the party pooper strikes again

okay, been holding it too long now :sorry:

a. i wish stevie won't tour this summer. i wish she'd spend her energies in the recording studio instead. it's been four years, and i'm getting older too...uh uh...

b. i pray to god that she won't become a vegas act. sharing honours with celine and elton is not really too grand an achievement to aspire to. love, let the grand costumes rest in peace, cher didn't ask for a replacement.

i'm glad that's off my chest now. thanx for listening.

skcin 03-23-2005 02:07 PM

You're welcome. :)

dissention 03-23-2005 02:16 PM

You're quite welcome and I agree on all counts.

Kelly 03-23-2005 02:16 PM

Vegas

I gotta agree with the Vegas thing. The idea of her doing some type of semi permanent residency thing there really turns my stomach. It's just so... ....whats the word? Commerical? Money driven? UGH. I hate the idea.
I would like her to record but girlfriend takes so friggin long to get a damn thing done on her albums it would mean her disappearing for two or three years. I am not sure I want that. I cannot imagine she is touring this summer without something to promote that is why I am thinking we might be getting some type of GH package or something. That would satisfy WB for awhile I guess. I was really having a hard time believing some of you guys were thinking she was writing and working away on her solo album all winter when she was in Hawaii. I doubt she has one song finished for the thing. :( She may have said she was gonna start it but she says alot of things.

what can i say, call me pathetic, but believing in her artistic integrity is all i have.

oh god, i just completed listening to the rest of the interview, she's talking about DANCERS! for god's sake! what's that supposed to mean? i thought she's a freakin' rock star!

cliffdweller 03-23-2005 02:29 PM

What irks me is that she's pulling out all the stops for these Vegas shows for the VEGAS CROWD! What gives? What are the rest of us (the real fans who would appreciate these shows the most) left with? I know, I know, sour grapes....

I'm excited for the fortunate Ledgies that get to go. I just wish she'd do something like this for a larger, more varied audience!

Edit: But no dancers please! God, we don't need dancers and bull**** for a Stevie Nicks tour do we?!!?!? LOL!

Kelly 03-23-2005 02:51 PM

agreed

I agree Tommer. I wish she had started writing right away but I just didn't buy it. Now we have a six month long tour predicted?? WTF..? Dancers?? OmGawd..lets hope she doesn't try to do some weird ass 80's Dance herself. She will just embarrass herself. I am glad i am going just to see what the heck she pulls out of her top hat.

Can you just imagine Lindsey's reaction to a show like this? The more I hear about it, the more convinced I am that he will be no where near Caesar's Palace. At least Mick will be there.

GardenStateGirlie 03-23-2005 03:03 PM

I don't think a promoter would ever front her the money for a huge travelling stage show--she wouldn't make it back in ticket sales, IMO. So, Vegas it is. I'm still debating whether or not I want to go. As time has gone on, it's now EXPENSIVE for me to get there and her tickets aren't cheap either because it's Vegas. I am trying to reason dropping $500+ for a three day excursion and I simply cannot do it.

As far as dancing, the only dancing I hope ever occurs on her stage is backsasser movements coming from Sharon and Jana and perhaps a little playful dance a la Stand Back with Carlos Rios. Other than that, let us grab a bottle, hunker down and pray for daylight.

amber 03-23-2005 03:15 PM

I think when she was talking about Dancers with Jim Ladd, they were making jokes, about how the young pop stars have to worry about their dancers and stuff, and they kind of went of on it again at the end, as a joke. So everybody stay calm. :)

She's bound to embarrass herself somehow because this is going to be an extravagant Vegas show; a little bitty stage show a la everything she's done in the past will not fly in Vegas. I'm worried, but I'm also optimistic at the chance of hearing some old songs. I just hope that she doesn't truly embarrass herself by attempting to do a big, theatrical, high-energy show when she simply cannot do it these days.

Yeah, you all might want to relisten to that section. Stevie is making fun of people who use dancers not suggesting that she is going to use them herself.

And.....JAZZ HANDS......

Serrart 03-23-2005 03:20 PM

If she's happy this way, for me it's okay. After thirty five years in the showbusiness she has deserved the right to make concerts when, where and how she wants, I think.

Exactly. I simply can't foresee anyone fronting the cash for her to do a travelling stage show like Midler's "Kiss My Brass". Talk about extravagant, she had a bloody orchestra with her on top of everything else. But that's because she makes a helluva lot of money when she tours and Stevie, while a little successful, doesn't. This will be a Vegas only deal, IMO.

Oh my gosh, I actually had a dream about her show, the night before last, and it was like that. I mean, bad and embarrassing in some ways. It seemed really real, too.
I was horrified, I hope she doesn't embarrass herself (at least not more than very minimally) like that, either.

SHe said in the interview every time she picks up the phone she seems to be playing some new place. : (As in, adding performance dates).

Put yourself in Stevie's reeboks for a minute......your pushen 60, you've been rockin' hard for 30 year's, you want to "semi-retire" but you still want to rock and roll, to me this sound's like a dream job! No more flying all over the world (you've already done that a thousand times), bring the people to me! Who know's, maybe she'll hate this, or she can't sell enough tickets or she'll do this just once and awhile, time will tell. Beside's, I've never been to Vegas before and I can't think of a better reason to go now!

I don't know. If you hear the opening strains of I Can't Wait, I'd be very worried that she's going to embarrass herself by doing those hand movements from the video...

Any artist of her caliber can book dates and venues, but that doesn't mean they're going to be fronted a helluva lot of cash for it like Midler or Cher or Madonna. There's no way, in my opinion, that she's going to take her Vegas act on the road because it would be too cost prohibitive. She doesn't make much money on the road as a solo act, so it would be kind of stupid for promoters to sink lots of cash into one of her tours; they'd just be throwing money away.

Now I'm scared again. I was really scared after the dream, because I hadn't even thought of that possibility - Everything was rainbows and butterflys in my head. But then I saw the other side of how it could be. Anyway, I'm sure it will be fine *premonition*

I would certainly love to see Stevie try her hand at a show like Midler's. A full orchestra, being lowered down from rafters on a carousel horse, having an amusement park for a stage, special videos and short movies made specifically for the big screen (the one Bette did with Judge Judy was a riot), etc. It would be hilarious and incredibly entertaining.

It sounds to me like her actual stage set is going to be much more elaborate than usual with lots of film in the background and i'm sure a **** ton of chiffon that could cloth a small third world country. There are plenty of acts in Vegas that are not high energy and still well done and well received. I don't think her fans expect high energy but random patrons may...especially for that kind of money. However, i'm optimistic she will have a good four day run and above all, enjoy herself and maybe gain a few new fans. To me, she's always a crowd pleaser and it sounds like most of her big fans will be in the front sections so it's not like she has to worry about sour reactions. In my eyes, she could walk onstage wearing pasties singing Mary Had a Little Lamb and i'd probably still cheer her on. Point being, I don't think she's going to embarass herself with whatever she may or may not do.

um...Stevie's not really hilarious, though. She's pretty serious about her "very personal, very emotional" songs. :p It's great for Bette, though.

You also must remember...a lot of people consider Midler to be more of a performer. Stevie is a rockstar and doesn't have a big schtick like Midler (aside from her clothes). Midler doesn't tour all of the time...Stevie tours A LOT. Therefore, when Midler tours, people go because they don't know when they'll see her again. Stevie has toured and or performs in some fashion nearly every year since 97'. It makes a difference, IMO.

How often does Bette even tour? She's almost like a Cher personality whereby you aren't just there to see a singer, you are there to see an entertainer all around.

Stevie's on the road seems every second year or so.

Stevie never fails to make me crack up with her pseudo-seriousness, dear. If only she would actually show more of herself on stage instead of being as reserved as she's been in recent years. She was bloody hilarious around the the time Street Angel came out. That Mark and Brian Show interview is one of her best, it had me in TEARS.

Of course it makes a difference, Stevie has oversaturated the market with her constant touring. That's no secret. Going out on a tour later this year without anything to really promote won't help matters, ESPECIALLY since she's so hot on the heels of the SYW tour. I can't wait to see the returns.

Doesn't Stevie still get abit of stage fright? I think that is the very reason she does stay so reserved, she is afraid of embarrassing herself.

She doesn't have new material (at least we don't think so, maybe she does? That would be cool if she springs a new song on us. Unless it's like Silver Girl, or Illume. ) but she sure has enough material, if she would just bust some of that sh** out, and give dreams a rest.

Well, it doesn't take a genius to realize that she's not going to be a big draw out on the road later this year. I think it's due to the fact that the Say You Will tour went on for as long as it did. The tickets were quite expensive, they hit the same markets over and over and over, and it just went on for too long, as evidenced by the sluggish ticket sales during the last leg. I think she should wait another year before treading back out into the water if she wants to make much money. And if she waits longer, you never know, she might decide to do and practice more rare songs and ****.

Part of me would love to see her go back into the studio and record something but part of me LIKES that she's always willing to go out and tour. Lord knows she's occupied me for the past few summers. However, yes, she has oversaturated the market and I think that's been more detremental to her than anything else. However, perhaps she will have something to promote this summer...maybe some secret weapon a la a BN reissue or something of that nature??

But that would entail playing BN songs without Lindsey in order to promote the reissue, you devil woman!

I'd just prefer new music. Sure, it's fun going to the concerts, but they only last a night and an album of great songs will be with you for the rest of your life and it makes the prospect of seeing her live again even more appealing.
