Stevie's Storytellers released on DVD

Two British websites are listing Stevie's Storytellers DVD for release on July 4.

http://www.sendit.com/video/item/7000000100706

http://www.play.com/play247.asp?page...=25&g=25&pa=sr

I do hope it's true! I'll try to find out more. I'm guessing it's Warner Vision who is releasing it since they tend to do all the Storyteller releases here in the UK.

No listing on Amazon yet though and I couldn't find anything about a US release.

Cool for you! My mommy recorded that for me - Stevie looks very pretty

I LOVE the Storytellers show. It is fab indeed.
I hope it has extra footage *crosses fingers* the DVD releases often do, esp since Stevie's was pretty short to start with.

Cool beans! Yet another reason to buy an all-region player (I recommend everybody get an all-region player). See http://www.regionfreedvd.net/. They're as cheap as can be.

You can just go out to K-Mart and pick up an Apex for $25. They'll play anything, even those ridiculous Kodak Picture CDs.

I love Standback on the Stevie Storytellers episode. Maybe my favorite version, although Live in Boston is a close second.

Wouldn't you say the star of the show is the droll, dry, sardonic Benmont Tench on acoustic piano?

He steals scenes (or shots) by just smirking & playing some chords.

GateandGarden 04-10-2005 05:01 PM

Why the UK before the US?

That's a great news! :blob1: I usually buy from Play and they're pretty reliable.

Funny that. Usually I think to myself, why the US before the UK? ;)

Sounds to me like the UK branch of Warner (if that's who it is) has decided to release the DVD and they will have little or nothing to do with the US branch.

That whole video is worth it for Stand Back. She does a great job. Maybe we will get extra footage on the dvd. Too bad all the people in the audience were complete stiffs.

StevieNicksEO17 04-10-2005 06:35 PM

Will it be released in the US too?

Well, because Stevie is a US entertainer so naturally, the US should come before the UK.

Yeah, the one time I watched it I couldn't get over how sedate the audience seemed. What was the deal? I think the audience in the Dance DVD is just as bad, though. I keep waiting for them to start screaming hysterically about something but it never happens. Maybe the audio was altered.

Not really. Blondie is from the US of A and us American fans had to wait almost a full year after the European fans got it before their last album was released here in the states. Many music releases in Japan and the UK get bonus tracks that we don't. Hell, Cyndi Lauper's last album was only released in Japan. Some American films get released on DVD over there before they're released here, too.

I don't know why the US "should" come before the UK. They're just as worthy as we are and I don't give two squirts of duck **** if I have to wait a couple extra months for a program that I already have on tape.

Erm, okay. Yes, of course the US should come before the UK

As I said before it must be the doing of the British record company. The US branch obviously didn't deem you worthy of getting it first, Christopher.

I certainly hope it will be released in the US. I've never seen it. Haven't seen Stevie's Behind the Music, either.

I don't mean to be offensive... I am just saying that a segment taped in the USA and showcases a rock star that hails from the USA and aired on a channel that originates from the USA would generally be released in the USA before other foreign countries. I mean, does that make sense to anyone else other then me?

Well, a lot of CDs are recorded in the USA and released first in the UK or with bonus tracks in the UK. I will say, however, that an artist that traditionally has sold poorly in the UK and well in the US would likely focus their releases on the US. Stevie has never sold badly in the UK, but her US sales are more than four times the amount she's sold in the UK (granted the population sizes are also vastly different).

Typically, though, I would expect the country where the artists sells the best to receive the most releases.

Gypsy-Rhiannon 04-12-2005 03:22 AM

Aw shucks... maybe you guys will have to order from the UK for a change if you son't want to wait! ;)

Pip

I LOVE ordering from the UK actually. You guys usually have to wait longer, but in my experience you have the superior versions of items. The Buffy and Angel UK sets are superior in terms of packaging, extras, the actual video quality(yeah widescreen) and you had them waaaaay before us. Same for BSG. I know, typically, you have to wait forever for stuff and the situations are reversed, but manufacturers seem to have their act together in region 2.

I didn't mean for my post to offend, merely to state that most decisions are motivated by money and thus it is not entirely illogical to presume that an artist who has sold very well in one place and not so well in another would focus releases on the place where he/she has done well.

Daniel's site (Stevie Nicks Info) is reporting Storytellers is getting a US release on June 7 and that it is indeed an extended edition with new footage.

thepoetinmyhear 04-12-2005 09:26 AM

This is great news for those in the UK and the US (sorry aussie (r.4) and other folks).

Most of these DVDs include two extra tracks that were not aired on the original broadcast. Stevie performed four songs not on the original broadcast:

Garbo
Rose Garden
Sleeping Angel
Gold Dust Woman

Which two do you think/hope we'll get. Here's what was on the Broadcast:

Dreams
Landslide
Stand Back
Rhiannon
After the Glitter Fades
Edge of Seventeen
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You

Michael

trackaghost 04-12-2005 10:52 AM

Definitely Sleeping Angel, but really I hope they put them all on there. I mean, what's four extra tracks? The show was short enough as it was.
They should put the full version of Dreams on it too IMO.

ontheEdgeof17 04-12-2005 11:28 AM

I would <3 to have the deadly "bootleg" question on the bonus footage. :D

Actually the bootleg question was included on the original broadcast assuming you are talking about the person that asked about "The forest of black roses"

I was looking at the other Sotrytellers DVDs this morning and they all only have two extra songs. My bet is on the inclusion of Gold Dust Woman and Sleeping Angel.

It's only on the bootleg. Which I can't watch because it's such horrific quality.

You are correct. For some reason I had convinced myself it occurred during the actual broadcast.

On a side note: I hope this question, Sleeping Angel and Gold Dust woman are what's included on the DVD.

Can someone tell me what happened? With the forest of the black roses question? I, of course, do not have the bootleg.

thepoetinmyhear 04-12-2005 02:33 PM

from Amy Costello's review on the Nicksfix:

"There were some audience questions asked and one guy asked about the Tower and Forest of Black roses??, and whether they would ever be released, she went off on this guy, saying those tapes were taken from her house, dubbed and returned and she never knew it, and she despises bootleggers, he was like, I didnt do it , Im sorry, I just love the songs. She never did answer the question."

Wowza! thanks. Sure would like to hear that. :D hehehehehe, Stevie going off on someone. In her audience. priceless.

It is included on the storytellers uncut boot, but as others have said the quality is terrible. The best part about the uncut footage was Stevie playing piano and singing the first few lines of Sara. This was back when most of us were sure it was never going to be played again.

She definitly didn't "go off" on the guy. I think she was actually pretty nice about it.

Nothing Speical. I think GDW wasn't included because she didn't tell the story. She actually forgot. Plus the music was weak on it. I don't think Sleeping Angel made it because some of her vocals were a little off, just my opinion though. Ive been watching Stand Back non stop lately. Totally rocks!

Id definitly buy this!
