Sentimental Lady

round 5

This hurts and I might wind up regretting it but I'm voting for "Dust."

ontheEdgeof17 05-30-2005 12:13 AM

Sentimental...gentle wind

That's the song I wanna vote for.

GypsySorcerer 05-30-2005 12:23 AM

"Dust," again.

HomerMcvie 05-30-2005 01:44 AM

DON'T kill Sentimental Lady!
Dust is my vote.

Mari 05-30-2005 02:19 AM

This is the weirdest Survivor I've seen in a while.. first Homeward Bound, and now you're going for Sentimental Lady !?!? And I don't get all those votes for Dust either...

Bare Trees. Not that it 'll make any difference.

Mari 05-30-2005 03:14 AM

I'd no idea about that poem. And you're absolutely right, the song and the lyrics are beautiful. Thanks for that info!

Round & Round #5.

"Dust" is so beautifully understated and elegaic, both musically and lyrically, that I have always thought it one of the best songs in Fleetwood Mac's extensive catalog. I love the fact that Danny Kirwan found a superb poem by Rupert Brooke that he appreciated/related to and then managed to adapt it into an original, moving piece of art. Danny's gentle yet masculine voice quietly melds with his lilting, melancholy guitar work to create an effect that is lulling despite the darkness of the poem/lyric...It's simply stunning, and always makes me feel contemplative in a way few things--most literature, music, conversation, art, included--do upon listening. He manages to capture "the white flame within us" on record flawlessly while making it sound almost effortless.

In other words the song is a boring piece of garbage on the same level as "Woman Of A Thousand Years" and "Sands Of Time".

J/k. There's not a weak link on this album (except for TOAGD), I just like "Dust" a bit less than the others that are left. So I'm trying to vote off "Dust" again.

macfan 57 05-30-2005 05:59 AM

I'll go with Dust even though I think Bare Trees is a weaker song. I'm just trying to protect Sentimental Lady(one of my favorites on the album).

bretonbanquet 05-30-2005 09:18 AM

Sentimental Lady is fairly dreadful by Bob's usually high standards, it's got to go, but I fear it won't :distress:

ThePenguin 05-30-2005 09:19 AM

Dust for me again.

-Lis

strandinthewind 05-30-2005 09:20 AM

I may as well jumo into it and vote Dust out. Nice song though.

alexsdad 05-30-2005 09:45 AM

Time to put the "Lady" out to pasture!

Alexs dad

Tusk! 05-30-2005 11:24 AM

Dust is a loser this time.

Hawkeye 05-30-2005 12:39 PM

Setimental Lady can go blow in the freaking gentile wind.

chiliD 05-30-2005 01:06 PM

Cut down the Bare Trees

It's not about not liking it. I adore it, but the other songs are better, IMO.

Hippocampus 05-30-2005 02:52 PM

Bare Trees is my vote (in a pitiful attempt to save Dust and Sentimental Lady)

Miss Vicky 05-30-2005 08:50 PM

Geez, I love this album and it looks like all of my favs are still holding on... but which to vote off???

Tough one.

As much as I love it, I think Bare Trees is the lesser of the greats among this pack.

GateandGarden 05-30-2005 11:05 PM

Well, the white flame is gone

"Dust" is gone with 8 votes!

And the rest-

"Sentimental Lady" 6
"Bare Trees" 5

Did we really have that many people voting? It should still be more, though.

Okay, round 6

Here's what's left:

Child of Mine
Sunny Side of Heaven
Bare Trees
Sentimental Lady
Spare me a Little of Your Love

(And don't ask why I initially put the song titles in quotations and then don't do that with the remaining tracks. I don't get myself, either. )

GateandGarden 05-30-2005 11:06 PM

round 6

This time I'm going to vote for "Sentimental Lady."

Again, sorry Bob.

ontheEdgeof17 05-30-2005 11:10 PM

Sentimental Lady.

CreepingDeath 05-30-2005 11:16 PM

Sentimental Lady

GateandGarden 05-30-2005 11:30 PM

I thought excessive use of colors was my job?

HomerMcvie 05-30-2005 11:42 PM

Bare Trees.

GypsySorcerer 05-31-2005 12:42 AM

"Bare Trees." (Had to join the color bandwagon)

Round & Round #6.

It's getting tougher and tougher. Ah well. "Sunny Side Of Heaven"

macfan 57 05-31-2005 04:46 AM

Bare Trees

Miss Vicky 05-31-2005 06:26 AM

I guess my vote was too little too late for "Dust" :distress:

But for this round I'm sticking with "Bare Trees." It's great but the others are better.

alexsdad 05-31-2005 06:52 AM

You are here today, but easily you might just go away!!!!! Sentimental Lady

Alexs dad

ThePenguin 05-31-2005 07:16 AM

[QUOTE=alexsdad]You are here today, but easily you might just go away!!!!! Sentimental Lady

Sentimental Lady for me also.

Hippocampus 05-31-2005 01:27 PM

Bare Trees

golddustwoman77 05-31-2005 01:27 PM

Wow, this is really difficult, because I really like the songs that are left. :(
Since picking a song that needs to go is the purpose here, I'm going with "Sentimental Lady."

bretonbanquet 05-31-2005 02:22 PM

I can't believe 'Dust' is gone :distress:

'Sentimental Lady' must be next - it's the only song left that isn't brilliant.

Hogwash - I think it is stellar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Thus, I vote off Bare Trees, though I like it a lot.

Mari 05-31-2005 02:30 PM

I totally forgot I haven't even voted in this round yet!

Bare trees
