CLEVELAND (AP) -- Mick Fleetwood sometimes has to lean over at
the dinner table and concentrate on what somebody is saying a few
feet away.
The 57-year-old drummer for Fleetwood Mac said his partial
hearing loss is why he became involved in Monday's experimental
"quiet" rock concert at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in which
about 100 people took part, with mixed results.
The concert featured the band Eagles of Death Metal, which first
played two songs without any amplification. The audience, listening
through miniature radio receivers, reacted mostly with smiles to
the adjustable sound.
The band then followed with three amplified songs on speakers,
as it normally performs. Many in the crowd jumped up, dancing and
waving their arms.
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, based in
Rockville, Md., measured the unamplified sound at 62 decibels -- a
normal level -- and the amplified sound at 124 decibels, which they
said is like a jet engine.
Fleetwood, a 1998 inductee into the Rock Hall, said many rock
musicians now wear ear protection or monitor their music
electronically, but he questioned whether quiet concerts would
catch on.
"Who's to say? Could you see 18,000 people someday listening to
Pink Floyd on head phones? Maybe, with a weird magic wand," he
said. "What I'd hope this does is make the point that you can wear
ear protection, such as earplugs, at concerts and still enjoy the
concert."
Ben Schreckengost, 21, a former member of a rock band, said the
quiet concert didn't impress him much. "I would think live is
better," he said. "I like to sing along. You don't feel the bass
and the drum."
But Yulia Kokhan, 26, enjoyed the muted tones. "I don't like
loud," she said.
Fleetwood Mac, a classic rock band dating to the 1960s, still
performs and will likely have another tour in 2006, Fleetwood said. ------

Did he mention what kind of tour?
Normaly they just tour 'round US.
Would be nice visiting Europe once more, the thoughts already is exciting.

I really wish that Stevie was not touring right now. She needs to get back in the studio with The Mac ASAP and be done with the record by Aug 1 2005. :lol:
This way they can start touring the end of summer. :D

Sounds reasonable. Stevie could do her thing with Don Juan this summer/fall? and then go back into the studio late fall to winter 06. For all we really know, Lindsey could be working on songs for the MAC album now. I realize he has said a few other things but history shows that doesn'tlways mean much. I am excited about this and hope it pans out. It also coincides with what Taku said to someone in email from his sight...."Mac in the summer of 2006"

Honestly though, I think Mick would like them to tour in 2006 but I don't see it happening.

With all due respect to Buckingham\Nicks - I hope it's a reunion of Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac. It's been talked about by Mick before.

Now THAT would be something very very cool. Sadly, no record company will let them record in style (house in Bel Air) like that and, therefore, I do not see Mick doing it. But, the concept is HUGE IMO.

A double bill with Buckingham/Nicks and Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac, perhaps.......just a little idea, no such scuttle.....but it would seem natural.

Actually, I think Mick would be into it, and would probably be the only person who could pull it off. I read Mick's book not long ago and one clear thing that comes through is his true love for FM and it's entire legacy. He considers any players that were a part of the band as a sort of "extended family", and get has stayed in touch with the original guys. Danny is probably a very long shot, but the others are reachable. And Mick has tremendous respect for Greeny's position as the guy who started it all. Mick has also been instrumental in getting early Mac stuffed released in recent years.

Well, with Mick talking about the possibility of a reunion of the original band, it's hard to say which Fleetwood Mac he's referring to these days.

Now, we cannot give up. If everyone keeps saying it wont happen then it wont and as odd and messed up it sounds for him to make a solo album..I am sure it will happen...Just beleive and you will receive.




But if he deosnt I am gonna feel like a total jackass :lol:

Screw the tour, :laugh: does anyone else see something wrong with this age? Won't Stevie be turning 57 herself in May?!?!? I thought Mick was much older than her.

That's a shame about his hearing loss. I guess back when he first started he didn't use ear plugs, but I don't think this "quiet" rock concert is the answer. This kind of concert experience wouldn't impress me at all.

No, he's not that much older than her-- This year LB will turn 56, Stevie will turn 57, Mick will turn 58, John will turn 60 and Chris will turn 62. So many articles get their ages wrong.

I've read many articles with Mick's birthdate being in 1942, not 1947. I've sometimes suspected that Mick at some point shaved five years off his age. :laugh: He certainly looks more than just one year older than Stevie & there's no way he looks four years younger than Chris. :D

I don't know, I kinda think he looks ok for 57! But I like older guys. ;)

Chris has said she felt like 'a big sister' to the guys.... :shrug: Men don't seem to care as much about that 'age' stuff.... for some reason I believe him! :p

Then again, Mick at one point was the manager of Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, John McVie, Christine McVie, AND Bob Welch. That would add five years to anybody's life. As he said, it's no wonder he went bald!

Queen of the Penguin...I am so glad you cleared up the age thing with Mick. So many people seem to think he is so much older than Stevie..you know old enough to have fallen in love with Jenny was Stevie was ten years old. Um, nope. Stevie doesn't normally write that literally anyway. She means VERY YOUNG...sorry for the rant. Micks age is such a issue with me and Beautiful Child.

True. But his energylevel on stage is at least 30 years younger than those ladies.

Basically my feeling is that when he filled out that Melody Maker Chart in 1969, he wrote his bday as 6/24/47-- and why would a 21 yr old lie about his age? :D (well maybe to appear older so he could drink etc but that wasn't an issue anyway!)

The falling in love w/ Stevie when she was 10 bit is beyond my scope of Stevie knowledge LOL. IMO she just chose the age ten because it rhymed w/ 'then'! :D

I know. Why would a 21 year old suddenly want to knock five years off his age? LB's birth year has been inaccurate from time to time but when Mick's is people assume he is lying about his age? Why would he care? He does not look that old to me, in fact I think nowadays he looks much better than he did during Rumours/Tusk. In his book, when he talks about being in school, does he give the years? I will check. I have always thought that Christine was the oldest, followed by John, then Mick, Stevie, Lindsey. I swear I remember reading a comment by Stevie where she says he is one year older than her too.
Yup, 'ten' rhymes with 'then' and she means young. Reliable person told me that too. It would be kind of hard to wrie "you fell in love when I was sixteen" or "you fell in love when I was twenty"...ten flows nicely and implies innocense , youth, and how many years they have had these feelings. (not he fell in love with someone else when she was ten, but he fell in love with HER when she was young and things have changed so much since that time of innocense.) Why am I even talking about this? Sorry for straying off topic but whenever Mick's age comes up it makes me think of Beautiful Child.

I heard a Rumour tonight from a guy who does some promoting that Fleetwood Mac will be in Australia in 2006, we were actually talking about Stevie in Vegas at the moment and he mentioned about Stevie Nicks in Melbourne in 2006 :shrug:

I dont care if the Mac tours again in 2006...unless they put out a new album. I am one of those that thinks touring is a moot point without new material. Although, I know thats where the REAL money is made. Especially if you dont sell a million or two copies of your album. I know Say You Will didnt go platinum...and I wonder how many copies they needed to sell to break even? I mean, they spent a year in the studio. That's got to rack up quite a bit of bills.
