The Best Song Stevie Ever Wrote!!!!!!

"Well you're a front liner...
You put it all on the line
And you're a gambler...
You turn lucky every time

Ooh, you're consistent...
Hey, and that's good!!
And you're persistent...
Well I am overcome

Well you're not like anyone else
You're just an instant flash of light
That shines through the night like a lighthouse....

Well you're a victim...
Phantom of the opera!!!!
And you've been everywhere...
And you live in dark shadows
You do what you want to...
There's no Beauty and the Beast here
No... no..... no!!!
There's no Beauty and the Beast here!!!"

If she does this in Vegas I'll plotz!!!

amber 04-15-2005 09:38 PM

kidding, right?! Me and Diss always joke about this song. Although, truth be told, as far as SA goes, it's one of the ok ones. At least it's fast and has a beat.
oh, and Towie? You're my Frontliner.... :xoxo:
Stevie sure is fabulously weird and unpredictable, isn't she? <3. *as i listen to the lyric "rock and roll, ballerina, where else will she go?"

AlllRight Baybeh! well alright!!!

GateandGarden 04-15-2005 09:42 PM

I'm not really a fan of that song. At first, I was like, "Hey this is fun and upbeat and stuff," but the lyrics really bother me.

Hey, no one understands why I like "Love Changes" and "Every Day."

dissention 04-15-2005 09:50 PM

HEY, and that's good!!!

What a winner that song is. Deborah Harry singing it in the nude couldn't get me to like it.

You two assholes are the reason why this ****er has been stuck in my head for the last two weeks!!! I'll be sitting on the can and all of sudden, "No, no, NO!!! There's no Beauty and the Beast here" pops into my head and I'm insta-pissed!!!

I guess that's cuz I put it all on the li-hine and HEY! That's good!!

OY!!!!

You know, waaaayyyy back in 1993 when I bought Street Angel, I actually liked this song...... kinda.

Now.... HELLO!!! Fahgetabouttittt... OY!!! The "light that shines through night like a lighthouse" is the part that, for some unknown reason, bugs me more than the "hey, that's good", "phantom of the opera", or the "no, no, no B&B" stuff. Although that last one is in contention for the Worst Stevie Lyric Award.

You poor dear. But I suppose it's better than sitting on the can and having "Ooh, it's just like a river, it's neverending" pop into your head.

One of the worst, but the staring at the stairs line is probably my worst one. Good christ, that one makes me want to insert a douche into my ears to clean them out.

The first time I got Street Angel, I think I sat there with my mouth open until Destiny came on and then had to turn it off for fear of getting violent towards my CD player. And, mind you, I was only, like, 15 at the time and even then I knew **** when it hit my ears.

just teasing you, dear. I mean, I think they suck, but far be it from me to judge someone's Stevie tastes. it's near impossible, as far as I can figure. The only constant I have found, is that everyone loves Edge. right? any Non-Edge-lovers out there?

Of course, Miss Joshua will not be making an appearance in Vegas, which is also pissing me off.

Wouldn't you just have an orgasm if she did it live?! I envision a lighthouse on wheels rolling about in the back of the stage with dancers throwing their bodies to and fro, while a man dressed as Mufasa the beast roams around throwing roses at Miss Nicks. Ah, it might happen in Vegas.

You know, I had the same reaction, only - It was the first Stevie album besides Timespace, and the best of FM, that I ever got! imagine my shock and dismay. I was like "huh? what? this isn't Edge or Stand Back! HELP!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" Luckily there was a Bob D. song, and Kick It, to help me through the transition. Now I like Street Angel. Or, at least, the five or so songs that can only be expected....

I only know one person. My best friend, who thinks Stevie's good but better when she's with FM, says that Edge is "kind of dumb." It's the only popular Stevie song I know of that she never got into at all.

I like Just Like A Woman and the incomprehensible **** that is Love Is Like A River, but that's about it. I like the title track a bit, too, no matter how absurd that stupid thing is.

I can't listen to the song that was the topic of this thread.

What can I say? I *adore* the music for "Love Changes" and also the way she sings "It was not better for me" with bitterness just dripping from her voice. I also love "That don't mend the sorrow...or reinvent the pleasure."

Also, though I don't think these are brilliant lyrics or anything, they really apply to a relationship I was in at the time that I first heard the song--

"I wish I could figure a way around this
She says...like a sad song
I don't understand the way that I feel
I am terrified of being wrong
Well, I am not happy
And I am not crazy
Are you listening, do you hear
Everything happens for a reason
Stay clear"

So, it's personal for me. You know how that is. Sometimes we love stuff that's not all that great just because we have a personal connection to it.

Hawkeye 04-15-2005 10:10 PM

I... LOVE the HEY And thats Good line and this whole song in general.

I like "Love is Like a River" a bit. I never got into the others. The strange thing to me is that, at first, I didn't like "Kick It" at all! I listened to it once and thought it was nothing to get excited about. Now I think it's the best track on the album! Oh, and I'm totally a sucker for "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind," too. I can't resist it.

I had this really weird premonition listening to Stevie talking about how she was gonna be pulling out all of her former outfits and the only thing I could think of was a 57 year old Stevie tromping out on to the stage to the tune of "Tusk" in that tube-top sundress and floppy hat twirling the baton....

I need to get a life....

I'm not - I so want to but am just to degenerate and broke to swing it. If you send me money, though, I gladly would! sesly, I'm still looking for a way to stay longer.
I'm sad, too, that Miss Joshua won't be attending. When, oh when, will I ever get the opportunity to smak him??? :distress:
always love the Towie - now that I am thinking about how you'll be there on Fri, I'm making a more concerted effort.... :p

I was going to reserve my comments on Kick It, but since so many people like it...I think it's atrocious!

That whole "I think that is the meaning of love and I prefer to kick it...kick the habit" makes me laugh my ass off. No one can ever accuse her of having a way with words. And the Egypt line is just the icing on the cake. Sorry, I never warmed to that song.

ooo, girl, I like Love is Like a Rivah, too! "You used to call me wickehd...I used to call you friend..." that song kicks ass! (as much as SA can) not so much with the "maybe love will change your etc" - actually I hate that song. honestly, kick it, Greta, JLAW, and Love is like a rivah, are my faves. Rose Garden makes me want to vomit. Blue Denim is good. Destiny is whoreanus. Un con dish on al love is pretty mediocre.

Hawkeye 04-15-2005 10:21 PM

yeah, Kick It is my favorite off of SA. Its mainly for the awseomely great guitar playing but I also love the KICK... The Habit.

The only bad songs off SA in my opinion are Greta, Unconditional Love and the much loved Matbe Love... Rose Garden is a real good song with a AWFUL vocal.

Oh, I totally forgot about "Blue Denim"! Well, I really only like the one on the box set. I can't stand "Rose Garden" myself. Some love that one, though.

You are so wrong right now, in so many ways. Kick it rocks!!! And, hey, who hasn't been waited for in Eeee jyped!!!! We can all relate to that line! but sesly, I love that song. I can't believe that line, about kicking love, makes you laugh. Hasn't everyone wanted to kick that habit? love is painful, after all. (except for the sex part, if you like it like that. ). Doesn't she say "It's something like a drug" in the background at the end? And that's not in the liner notes? When I heard that, I was like, Now, why'd you have to do that? That was so unnecessary and you're threatening to ruin it!

That is 100% what she says at the 4:01 mark. It's pretty clear. Before that though, starting at 3:56 she is singing something in the background, beneath the "love, love" backing vocals. That I can't make at all. So you could both be right.

I think so, because I think I'm remembering a different part when she says something like "something like dying." The part I'm talking about isn't so clear and I don't think it's accounted for in the lyrics.
