More Lori Q&A

More answers from Lori on Nicksfix. The first 3 are new for sure, I don't remember reading the other 4, maybe I missed them?

from Carly Pryor in LaGrange, GA
Hey Lori! I was fortunate enough to meet you in Phoenix at the AHI benefit in 2001. You were so friendly and sincere. I was wondering what you like to do outside of the music scene. I loved Arizona when I visited, it seemed so inspiring. Favorite TV show? Painting? Thanks! Love ya!

Lori's answer:

Hey Carly! Thank you for your kind words. When I’m not working on music, I’m taking care of my teenager. But if I have down time, I like to read, I LOVE watching old movies, and I like to hand-tint black and white photos. I like all kinds of TV shows.. but mostly sitcoms... right now, “Hope and Faith” (I love Kelly Rippa!) is a favorite... biographies of movie stars, especially the old Hollywood stars are so interesting and fun, too.

from D Stahli in Pittsburgh
What is your favorite song you sang with stevie that was not released yet? Favorite Demo?

Lori's answer:

Hi! One of my favorite unreleased song/demos is called “Julia.”

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
from John in Waterford
Hey Lori, Ive been a fan for years. My question is, in the early years of Stevie's solo career was there a back up singer who sang with you that sounded a lot like Stevie? The reason being I have a long running bet with my sister. She says that in the the song Edge of Seventeen the chorus part "sings a song sounds like she's singing" was not sung by Stevie but by a back up singer who sounded like her. Is that you or is my sister simply wrong. Sorry for the long question hope you can answer it.
Thanks, John

Lori's answer:

Hey John! Well, you just won your bet! On the record Bella Donna, Sharon and I were the only back-up singers. On “Edge of Seventeen” Stevie, Sharon and I sang on the chorus together, right from the beginning of the song.

from Dawn Bruner in Wichita
Hi Lori,
My question...what's the best thing about being Stevie Nicks' back up singer AND sister-in-law?

Lori's answer:

Hi Dawn! Well, let’s see..... Since we live together, I guess the best thing is that I get first pick on the background parts!!!! LOL (Just kidding, Sharona!) Seriously, one of the great things is that even though I don’t tour anymore, I still get to go out on the road to hang with Stevie and see the shows from time to time. And when my daughter’s not in school, she gets to go with me and experience life on the road as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
from Eddie in Fayetteville
Hi Lori,
Whats it like to live day to day around Stevie? She is so inspiring and her songs and words give me alot of comfort and help me deal with my fathers terminal illness. Does her music still continue to inspire you as well?

Lori's answer:

Hi Eddie! It’s wonderful to know that Stevie’s music is helping you through a difficult time. I hope that he will go in peace. It’s always inspiring to Stevie that her music affects people so deeply. Her music always has, and continues to inspire me, as well.... I can still be brought to tears by her words and incredible voice.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
from Nathan Ballew in Spartanburg, SC
Dear Lori,
Do you like being Stevie's sisterinlaw and is she different on the road than she is around you and Chris? What makes Stevie a great sisterinlaw? Thank you for answering these questions.
Love,
Nathan

Lori's answer:

Dear Nathan... Stevie is the same person... on the road and at home. She’s a great sister-in-law because we were friends first, then became family by marriage... nothing ever changed. If anything, our relationship has become stronger over the years, and she is supportive and helpful in raising our daughter.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
from Nikki Davis in Cincinnati
I just wanted to wish you and your family happy holidays...Stevie included of course. Lori I have fallen for her since the day I heard Sara. I was 9 yrs old then...I still listen to Stevie every single day. Anyway it is so wonderful to see you all make such beautiful music and memories for me. I will cherish these for the rest of my days..happy holidays to your family.

Lori's answer:

Dear Nikki! Thank you so much! We really enjoy making the music... I’m glad your memories are good ones! A very Happy New Year to you and yours!

Pleasantly surprised someone asked about an unreleased song & that she answered.

GardenStateGirlie 03-17-2005 09:01 AM

Ahhh...and Carly Pryor mixes it up a bit  Finally, a question not directly related to being Stevie's sister-in-law.

"from Greg in San Francisco

Since you and Sharon are so close to Stevie, how come you were unable to prevent her addition to pain killers and cocoaine? How could you NOT notice she was taking drugs?! I haven't heard any statements from you or Sharon taking any responsibility for taking care of someone thousands of people love and care about.

Lori's answer:

Hello Greg...

This is an interesting question, and a very heavy one. It’s also rather personal, and not one that I feel is really any body’s business but mine, Sharon’s, and Stevie’s. However, I will say that when one decides to get into drugs, whether their friends try to stop them or not, if they don’t want to stop, there’s not much anyone can do.... even those who have had interventions. Often times if you push an addict too hard, they cut you out of their life, then making it impossible to help them at all. Ultimately, it is the addict’s choice to stop. I could tell you of many addicts who went to rehab, and overdosed after they came out. Stevie is an extremely strong and determined woman, and no one has ever been able to tell her what to do. She is a woman who makes her own choices, and she is the one who made the choice to stop doing drugs (and smoking, by the way)!"

THANK YOU GREG for having the cajones to ask the question I have ALWAYS wanted to ask. And THANK YOU LORI for having the ovaries to answer it! Still... I cannot imagine that there was absolutely nothing Lori could have done to intervene. It makes me wonder whether Stevie surrounded herself with sycophants who were afraid to speak up and risk getting cut from the gravy train.

"She depended on her friends to tell her when to stop it..."

I doubt very much that that is the case in fact I would find that deeply hurtful if I was Lori or Sharon at the suggestion there was nothing they could do. I don't wish to make presumptions or throw cheap shots, but I am guessing Greg from San Fransisco may have had little to do with getting people off drugs because it is bloody hard, and you are the bad person if you try to help, and that wears down your spirit, plus in a lot of cases people just don't listen.

I always kind of wondered whether Lori and Sharon did drugs. I'm sure they may have tried them, but according to Stevie and everyone else drugs were everywhere back then and it was basically the thing to do. I just always assumed that they did them too but not as heavily as Stevie.

I always kind of wondered the same thing. I really just wanted to know if they at least tried to help her.

Though I do think the guy phrased it in a totally accusatory way. I could think of a billion better ways to ask that question.

I agree. It's a question that I've always wondered about, but like you said, it could have been less accusatory. The way the question was asked caught me off guard (albeit briefly). Cheers to Lori for answering it.

joe 03-19-2005 10:07 AM

The drug question...

Yes, it was definately blunt and could have been worded a little less accusatory for sure but i'm glad someone had the balls to ask it. It's something many of us have wanted to know.

I have yet to post any questions basically because I just can't pick one that is profound and different from the other slew of repetitive ones that get addressed. However, I had the same idea about the drug question. I thought about asking it, but was pretty much reserved to the fact that it would get thrown down...sorry for the pun....not really. :)

Anyway, I don't see these q&a forums as shedding any incredible light on such intensely personal topics. And drugs is certainly in that category. These forums seem to be light and easy...and I understand and respect that wholeheartedly.

Essentially, I was actually shocked to see that question posted. Yet, I don't think it's such a "personal, none of your business" question because Stevie decided to address the drug issue publicly for years now...almost to the point of excess, if you want my opinion. In past interviews, it's been brought to light too often....but that's the interviewer's fault - unless Stevie doesn't want to address the question. I really don't care to hear about it anymore - it's like the whole fm soap opera thing. We know the story so let's talk about something else.

Actually, what I WOULD like to hear are some crazy fun moments that she had while she was partying. It's like "ok, ok, we know the drugs were bad blah blah blah....but what were some of the "good" times???

wondergirl9847 03-19-2005 12:09 PM

What a dip

He could have asked it in a better way like "Did anyone ever try to approach Stevie about her drug problem back in the day when it got out of hand?"

Dur. She did answer it with class.

Why doesn't anyone ask what her favorite tour to be on was or does anyone in FM play practical jokes or something? What's her favorite state or country she's ever been to on tour? Maybe I didn't read every question and someone did.

catinthedark 03-19-2005 01:00 PM

My reaction when I saw that question was first, surprise that someone asked it like that.

But then - happiness - because it appears Lori and/or Sharon are answering every single question submitted (I mean, why else would she answer every single one that asks her what living with Stevie is like? Yawn-o-rama). Anyway, she certainly didn't have to answer the drugs one. I hope that means she'll answer mine... (which aren't about drugs)...

ChrystalGypsey 03-19-2005 04:35 PM

The drug thing was so common, I can't imagine Stevie's friends and family risking alienation from her by throwing her in rehab against her will. If everyone was high, then would they have known how bad it was? No one even treated cocaine like it was a real drug, rather a pick-me-up. If it was easy to control our friends lives, then no one would be addicted to anything  . I do think that question had a weird tone about it, like Lori was being yelled at... Christy

From what I understand, John Kinney gets thousands of questions, and submits them to the girls at random... you'd think he would combine the similar questions into one general, uber-question...this way they can answer more/different ones..........christy

He didn't get thousands for Lori and Sharon. He told me it was 300 each but I'm sure more keep getting added. He also said that Lori had hoped to answer them all but this might prove difficult with the numbers submitted.

There are over 5000 in the Ask Stevie queue

Mageboy25 03-20-2005 05:41 AM

LOL im sure, well at least theres a very good chance, that Lori was just as wasted as Stevie most of the time for years.

Go take a look at the US Festival video. If Lori isnt as high as Stevie im straight. Plus take into consideration as we all already know: It was no big deal to do drugs in the 70s as it is today. Interventions, rehab, and getting clean and sober in the early 80s wasn't as important as it is today.

Mageboy25 03-20-2005 05:43 AM

I think a better question would of been:

Lori if you were just as wasted as Stevie for years, did you buy your own drugs or did Stevie supply them for you lol?

Kelly 03-20-2005 07:23 AM

coke

There are a couple of videos where I think it looks like Lori is just as impaired as Stevie. (Red Rocks and the US Festival..come to mind) I do think it was the norm in the circles these people travelled in and Lori and Sharon were definately in that circle. Sharon never appeared impaired, at least imo, but she did live with Stevie for six years so...when in Rome..do like the Romans?
The question was asked in a very accusatory manner. Honestly can you really see anyone telling Stevie what to do? She almost blew a gasket when Lindsey very cautiously and tastefully spoke to her about changing her phrasing in a song...can you imagine if someone told her she needed to clean up? She would write a song about it and then they would cease to exist. These girls depended on her for their futures..why risk that?
I am glad that time in her life is OVER. Not a fan of fuzzed up Red Rocks Stevie.

I think the Loretta Perry Nicks is pulling our legs, kids...this was on the Nicksfix under Stevie Sightings and Mentions...

On March 17th two radio stations in Vegas broadcast interviews with Stevie:

97.1 The Point (Classic Hits): In this interview Stevie mentioned that she likes American Idol and would definitely try out if she was a young aspiring singer. She also said that a back-up singer who had not performed with her for a long time would likely sing with her at the Vegas shows.

Star 102.7 (80s Music): Stevie said the Vegas shows would have to be much bigger and flamboyant than a normal show, something that would be too much to take on the road. She talked about seeing both Celine and Elton at the Colosseum and being amazed at the massive size of the stage. She also discussed how she will pick songs for the show (lots of discussion with input from her associates) and said that she will be bringing out a lot of her old costumes that she hasn't worn in years. She also promised lots of spinning (the DJ wanted to make sure that would be part of the show).

Perhaps I should go to Vegas...

Hopefully it's more of the shawls she pulled out on the last leg of the tour that we hadn't seen in years--she looked gorgeous in them.

In reference to the backup singer, I wonder if this was supposed to be a "surprise." If so, Stevie inadvertantly blew it

Well, Sharon and Jana are definitely backing her for this venture so who else could she be referring to but Lori? Thusly, Lori has been playing us with her Q&A answers in reference to not performing with Stevie. I think she'll show up and join Sharon and Jana and sing  If that's the case, I have hope for some Nightbird.

I think M.M. is one of the absolute best backing vocalists Stevie has ever had. The way she, Sharon, Lori and Stevie sound together on the various 'Rock A Little' tracks is "something exquisite" to these ears.

I heard both of those interviews and my excitment went through the roof. Just hearing Stevie's voice, and I was reduced to a giddy idiot.

Although, the dj on Star 102.7 was just terrible. Saying stuff like, you are going to twirl aren't you, because if not why even go? Hardy har har. Dumbass. Stevie did say since the stage at Caesar's is so huge that the show will be 'more elaborate'. And yes she'll be twirling in many different outfits. We'll see................

Oh, and I'll bet anybody (it is Vegas), that she plays Nightbird.
