What do you save?

If they're still in good shape, I save:

Plastic shopping bags
Twist ties
Gift bags/bows

I also make futile attempts to save money. :D

Anyone else?

strandinthewind 06-06-2005 12:23 PM

certainly not money

GardenStateGirlie 06-06-2005 12:31 PM

I've saved every paper and note taken in college. I've also saved my text books (the ones that couldn't be sold back). I have this inane fear that one day, i'll need them again (really, I think I may). I save plastic shopping bags because we line the trash cans with them. I save e-mails, PMs, notes that were passed to me in high school (just because reading them now makes me laugh). I used to save jewelry boxes and things to reuse but i've since thrown them out.

Much like Jason, money? Not so much.

xxxmx 06-06-2005 12:33 PM

bubble wrap + foam packaging wrap
screws and fasteners
magazine articles (scanned and then tossed)

i used to be really really retentive, i didn't save like stacks of newspapers or anything (not that there's anything wrong with that), but until recently i kept all of my old gnarly nail polish, movie ticket stubs, matchbooks, and batteries. the polish was gross, i didn't need all 14 Titanic stubs, i don't smoke any more so i don't need like 20000 matchbooks, and those batteries were probably dead when they went into the box years ago. i'm better now.

i had three big boxes of trash scraps of paper and notes from high school that i couldn't bear to just throw out. i scanned every last little shred of paper and then ceremoniously hauled it out to the trash. i wasted a day of my life, but i ended up with one small shoebox of the most important stuff and 25 square feet of closet space. fair deal.

KarmaContestant 06-06-2005 12:36 PM

Save 'em.

I save the rubber bands that bundles of asparagus are bound with. They're usually purple.

Dreammms 06-06-2005 12:40 PM

i basically only keep gift bags.

i hate clutter.

i even throw away the plastic cases that CDs come in and just keep the cd and artwork. (well not my officially released stevie/mac/lindsey/christine... etc cds)

amber 06-06-2005 12:58 PM

Books, and looking around my house, CRAP, as well. Most of it appears to be paper crap. There's some plastic bag crap. Some crappy clothes. Oh, and cigarette butts, too - gotta save those! I think I also have some crap saved in my fridge....Oh, and I save Cats, who are never as grateful as you would want...I save clothing catalogues. For a long time. As if I will buy the clothes.

GypsySorcerer 06-06-2005 01:29 PM

-Gift bags
-Most of my notebooks/binders from college (though some desperately need organizing)
-Textbooks I deemed worthy
-Emails
-Cards. I think I have every card I've received since birth.

hayley 06-06-2005 01:34 PM

I used to save beer bottle caps in a big plastic tub. When I realized that I could glue them to everything in my house and cover every surface, I reluctantly threw them away. Now I only keep what I've drank that night out, so I know how many I've had.

Speaking of drinking beer- is it really that weird to bring a bottle of beer down with you to your apartment building's laundry room while waiting? I got the weirdest look from a couple of people last night.

ontheEdgeof17 06-06-2005 01:38 PM

-every vase that I get flowers in

-all my checks that ger returned once they are processed through the bank

-all my notes from Nursing School

-gift bags

-and I save lives

I know. I know. I'd to think of something I save cuz there isn't much I do save.

I save my grease for french fries.

Considering in New Orleans where I am mostly from, they have a laundromat/bar on St. Charles Ave. called Igor's and that place ROCKS most afternoons. So, no, one bottle of beer is so not weird

I would think it was weird if you didn't do that.

Same here. Some of them have like Jem or My Little Pony on them.

Others:

-Concert ticket stubs
-Textbooks
-Some of my notes from college
-Emails/PMs that are especially good and/or kinky

GateandGarden 06-06-2005 02:33 PM

-ticket stubs from movies, plays, concerts, musicals, etc.

-programs from plays and other performances

-plastic bags from various stores

-cards

-notes from middle and high school

-PMs (as many as I can) and e-mails

-magazines (though I'm selective)

-notes from my college classes (not high school because that was just crap), with the exception of math classes--I never want to see any of those notes again

estranged4life 06-06-2005 02:37 PM

I really don't think it's that weird, some people are just puritanical about alcohol. Mmm, beer... I guess you should consider the source too since I like beer. I wouldn't be likely to take a beer to the laundry room though. Well, if I had one. :( Laundry room, that is, I do have beer. But I hardly ever drink at home cuz I just don't need another bad habit.

It's hot and sticky and nasty in the laundry room, and I knew I'd have to wait a few minutes, and I'd just opened a bottle. I wasn't going to leave it upstairs to go flat or warm while I was down.

A couple of the stares were in the elevator. I guess it does look a little weird. They should be used to me, though. The other day I was out with my guy drinking at the playground in the middle of the night, and forgot to stub my cigarette out and had it in the lobby and elevator with me, while holding my brown bag and giggling.

Yeah. I'm a drunk.

I used to do this, too .. but a few months ago, I got rid of them all. I've never need them once in the 10 years I've been out of college. Get rid of 'em!!

ABFAB! i'm watching Cold Turkey from Series 5 right this very moment... how very spooky...

diamondsnake 06-06-2005 08:46 PM

Magazines! I can't throw them out- I may need them for something someday!

Old Video tapes of soap operas. This is my really bad habit. Half of my closet is filled with VHS tapes of Days of our Lives and Passions episodes. These I will not throw out because they never air repeats of soap operas and once in a blue moon I will get the urge to watch some old episodes. So, I have pretty much archived every single episode, Monday thru Friday, 52 weeks a year, for five years! It is a sickness!!!

catinthedark 06-07-2005 12:21 AM

- concert ticket stubs - every one since my very first Cyndi Lauper concert at age 15

- all my college and university papers and text books

- all my stuffed animals since I was a kid. They're packed away, but I could never throw them away

- every card or note I've ever gotten from any of the guys I've ever really cared about

- far too many emails

- boxes that major electronics, my computer, and other big ticket stuff came in - for when I move or have to return them! This is an annoying habit. Takes up too much space

- all my old cassette tapes - as if I'll ever listen to them again...

catinthedark 06-07-2005 12:22 AM

Hey... look at that! I'm an Addicted Ledgie! When did that happen?

Ooooh Oooh! Yer your on haha. I have a lot of people claim I am gay, but I really am not, I am quite feminine, but gay I am not. But you shouldnt accuse Chris of that, not that it's a bad thing but it could be embarrassing.

Well, that was why I put that (J/K) at the end and all. And I figured that regardless of that he knows that I know he's straight and I'm just playing.

And Homie--that was funny, as usual. :)

Thanks. My work is done. It bothers me when ppl sometimes think I'm being mean. Most of the time, I'm just trying to be funny. I guess I should've been a comedian (although I'm, admittedly, not that funny), cuz I live for making ppl laugh.
Anything for a laugh. That's my motto.
