Has anyone made...

a mix CD of fave Fleetwood Mac songs? It's really hard to do! There's too much to choose from and there are so many songs that I've yet to hear. But I made one a few months ago with this tracklisting-

1) Angel
2) Forever
3) Never Going Back Again
4) That's Alright
5) Sunny Side of Heaven
6) Gypsy
7) Talkin' To My Heart
8) Sara
9) Hold Me
10) Child of Mine
11) The Ledge
12) Everywhere
13) I Know I'm Not Wrong
14) Miles Away
15) Beautiful Child
16) Miranda
17) Brown Eyes
18) I Don't Want to Know
19) Like Crying (from Blue Horizon box set)
20) Underway (anyone as crazy about this one as I am?)

Then I realized that I didn't include "Why" and "No Questions Asked" and concluded that "I must have...I must have been CRAZY!"

I would replace "Brown Eyes" with "Why." I'm also not sure why I included "I Don't Want to Know." It probably isn't worth of a top 20 or anything.

I wish I had more blues-era, but I don't know as much of it, comparatively. So my CD wasn't all that balanced.

dissention 05-18-2005 10:06 AM

6. Behind the Mask

You know some people are going to have to kill you for not including any pre-BN FM!

I didn't know you were such a big "Nights in Estoril" fan. That is a really beautiful song.

EDIT: Meant to ask...BN or White Album version of "Crystal"?

ontheEdgeof17 05-18-2005 10:20 AM

Best song on Time. I'm a big fan of her songs from Tango to Time, anyway, I thought she was at her best during that time.

Toss a good chunk of the Stevie songs and that's one helluva compilation. I think I may have to pilfer it for myself, thankyouverymuch. :xoxo:

Is that you're not really a fan of blues music, or you don't really like FM's particular blues music?

tuigirl 05-18-2005 10:40 AM

Mixed? Yes, all the time..all different eras, many versions of the same thing and I'm naughty, I chuck in things that friends have sent me ( wee music snips theyv'e made themselves) and that way, they get to be on an FM CD with them..!!

Not a fan of FM's. :sorry: It bores me to tears.

How so? I can understand being bored with some of Jeremy's Elmore James ripoffs, or with some the jammier covers from various live CDs (Jenny Jenny, Tiger, etc.), and I guess I can even understand finding some of Danny's stuff to be a little snooze-worthy... But what could possibly be boring about Black Magic Woman, The Green Manalishi, Oh Well, Love That Burns, Man Of The World, World Keep On Turning, I Loved Another Woman, Rattlesnake Shake... ?

I don't usually make single-artist mix CDs for myself, because I tend to prefer just to listen to the albums, but I don't think I could possibly make one for Fleetwood Mac even if I tried. At the very least, it would have to be two discs, and I don't know if I could put Green and post-Green tunes on the same CD. It seems like such a different aesthetic, I don't know how I'd make it work. But maybe I'll try it someday soon and report back then.

Yeah, songs like "Black Magic Woman" always have me entertained. Also, "I Believe My Time Ain't Long," and have I ever mentioned how much I dig "Long Grey Mare"? I think I have more than once at this point!

But I can't really see Danny being boring, but then again I love "Only Over You," so you can't trust a thing I say! But I love "The Purple Dancer" ("dancing in the space of...time") and "Child of Mine." I think those two are anything but boring. And for whatever reason I'm fascinated by the "Like Crying" on the Blue Horizon box set. The production on Then Play On bothers me. I love the way the vocals and guitars sound on the box set version.

You have a point there. It's bizarre to put Green and post-Green together. I've been listening to "Watch Out" lately and it would be weird next to "Landslide" or something.

Oooooh, that's a good one! I love "Coming Your Way"!

(But needs more Stevie!) Of course I'm going to say that.

catinthedark 05-18-2005 10:02 PM

Oh, my God! How many dozens have I made??

Mine mostly are made up of demos and boots - the released stuff I tend to listen to on the released CDs.

Well, let's count 'em, and see how they stack up:

Peter Green: 6
Danny Kirwan: 7
Jeremy Spencer: 1
Bob Welch: 3
Christine McVie: 4
Lindsey Buckingham: 3
Stevie Nicks: 5
Dave Walker: 1
Rick Vito: 1
Billy Burnette: 1
Bekka Bramlett: 1

Hmmm...that's surprising...Danny led the way. Welch only 3; Chris w/4

Definitely NOT an indication of my favorite members or songs, really.

Johnny Stew 05-19-2005 12:14 AM

I made this one AGES ago, but it's one of my favorites:

The Chain (live LA Forum 1982)
Seven Wonders
Little Lies
Goodbye Angel
Silver Springs
Nights In Estoril
In The Back Of My Mind (edit)
Freedom
Why
Rhiannon (live 1976)
Go Your Own Way
Save Me
Gypsy
Bleed To Love Her
Sara
Wish You Were Here

wondergirl9847 05-19-2005 12:50 AM

Amen!

I agree with everything you said, except the Like Crying. I don't own the Blue Horizon box set, so I wouldn't know about the differences. I'm curious now! I love Only Over You, Purple Dancer, Child of Mine and Like Crying a TON!!!

GypsySorcerer 05-19-2005 01:40 AM

I'm surprised "Only Over You" has a couple of fans. It is probably the only Christine song I truly detest and always skip.

I suffered through the beginning notes one time....and the middle and end of the song is actually good. It's that damn OUT note that kills it.

Girl, you have to get the box set anyway! Even if it didn't have "Like Crying"! It's such a good buy! I would send you the mp3 but not only do I have a way to convert it to an mp3, I can't even rip songs from CDs for some reason. Nothing like that seems to be working for me lately. :sorry:

Sorry. I just haven't gotten into it. Though, in Christine's defense, it seems that I just recently figured out that it's sarcastic. I think taking it seriously was an initial mistake of mine. But still, it's one of the few Christine songs that I don't like, and I can't say that about Stevie. I have too big of a list of Stevie songs that I just do not like.
