So should I?

Hello...

So when I was 12 - I had the BIGGEST crush on this student teacher in band.

I can still remember the exact moment when I saw him for the first time lol....he was ten years older than I and of course I was but a dorky and ackward middle school band geek.

Well - that is probably the biggest most intense crush of my life - it never went away - from 12 to well...now lol...I have seen him on and off through the years- though not for many years now - the last time saw him was at a wedding when I was in high school...

Okay - so my sister is good friends with this guy's best friend. Well my sister's friend forwarded her an e-mail which she forwarded to me...

AND the guy I used to like's name/e-mail is in the list of folks the message was sent to!

I know he's in South Carolina beause my old band director filled me in (without my asking, he just saw me at bar, walked up to me and without so much as a hello he said, "okay - so I'll give you a Mr. Lane update" lol...

Okay - so my question....(and yes I'm totally neurotic )

I have his e-mail now - I thought it'd be amusing to e-mail him....

But I don't want to be creepy or weird...I guess I'm just super paranoid about how an e=mail will be received...

That and I don't know what to say....I don't want to address the fact that my creepy ass has been pining away for him for years lol.....just a friend hello type thing - mostly I'm just interested in making a contact with him as a grown person...ya know now that I'm no longer 12 :p

Anyway any input? thoughts? advice?

I feel like such a dork...but I've been thinking about this all night.

estranged4life 04-29-2005 01:46 PM

Just send...

a short email asking how he is doing, how your doing, etc...

Just follow your heart is all I can say (I can relate to how you feel in a way, I tried to think of what to ask my sister Lesa when I first talked to her in February)

"Just go for it"

skcin 04-29-2005 01:48 PM

I think you should email him. What have you got to lose? Just be casual, like "hey, I happened to come across your email, wondering how you've been, yadayadayada..."

I wouldn't include a photo of the shrine you have for him in your bedroom though. That might freak him out a bit. ;)

But then I'll feel so bad if he doesn't respond lol....seriously. I feel like SUCH a spazz right now :p

estranged4life 04-29-2005 01:50 PM

respond, youre a cool chick...Just don't worry much after ya send him the email, I'm sure he will respond.

DrummerDeanna 04-29-2005 01:55 PM

Oh...well here's one reason I'm so spazzy about it.....a bit of (embarrasing) history:

Being that I was in sixth grade - and sixth graders are evil vile creatures...he TOTALLY knew I had a crush on him. Why?

Because pretty much everyone and their grandma knew about my crush -and everyone got a charge of, right in front of me, walking up to him and saying, "Mr LANE! Deanna likes you..."

And as I would silently die of embarrasment. Okay - but once this asshole Gabe did that and Mr Lane said, "You leave her alone!" and I was of course - plunged deeper into my crush...

The worst however what the love letter my friends helped me write to him lol...

we had absolutely NO intention of ever giving it to him....but my friends and I were joking about ways to give it to him...then our friend Annalise joined late, said we were stupid, grabbed the note and marched up to the table he was sitting at (this was lunch time) - and gave it to him...

He began to open it and my band director grabbed it from him and read it out loud to the teacher's table...I ran out of the cafeteria dying of embarrassment...

lol....there ya go

He will remember who you are, right? That's key, that he will know who you are when he reads the email. If he does, I'm sure he'll be happy to hear from you. Why not? Sounds like a great idea to me.
That said - does anyone know if my freshman Science teacher is still married???

he's never been married and has been single for a while now :D (my crush - not your science teacher)

wondergirl9847 04-29-2005 02:23 PM

Deanna!

Go for it, girl...you only live once. LOL I have a mad crush on this dude I saw at Scarborough Faire last weekend. LMAO!! I'm a weirdo.

Good luck with the email.

LOL....funny you should mention that.

his best friend (my sister's friend) thinks he might be gay. Lane denies he's gay - but his friend is skeptical because he's been single for so long and apparently he has this high list of standard for a woman that are not so easy to meet... who knows....

irishgrl 04-29-2005 02:36 PM

maybe the fact that your old mutual acquaintance marched right up to you in the bar and announced "ok here's an update on Mr. Lane" means that Mr. Lane has been following YOU (on the sly that is...) ya never know...that IS kinda ballsy..good luck! :woohoo:

Aww, what a sweetie. And since he knows you had such a big crush on him you should maybe even mention it in your email! "Hey, I'm the woman who used to be the girl with the biggest crush on you ever, remember me?" Definitely use humor, use interest in what he's up to and how he's doing, and include what you are up to and your single status, hehe. OF COURSE YOU SHOULD EMAIL HIM! You've got nothing to lose, girl. AND, try not to focus on getting a reply and just write, like Brian said, from your heart. :xoxo: Good luck!

By the way, I do not know how you even survived all that teasing! I think I would have just *died*.

GypsySorcerer 04-29-2005 02:43 PM

I agree with everyone else --- I'd shoot him a quick email. Short and sweet. Let us know what happens. :wavey:

Mari 04-29-2005 02:44 PM

Hehe.. sounds cute, go for it :)

Yeah - I remember wanting to die after those things...

THEN once I was going on and on and on about MR. Lane and how hot he is etc...my friend Kelly was just looking at me all wide eyed, I got a sinking feeling, looked behind me ...and there was my band director just staring down at me smiling lol....

Stupid Mr. Chip (band director) - he must have totally given Mr. Lane a hard time about it

I just wanted to chime in and agree with everyone else. You've got nothing to lose so go for it! I think it's great that you have the opportunity to get in touch with him again and you should definitely take it.

 I would NEVER talk about who I liked for fear of embarassment. I did this once in second grade and my friend's older brother teased us so badly I was so mortified. Actually, I take that back, I did tell a friend's mother I had a huge crush on him naively thinking she wouldn't tell him, duh! But I rarely told anyone anything. Too scared/shy.

I've always been such a damn loud mouth lol....but honestly I've never had as big a crush on anyone as I did on Mr. Lane lol...he's definitely the object of my biggest crush/obsession....

I'm a dork.

AND...

I'm currently drafting the e-mail..I CAN'T stop smiling :] I'm seriously a dork

wondergirl9847 04-29-2005 03:35 PM

Well...

I'm almost 29 and I've been single my whole life....and everyone thinks I'm a lesbian. I feel his pain.

I regret to this day, not telling this guy how I felt about him...he went and met his "soul mate" (gag) and got married. I'm an idiot. So, I say, tell people how much you like/love them!!!!!

Aww, how cute. :xoxo: I understand this feeling because mine was a kid I knew camping, our parents were friends, sort of still are and I hung out with him a lot in the summer. I never told anyone I liked him but my Mom knew just cuz I am her daughter and it was written all over my face. But I was just a kid. He was only 2 years older but that was just enough not to be interested in skinny little barely pubescent me.

I was so devastated when he got a girlfriend and then 2 years later he frikkin married her, or maybe it was more like 5 years. Anyway, they are STILL together, since I was 13 man! But sometimes I think, what if they got divorced, oh that's terrible. I would never go there but I just think if it "came about" that they were divorced then maybe...

These huge crushes from adolescence are very powerful, aren't they?
