Very Cool. Thank you Kirsten, Thank you Tiff. :)

Beachwood Mac 06-04-2005 03:07 PM

Thanks Kirsten and Tiff!

It's breathtaking. Now I know how those who didn't get to go to Vegas felt. That duet was probably worth the price of admission.

It looks like she thought it was going to be "we did the best we could" and was ready to sing on it, then remembered it was just Don's line ("you did the best you could.")

From this I'm guessing they traded off verses and then did the choruses together? I wish we could hear a little more of Stevie's part. Beautiful, nonetheless.

If you wouldn't mind hosting again, I have a minute worth of the performance with her singing

gldstwmn 06-04-2005 03:22 PM

Wow. Just wow. I'm so glad she took a stab at something different.
Jimmy Iovine was so right on about her when he said she can mold her voice any way she wants.

Great clip. I wasn't familiar with the song, so went and looked at the lyrics.

OMG... If I had been there and I knew that song, I woulda been bawling my eyes out like a baby. It would have been a repeat of opening night in Vegas during BATB... those are some very powerful words. Stevie is definitely in emotional mending mode these days. I think it's absolutely beautiful!! {{sob}}

I hope she plays this live for the solo tour, too. Do you think she will? Or is this a Don/Stevie only song.

catinthedark 06-04-2005 06:59 PM

Lyrics to Circle Dance:

I don't know why it should be so hard
Givin’ up this circle dance
Worn out steps from long ago
Don’t give love a chance

It’s a bitter heirloom handed down
These twisted parts we play
I’m not her and you’re not him
It just comes out that way

Can’t go back to make things right
(though I) wish I’d understood
Time has made things clearer now
We did the best we could

I’ll be home soon, that’s what you’d say
And a little kid believes
After a while I learned that love
Must be a thing that leaves

I tried so hard just to hold you near
Was as good as I could be
Even when I had you here
You stayed so far from me

Can’t go back to make things right
(though I) wish I’d understood
Time has made things clearer now
You did the best you could

Now that this has occurred tome
I just wanted you to know
I’ve been too faithful all my life
It’s time to let you go

So sad. Not sure it necessarily is a Stevie-Don break up song (as in after all these years, it fits their break up). But it definitely is a beautiful song for them to sing as a duet.

I also don't see it as Stevie saying goodbye to her fans...

Serrart 06-04-2005 07:22 PM

It's really amazing. Thanks Tiff and Kirsten!!!! She sings it with so much heart.

Love her on it, Henley not so much. I'm just stoked she tried something new. Finally, after years of the safest, most dull song choices, she pulls this out of her ass. Shocking. And I love it.

*swoon* Thanks, Tiff. And many thanks to the darling Marissa. :xoxo:

I have to admit, this is the best I've heard Stevie in many years. She sounds heavenly on it; so soft and it sounds like she's controlling her voice perfectly. I'd love to hear her record a studio version of it, which is saying a lot considering this is one of my favorite Raitt songs. Just leave Don out of it, Stevie. ;)

rhiannon1119 06-04-2005 10:28 PM

Thanks Tiff... and Marissa... you rock!

I still can't get over that she did Circle Dance. I never thought she would cover Bonnie ayway, but that one? Fabulous.

One amazing performance does not erase years of boring, stale, and listless performances. :xoxo:

Yeah, it was Lindsey who prohibited her from actually doing something interesting. That devil.

Begging your pardon - but she had many amazinf performances of rare material on The Enchanted Tour and BC was stellar and hardly boring, stale and listless on the SYW tour. So take that Mister Man :wavey: :p :wavey:

Who gives a **** about Enchanted, that was seven years ago. She tortured me with the TISL tour and then tortured me with the SYW tour where she embodied the term "senior citizen." We see things differently, dear, there's no use arguing. She's sucked in recent years, imo, and I know you don't feel the same way. That's life.
