If Anyone Falls In Love

This song, which has never been a favorite of mine, absolutely blew my away in Vagas. My favorite part was when all the instruments stoped playing and the whole band sang "Somewhere, twilight", etc. I just thought that was really cool how everyone was singing on stage to little or no music. It was such a cool idea.

How Still My Love is another one that never got my attention on the album but was fabulous at the show. I loved it in Vegas, one of the best songs!

On a different note I loved how Stevie kept saying how everything was "sexy" on Staurday night. I've never heard her use that word so often and freely. And loved how she said Carlos or Brett or someone runs the band like a porshe! LOL

Her dancing and twirling and kicks were great too of course and I never saw so much of this during SYW. I think she truely is subdued in Fleetwood Mac. The only song she went crazy during on that tour was Standback and that was her solo song.

The girls harmonies were amazing. Lori? is amazing. Her voice is striking. I only wish she'd reconsider touring with Stevie because she'd be a great asset to those backing vocals.

I was standing right in front of Lori and she did not look like she was having fun to me. Both her and Sharon seem somewhat cold. I would say Jana seems like the friendliest to me, but what do I know? Maybe the backup singers are instructed to never smile? I don't know- it seemed odd to me. I could just see their expressions so well since I was right below them by the stage.

I agree! We kept looking at each other and saying, "What's up w/ everything being sexy?" LOL Well, Venus was just recently in Gemini. Amber????

As much as I do prefer Landslide w/ LB, I loved Stevie and the girls singing "snooooooooow" together.

Her voice is beautiful blended together with Sharon's and Jana's (and of course, Stevie's). I think if they came off a little cold, it's because they were nervous (especially Lori). You have to remember, it's been a loooong time since she's been on stage with Stevie in that way. I had the opportunity to meet both Sharon and Lori when I was in Vegas (so did Tiffany, Deborah and Tiffany's friend Anita and i'm sure others on this board as well) and they were nothing short of sweet. Truly some of the nicest people you'd want to encounter.

You missed it...Tuesday night they were SO NERVOUS. Stevie didn't bother to dedicate Landslide to anyone but instead made a comment basically alluding (IMO) how nervous the girls were about taking it on. They literally all looked like deers in headlights but I did enjoy the three part harmony.

I agree. I especially loved when she introduced Sorcerer and when 'they' joined FM, and said something like, it was everything you think it was- exciting & crazy & SEXY. Just the way she said "sexy" was hot.

Stevie made it a point to highlight Sorcerer a lot each night. One night she was practically doing a lap dance to it--Wed. Another night she said the song was a prophecy or prophetic, I forget exactly the word. Last night she talked about the time when she wrote it being sexy, which actually was a time before joining FM. Sex seemed to be a strong vibe in Vegas. Does she really think what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas?

Wednesday's Sorcerer was amazing. Stevie definately seemed to be in her own world...dancing sensually, oozing sex appeal. It appeared the room was on fire all around her.

I got a couple smiles from Lori and Sharon. Actually, Lori looked right at me and smiled when she sang "ooh, baby,ohh...said ooohhh..". :p This was saturday night though. maybe the nerves had left by then?

Said idea dates from the Timespace tour.

Lori looked down and smiled at me too. :) This was the second night and she was more relaxed and seemed happy to be up there.

She was "sultry", I think that's a good word for it. Although, I have to admit, I really didn't notice how much she was putting it out there! I was probably just far enough away not to really see.

SapphireSister 05-17-2005 01:54 PM

Another great thing about them doing IAF is that it is partly about Waddy and was written when they were touring together back in the day so it is so cool that all these years later they are still standing side by side doing what they love and that she could be singing it to him right there at that moment!

Yeah, I'm glad they did it again. Kind of like Angel from the Bella Donna tour - love the girls accapella!

BTW - I was right at Lori's feet on Tues - she seemed very nervous. May have been the annoying woman screaming at her feet waving her Sharpie marker at her. Jerk.

Sharon is soo nice

Hey, I met Sharon before the opening night show. I met the whole band by chance actually and Sharon gave me a hug and then shook my hand and asked my named. And Waddy, he's just awesome, shook my hand too. But yeah, they do just stand up there, not drawing much attention to themselves.

My hubby and I noticed that about Sharon, Jana and Lori on Wednesday night. We were in the middle section in the 4th row so we could see their faces really well. I don't recall them acting this cold or odd during the FM concerts the last few years. They usually smile at Stevie but there were no looks or smiles going back and forth like I have seen in past concerts. Sharon and Lori hardly smiled and Sharon looked like she was mad or just didn't want to be up there. Jana seemed to smile a bit on Wednesday. I did notice Lori putting her arms around Jana after the concert. That was the night Stevie couldn't remember Jana's name or called her "What's her name?" It just bugged me that they hardly moved that much. Just seemed like they were scared to do anything on Wednesday.

lagringader&r 05-17-2005 10:36 PM

Sharon and Jana did look completely bored last year during SYW shows. I agree with that. My boyfriend commented on it at one of the shows we were at. Maybe they are? I didn't have a great view of them in Vegas, so can't say. Hmm

I thought I'd remembered reading or hearing about that song inspiration at some point, so glad to see your post and know for sure. Funny when you see them together up there to think what was going on when she wrote it. I think it's great that Don, Lindsey and Waddy are still in her life. Wonder about the others... Joe, Rupert, J.D.

It's funny you say this because IAF is one of my least favorite Stevie songs, yet I really enjoyed it at the shows. I can't put my finger on why the album version bugs me... I think the synthesizer is just annoyingly bombastic and the vocals on the title phrase sound a little shrill. But hearing it live, the other instruments seemed to balance the synth better and the chorus vocals sounded much more pleasant. I also adore the little a capella part before the end!

Sharon is anything but cold. Onstage may be a different story... perhaps the reason they don't look very animated is that they're concentrating on keeping rhythm with their choreography, and blending and timing their vocals correctly - remember that singing harmony is a lot different than lead. Or maybe they think the spotlight is on Stevie and don't realize how much people watch them too? I don't know. They do look a bit somber sometimes, but I have seen them all smiling onstage from time to time (and even have a couple pictures of it) too. Jana is sweet, but I was watching her sign stuff for people after one of the shows and I wonder if the fan attention is not still a bit overwhelming to her. She seemed like her Nicksfix Q&A answers suggest - happy to oblige picture requests and say hello, but not eager to chat with fans at any great length. Lori seemed gracious & friendly, and Sharon is truly one of the nicest, warmest people you could hope to meet.

I think a lot was nerves. And look back at old shows - they are never really smiling & laughing while singing. Dancing & moving more, yes. Grinning & acting cheerful, no.

And Stevie did not call Jana "what's her name" on Wednesday. She was jokingly referring to Lori. :)

I was trying to find some Vegas related thread to put this in and figured this is just as good as any of them. It was originally about this song, anyway.

I just wanted to say that I'm listening to Brian's Vegas mp3s right now (thanks Brian!) and I'm totally sold on "If Anyone Falls"! I'm surprised at the energy she put into it, since, as many have said, she doesn't seem to sing that way anymore. I guess she will be singing like that again. :woohoo: I think this sounds wonderful! I love the a capella part near the end! This is quite a treat!

Isn't it though? The acoustics in that room were fab and those backing vocals were a bit more pronounced live than what you're hearing on the boot. I loved If Anyone Falls and judging by the reaction, so did the rest of the crowd.

i've always loved this song, hearing it performed with such precision was truly fabulous.

it's also very fun to sing without any precision in my car ;)

Nothing beats a bright, sunny day, sunroof open, belting out your favorite Stevie tune and not giving a damn how the other motorsists look at you.

Careening down the Detroit freeway in a convertible on the way to a FM concert with the "Bum Bum Bum Bum AHHHHHHHHHH" version of Gypsy blaring and a slightly tipsy, large, loud and busy Jason riding shotgun

Need I say more  :wavey:

Let me just clarify. In real life I am sure these people are very sweet. I was just saying that on stage they seemed upset and a little cold.

And someone said this is how they always are, well on the Red Rocks DVD the backup singers are a lot less formal and smile the whole time, etc. And dancing like crazy!

Is it possible they were sharing in Stevie's "party" at Red Rocks?

I know, I agreed with you :). You also said Jana seemed like she'd be the friendliest in real life, so I added my impression of each of them, although chatting for a couple minutes after a concert is not really "real life" either.

I think there's a question in one of the singers' Q&As where someone asks about the girls' moves and comments that they used to seem much more free-form onstage (like in Red Rocks). The answer was they thought it looked better/more professional for them to be choreographed or something.
