Judy Wong's death confirmed
Hi all, I just wanted to take a minute and confirm what was mentioned this morning. Bob Welch just called me and told us she did pass away, at home, of a heart attack. She'd had heart problems for years, and had a massive heart attack ten years ago, and was having some health issues as of late. She was hospitalized, but checked herself out against doctor's advice, and unfortunately died at home. Bob just found out today, and told me I could post what we discussed here at the Ledge.
He had such nice things to say about her; she was a major part of Mac history-- she'd been his girlfriend for a brief while, and introduced him to the Fmac scene. She had been married to bassist Glen Cornick for awhile, who was in Bob Welch's band Paris. I believe he said she'd also helped w/ the FM tourbooks for many years, and that recently she'd been working w/ the Yardbirds. Mageboy25, how did you hear about Judy's death? Bob was surprised that we were already aware of it. He said Mick was in the process of trying to get a memorial together for her, as she really had no family. In several of those Rumours ers backstage tapes, you can catch glimpses of Judy here and there, behind the scenes. She was a friend of the band from the very beginning, and I'm sure she'll be missed by all of them. We here at the Penguin would like to say how sorry we are to hear of her passing, and we thank her for her role in looking after the people in the band we all love so much. -Lis |
Extremely sad news indeed. :(
Judy was always such an enigma, and I had always wanted to learn more about her... hoping perhaps she'd one day do a Q&A here with us. What I do know about her though, is that she was a beloved member of Fleetwood Mac's extended family, and I'm sure they'll each miss her deeply. |
Wow. I didn't exactly know Judy personally, but met her a couple times and purchased a lot of Fleetwood Mac memorabilia from her fairly recently. She seemed like a very sweet lady. My thoughts are with her friends & loved ones.

Terrible news. R.I.P. Judy. :distress:

RIP Judy Wong, "Say Hello To Heaven"...Way too many people seem to have passed away as of late (Which is why I havent watched TV since losing my own Mother).

I'm very, very sorry to hear about this. After reading that post this morning, I was hoping that it wasn't true. She was a part of Fleetwood Mac pretty much from the very beginning. My condolences to her friends & of course, to the various members of Fleetwood Mac who knew & loved her. This is very sad news indeed.

Aww...
No family? That's sad. :( Sorry to hear this news. My condolences to the FM family and all those who knew and loved her.

Judy is mentioned several times in Mick's book, and also appeared in the Mick DVD. She seemed to be a good person.

Rest in Peace Judy |
Wow, what very sad news for those who knew and loved her. She was totally someone I'd always connect with the band. Very sad. She must have been quite young.

Very sad news indeed....rest in peace, sweet girl! :(

Wow. This is so sad. It's hard to comprehend that someone from the FM camp has passed on. It's a strange feeling. Was it very recent?
May she rest in peace... Susie |
My best friend and I used to call up Seedy Management back in the mid-seventies, hoping that one of the band members would somehow answer the phone. On a few occasions we got Judy Wong. She was such a sweet lady, putting up with our adolescent questions and behavior. RIP, Judy -- you were already an angel way before you moved on to your new home...

Judy
I was thinking the same thing Pip. Mick, in particular, seemed very close to her in his dvd. She told those great stories about the crystals and stones that Mick carries around in the bag!
May she rest in peace. I am sure all the band members and their extended family are deeply saddened by the news. It is scary to have anyone within the Mac family pass away. RIP Madame Wong! |

I think she was around 60, give or take a few years. it is very odd, like you said Susie, that someone close to them has died. I don't like how this feels at all :distress: and I can only imagine how weird it is for those that knew her. I had e-mailed John about it and he said M called him yesterday; it hasn't 'sunk in yet' but obviously, he's very sad. :distress: I hope M can arrange something for her, esp if she has no family. The only good thing about funerals is that they do bring people together to reminisce about good times, and I'm sure they all have many good memories of Judy. -Lis |

RIP Judy Wong
:distress: I am sorry to hear about Judy Wong passing away from a heart attack. My condolences to all the members of Fleetwood Mac and everyone that knew and loved her.I was going to add her family to this, but I guess she did not have any. I am glad to hear Mick is going to have a memorial gathering for her.
Pray for guidance from above, shadow all your hopes with Love. Live your Life without a doubt, outside in, inside out. Lindsey Buckingham |
i remember when i was first getting into the band in the late 70's - and you know when you really love a record, you read every last inch of the liner notes? I think that's how I got to know about Judy. She seemed to be a member of the FM family.
And yes, it is weird to think about a peer of the band dying. Something I think about from time to time as Stevie and Lindsey march onward toward 60. Getting old sucks - but it's nice to know we'll have the records they made forever. |
Well, this is just terrible news. :distress: I'm sure the band is very sad. Rest in peace, Judy. I'm sure she will continue to look over the band from above.
|
R.I.P. Judy. To me you were the 6th member of The Mac. I'll never forget you.

Doggone it... spending too much time on the Vegas thread.
I guess I didn't know Judy had been ill. It's good that she didn't die a lingering awful death like from cancer. :( My heart goes out to those who are saddened by the loss of Judy. With Ms. Wong goes many memories of the folks who made the music that defined our generation, the music we love. There is one great book that will never be written. Thanks to Mick for seeing to her memorial. I'm sure her musical family loved her as much if not more than any family could have. At the risk of sounding trite, she's in a better place and hopefully making beautiful music with all the wonderful people we miss. Laura |
