Ten years for the Penguin!

Just wanted to mention that this website was launched ten years ago today!! Marty and I were married less than a year, had no kids, and had lots of time to focus on it... it was our baby. ;) And although a lot has changed, we still love that it exists and that so many FM fans have come together and shared so much here. I used to think I was the only one who loved them that way, and it has been great to find that others share my (perhaps somewhat unhealthy) obsession LOL.

Thanks to all the Ledgies for your info and humor over the years; many of you are fonts of knowledge and have really broadened my FM horizons. And thanks of course to Mac members and associates past and present-- for your music, for your support and kind words, for all of your incredible Q&A's (which are IMO one of the absolute coolest features of this site. I look at them sometimes and can't believe they are truly there LOL.)

So anyway there you go. Happy 10th Birthday, Penguin website. :xoxo:

-Lis

Here's to a site you should both be very proud of ~ and thanks for all you have done for the fans and for the band. I still say it should be the official website for Fleetwood Mac! You and Marty have done a fabulous job, and please know that all of your efforts and hard work are appreciated, so much! :xoxo:

Congratulations on 10 wonderful years!!!

Congratulations, Marty & Lis! :woohoo: :woohoo:

When I found this website when I first went online nearly 6 years ago, I assumed this was the official website of the band. I was very surprised when I found out it was a fan website. It was that good. Regardless, I will always consider The Penguin THE OFFICIAL Fleetwood Mac website. Great job, Marty & Lis! :] :] :]

GateandGarden 04-02-2005 11:39 AM

Happy 10th to The Penguin!

Marty and Lis, I appreciate everything you do so much. I can't describe to you what a joy it is to me to be a part of this board. There is no other place like it to me.

It is. The fact that the band doesn't say it is means absolutely nothing. Nomenclature is immaterial.

What makes this the official FM site is the plain fact that anyone out there who needs absolutely any FM information goes here first. (In fact, the portal page should say "The unofficially official site")

Happy 10th, Penguin!

Thanks to you Lis and Marty for keeping this site going the past ten years. I appreciate your hard work and dedication to making this the premier Fleetwood Mac website that it is. Thanks too, to all the Fleetwood Mac fans for sharing their stories, personal experiences, and photos. And to Fleetwood Mac for giving us the reason.

Happy 10th Penguin!

golddustwoman77 04-02-2005 01:13 PM

Congratulations on ten, successful years! This is the best Fleetwood Mac, web community around, and its success is due to all the hard work you, Marty and Lis, have put into making it an inviting and interesting place. Thanks for all you do and for making Ledgies like me feel welcome. I wish you many, many, many more years of success. :xoxo:

catinthedark 04-02-2005 01:14 PM

10 years????

Thud.

That's amazing, guys. Thanks so much for all the time you've put into keeping this community connected. It makes such a difference.

ThePenguin 04-02-2005 03:05 PM

you're all too sweet

Thanks for everyone's wonderful words. I'm so glad so many people enjoy this place. I guess I kind of feel like the Penguin is the 'official' site too...it's just been around forever...but I think maybe there are perks to not actually being 'official'. :woohoo:

trackaghost asked how many years the Ledge has been around..yikes, I don't even know, maybe 9? Marty is on a business trip rigth now so i can't even ask him. I know it took us a little while to get a message board up... but I think it was up when 'Time' came out...and I remember some of you from way back then, too, wow.....'isn't that weird?' :p

I'll admit for several years i was just too busy w/ my kids to be involved in it--I never read the Ledge etc... pretty much had to put FM on the backburner. I used to get so pissed at Marty for all the time he spent on the site LOL. But in the last few years it's sort of switched to where he's too busy for it, and now I'm the one that is into it. It's really been a blast.

Strange that when we first made the site, it was more of an homage to a band that we thought was sort of fading away... then when the Dance happened it was like a freaking miracle LOL. This band has accomplished so much, so many members, over so many years....it amazes me.

anyway enough rambling. Everyone's support is so much appreciated!

-Lis

Lis and Marty:

I came to this site ten years ago in December-I had gotten a modem for Christmas and I was so excited that I could go online. The first search I did was for Fleetwood Mac of course and The Penguin came up-I went to the Penguin in search of info about Lindsey's new album. I was blown away by the site and have been ever since. It definitely should be the official site and for most of us is, whether the band says so or not. Like you, Lis, I was sure I was alone in my obsession with the band-enough of those "Fleetwood Who's?" can make you feel that way fast :D I too have learned so much from the other Ledgie experts here.

Thanks to both of you for having this site-it is wonderful. Here's to another ten years!

The Ledge has been around since 1997 I know. That's when I found it and started posting. The MTV special was coming up and we were all so excited.

Happy 10th, Penguin!

Well I think The Penguin and the Legacy should share the unofficial official title.

The Penguin rocks so much, especially the Q and A's. Happy 10th. So is The Ledge also 10, was it here from the very beginning.

Yeah, I remember that someone even posted some 'fake' tour dates, too. That was when I was really naive about the internet and believed just about anything.

I remember the chats too on Sundays. They would alternate between the Nicksfix as it is now known and The Penguin each week. I would have one heck of a time getting on to anything with my primative WebTV.

ThePenguin 04-02-2005 05:09 PM

I'm traveling but can access the net too. Happy 10th birthday to the Penguin from me too. :) It has been a long, windy road so far. I have a version of the site saved from when it was a few months old-- it looks VERY different than it does right now and was a fraction of its current size. I'll post it soon for comparison. :)

The Ledge, for the record, was started on June 13, 1997.

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and help over the past 10 years to keep it alive and growing. Special thanks to Lis for putting up with me when I was obsessed with the site and putting all of my time into it. Thanks to her for the inspiration too and for the hard work that *she* has done over the years to make it so special and accurate. Love ya babe!

I was gullible about lots of stuff....Marty was more cynical; he didn't even believe it was really John that wrote us in '95 until we actually met him in '97 LOL. Marty was all "ask him this, ask him that, see if he knows about this yada yada!" ....and it was then that i knew I needed to handle all correspondence w/ the poor man LOL. I remember my initial response to him was rather suspicious, like "I don't know if we should assume you are actually Fleetwood Mac's John McVie, but we will assume you're a fan..' blah blah, and I gave him more info about the site. And so he then wrote back in his dry way, "This really is McVie!" and for some reason that's when I really believed it. I still shake my head in amazement even now. Can't even describe the sensation of absorbing that the people in FM might actually look at our site....

Hi Hon! We were writing at the same time (something that can't happen at home.) You know the site wouldn't exist without you; it would still all be only in my head. xoxo

smell ya later-

Yeah, "Pretty darn good" was part of his first critique of the site. Could my eyes have fallen upon sweeter words?! I used to ask him little things every once in awhile...not much, as it is my eternal fear that I will come across as a pain in the *ss. The world has him to thank for now knowing Chris' middle name, it's common knowledge now but back then it was nowhere to be found, and believe me I had spent hours of my life looking. ;) (He didn't know Lindsey's though, but I suppose that's forgivable, as he was never married to Lindsey.... :p )

But in any case, what a love he was/is to write us in the first place. :xoxo:

I think of the Legacy as the officially official site since they denied my registration to join. That's just like a real official site! Kinda cool!

Patti, you used to be such a sweet goofball back then. Remember Jan? You two were the Chat Sisters.

Remember Corey Gutilla? "Landslide" or "Slide" And "Vaughn" aka "Tusk"?

Plus lots of good old melodrama each week. . . .

And John Kinney used to get drunk & put wine bottles in his crotch! And we'd laugh & laugh & fall over & sing bird songs & swap photos of mammatus "mammary" clouds & then hop on the trolley to head downtown for a Swizzle Stik.
