Spin-Off: Favorite Happy Songs

Taking a cue from Tracye's thread, what are your favorite happy songs?

My biggest one is Carly Simon's Let the River Run. I *love* that song, always have. Another one that puts a huge grin on my face is Sparkling Diamonds from Moulin Rouge.

Dreammms 04-28-2005 11:15 PM

Brown Eyed Girl makes me happy !

GypsySorcerer 04-28-2005 11:15 PM

"Hold Me" always makes me happy.

Also, "AM Radio" by Everclear, "Ten Rounds with Jose Cuervo" by Tracy Byrd, and most anything by the Beach Boys.

Johnny Stew 04-28-2005 11:24 PM

Some of my favorite "Happy Songs"....

"Love Will Show Us How"
"Got A Hold On Me"
"You Make Loving Fun"
"Holiday Road"

"Whatever You Need" - Tina
"When You Say Nothing At All" - Alison Krauss

diamondsnake 04-28-2005 11:28 PM

Say You Will... Fleetwood Mac
Something's Gotta Give... Etta James (I think that's who sings it?)

Omigod! I forgot about Erasure! I still have one of their tapes. They're the only Europop fag (no offense intended, of course) band I ever liked!!!! I'll have to bust that out... :xoxo:

They're freaking awesome! And I was immediately offended when you wrote Europop fag. So, I'm glad you clarified!    See, the laughing guy means I was kidding! Made sure I clarified!

Love to Hate You, Blue Savannah, Star, A Little Respect. The list goes on and on! They are so great! Apparently Andy Bell (singer) is dying of AIDS though. Super sad. Their new album is very reflective. Apparently he's pretty sick now. Sigh... A world without Andy Bell is a sad, sad world!

Oh, no!!! That is sad. Yeah, I liked them because they were all fast and fun, not depressive and drony like the other ones I can think of. You know how everyone likes the Cure, and Morissey, and the Smiths, and, uh, whoever else? I don't like them. (well, I like a few songs by the Smiths for a brief period, but I was just trying to be cool)
Oh, another one I like is Bronski Beat.

run away, turn away, run away, turn away, run away! I totally sing that as I walk down the stairs to the pool. remember the video where Jimmy Sommerville has a boner for that swimmer guy! Well, that's me! So many cute swimmers. So few towels to cover my crotch!

okay, seriously. i gotta go to bed. I was up until 4:00 last night. Went to The Killers show here. They were okay. Flavor of the month but like six months ago. So, not that great. Anyway, then I came back home and drank some gin and played some cards. Then went out to a bar and stayed there 'til it closed. Then came home at 3:00 and watched Live at Red Rocks until 4:00. Yep, woke up pretty, pretty, pretty hung over. But it was all worth it!

  Me, too, the difference is, last night I didn't do anything fun, I went to class. And tonight I just got back from class, and won't be doing anything fun again. Except recording myself singing. Laugh worthy, but not as good as going out. :xoxo: A lot cheaper, though.

amber 04-29-2005 02:58 AM

I'd like to add -
Bette Davis Eyes
It's not a happy song, in and of itself, but it makes me very, very happy. I don't know why I love this song, and it's 5 notes, so much, but I sure do. I just think it's so beautiful. Sure, it pays homage to my favorite actress, but I think I'd love it anyway. Those five notes are just sublime. doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo. Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo.
Not to mention Kim Carnes's vocal quality. yummy sexy.

GateandGarden 04-29-2005 08:42 AM

Tears for Fears- Head Over Heels
Aha- Take On Me
(well, they're perceived as happy by me)
Abba- Dancing Queen
Stevie- Whenever I Call You Friend (stop laughing! )
FM- Forever
FM- Everywhere

One of my recent favorites is What Happens Tommorrow by Duran Duran. :) In fact, that whole CD is pretty happy.

cliffdweller 04-29-2005 09:36 AM

I love anthemic songs!

Now don't laugh but I really love "Don't Stop Believing" by Journey. I know it's cheesy, please forgive, but for some reason that song just lifts me up. And now every time I hear it I think about the skating rink scene in the movie Monster. Great movie, btw.

These are great picks. "Maybe I'm Amazed" has a tinge of sadness though, don't you think? I think the great love songs always do. ;)

Oh my god. I love Monster

but I really dig Be My Wife by David Bowie as a happy song, even tohugh the lyrics are sort-of sad

cliffdweller 04-29-2005 09:45 AM

I forgot one: add "Honey Hi," "Think About It," and "Angel" to the list.

Yeah, David doesn't have a lot of "happy" songs in his catalogue. The man was not a happy camper for many years. If I had to pick Bowie songs I'd pick "Changes," "Days," "Watch that Man (LOVE THIS SONG!!)," "Hold on to Yourself," "Modern Love" and "Suffragette City."

strandinthewind 04-29-2005 09:50 AM

"Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves

WHHOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA - AND ITS TIME TO FEEL GOOD HEEEYYY AAALALLLLLLLLLLLLL RRRIGHT NOW

"Take on Me" by Ah Ha is a close second

Yeah, that was during his Trilogy stage and he didnt seem really happy, but then again it wasnt Mr. Thin White Duke. Modern Love is a good bowie song it makes me dance

"Don't worry be happy..." obvious choice, but I haven't seen it yet

and last but not least....."when you wish apon a star" my fav. rendition is by Kate Bush, but it is so Peter Pan and happy, could be sung by anyone ;)
