Any Kiwis here? aka New Zealanders
Hey...I am trying to get financial aid at the moment to study abroad and have wanted to go to New Zealand for the last few years. Are there any New Zealanders who would be willing to help me out with questions, etc.?

And here's me, the other one
Alas no, I have not been back in quite a while...however...I do have a recent booklet with helpful www. sites for various Qs pertaining to NZ, so feel free to mail me as well, see what I can do. |

It's amazing
I lived in Melbourne for a year or so and met so many new zealanders... But not recently. I think they are all in London  |
Yeah evidently the native Maoris only make up about 10% of the population! whats up with that? Well I am going to try and get a study/work thing going by attending Massey Univ and then working part time to pay the rent.

Coz, I've been in the this part of Europe 20 years now and never thought of myself as anything other than a Kiwi. Just wondering.Never picked up a foreign accent either, still kept the old twang  |
Well,
The Welsh are somewhat the same towards the English... I've encountered so much dislike and genuine hatred from the Welsh in my time towards English friends of mine that I won't visit Wales myself, which is a shame because the scenery is great..
Funnily enough I encountered two retired Aussies visiting the UK today, when I mentioned my mother was in Sydney and Cairns last month they were really nice and friendly. I then made the grave mistake of saying she then went to NZ for 3 weeks and loved it, especially the scenery... That seemed to piss them off rather...  |
I personally love Australians :xoxo: having been brought up on neighbours
I spent a couple of years in japan, and a couple in the uk and we are very close siblings, nz and aus.. all the rivalry is based on nz inferiority complex... being so damn small and all.... :o |
Oh Lux...how sad for you, people can be so cruel, when your'e a kid! Guess you did the right thing and kinda blended in as best you could.I never realised the so-called "friendly" rivallry was that bad, and I have Aussie relatives..hmmm..
Your'e right though, going abroad at an "advanced" (hahahahaha) age was reatively easy although my accent was a great source of amusement for quite a while  In general, the Brits love Antipodeans and if you mention this, they're away with relation stories (like you know all their uncles/aunties who happen to live there! :) ) Madformac...I'm glad your Mum survived her hairy driving story and enjoyed the scenery  |
Yeah, I was told by one of the financial aid advisors: "You'll be either the butt of playful ridicule or fascination from the people of New Zealand because of your southern accent." It's not twangy like Tennesseans, but I DID grow up in south.

Whatever...you'll be fine, have a great time. |
I found out today I'll be getting a Stafford Loan to pay for the schooling...so I have to manage to save about $8000 from now until Dec.31st. I will leave the first week of January to get situated and I believe classes start mid-Feb. I can't wait. I don't think I'll be coming back to the States either *sniff*...my longtime girlfriend of nearly 3 years is NOT happy.

Digital animation and effects. I want to work for WETA digital. i'm going to do whatever I have to do to make it happen. And moving to NZ seems like the best start!

Yeah I'm glad I've figured it out too! WETA does digital effects and animation for feature films. They've worked on Star Wars, LOTR, and now King Kong. I've got to make this happen somehow...and I'm working towards that goal.
I have looked at what i'm making per hr, and made a plan to spend no more than $200 per week here. That way I should have just over $10,000 when I get there, which is $14,000 NZ. I should be able to get by for the first year on that, meanwhile getting a job as soon as I get there. It will not be easy, but I think I will enjoy the experience regardless. |

Yeah i'd hate to bring her with me and it not work out when she gets there. I think if a few months go by and she just cant go on without me, she may come out there and test the waters.
