, but at the end of World Turning, just as she turned to walk back towards Mick, she must have seen me thrust out my hand towards her, and she just all of a sudden turned and walked straight back down towards me, looking me dead in the eye, and she grasped my hand in both of hers. All I managed to sputter was "Thank you." She said "You are welcome." But then, she kept holding on, and kept staring at me, so I sputtered "thank you" again (how cool am I?) and she said "You are welcome" again. But she STILL didn't let go. So I said "I love you" and she smiled the sweetest smile, nodded, said "I love you, too" and then finally let go. The people beside me were like, what the hell? Does she know you?? :o I wish... And then, at the end of the show, one of the roadies was undoing the ribbons and bows from her mic, and he just turned and came over to me and handed them to me. I? Was stunned. Needless to say, I treasure them.

And the funnier one - was on the OSOTM Tour, in Ottawa. My friend and I were right up at the stage at her feet, and during Whole Lotta Trouble, Stevie flubbed the words, and I sang them right, and she heard me and started to laugh. She looked down at me and said "You got it right!" And we both laughed, and then she continued singing.

I got her to tell me all about Street Angel backstage in Dublin in 2003 ('cos im sooo obsessed with it!)..she told me about Klonopin, the difficulty making the record etc. and then I got a promise that she'd listen to it for me :D
She could see I wasn't impressed by the awful stuff she'd been saying about it all the while,so for her to have revisited it for me is just --> :)
I can only hope she didnt sling it out of the CD player in the process of listening to it and stamp it into a million pieces with her platform boots

I've shaken her hand 3 times, 12-31-99,and 5-11-05 in Vegas, and 7-17-05 in Dallas. The first 2 times it was pretty routine, but in Dallas I held he hands with both of mine, and I told her that I've been listening to her for 28 years, and she LOOKED RIGHT AT ME and nodded and smiled. It was amazing that among all those people, I was the only person she was interested in, even if it was for only a few seconds. WOW

I was in the first row of her Enchanted concert when she came to Portland, Oregon. I was able to shake her hand, but it wasn't very personal. She was just randomly holding out her hands...and she was looking over my head at someone else when I grabbed it! If I had a chance to say something quickly, I'd say "Thank you for the music!"

As far as degrees of separation...I've been 3 degrees away from her...lol.
When I briefly lived in Tuscon, AZ, I was a coworker and friend of a guy who grew up with Chris Nicks. He told me that Stevie's mother would always tell them to cut their hair.

On another note...I have another friend who used to house sit for the rich and famous in California. Around 1977, he house sat for Christine McVie. One day he and his friends went on a joy ride around LA in her personal limo.

I was fortunate enough to shake her hand in Greenville, SC during the SYW tour. If you have the dvd you can see her go to walk off stage and then stop, turn around and come back and shake my hand, although you can't really see me. I was crying of course and said "I love you", she basically took my hands in hers and smiled and kind of nodded...the most surreal moment of my life...

Well, this is more of an embaressing story, but at the Milwaukee show, she was right near me for Edge, and I was SCREAMING Stevie. She looked at mid scream and when she looked at me I stopped and stared at her and she smiled. I can just imagine the look on my face as I was screaming.

I met Stevie at the Storytellers taping. After they finished filming ( those of us who were there were so lucky- 4 hours of Stevie in a small intimate studio, some songs and stories such as Standback-the Prince strory, were done over a couple of times, we didnt care !! We screamed out that we would've stayed there with her all night! ), Stevie went around to shake hands with the people in the front row. I nervously waited my turn, as I had asked a stupid question earlier during the Q and A session. I was the third person she came over to. She skipped over people, just like during Edge walk sometimes. She took my hands in her hers, looked into my eyes and smiled. So what do I say? " Stevie your incredible! " I regret it to this day! I was so nervous , thats what came out of my mouth. She said "Thank You", we hugged and had a kiss on the cheek and on to the next she went. I wish I had brought in my camera and my boxset for her to sign, but since it was a studio setting, I didnt want to seem like a crazed fan-lol! I have a bootleg video of my experience though, that I will treasure forever!

At the 2004 SYW concert in Hershey, my boyfriend and I were in the front row, in front of Stevie. When she took the stage, she looked right at my boyfriend, winked and smiled. Of course, he had a sheepish grin on his face the entire night, after this!

No matter, LB played his Come solo in front of me :D
