OK, maybe Penguin was a bit disjointed. But, Mystery To Me is the best Fleetwood Mac album ever, in my opinion. And, I've never heard "Hypnotized" described as a 'stupid, superstitious goof of sorts'. This person has no idea what they're talking about.

OK, that's a bit better. :) I would disagree with one thing though:

"None of these three singers on their own approaches the magic they are capable of generating together".

I think one of those 3 singers is just as good, if not better singing alone. ;)

YES YES YES I agree!!!!! Mick and John are so overlooked, it makes me nuts sometimes. Those great songs would be so much less great without their influence.

Just have a listen to the Curtis Bros' own version of "Blue Letter" (which sounds eerily similar to The Eagles), the bass part sounds like someone who'd only been playing bass for a couple of months...then listen to John McVie on Fleetwood Mac's version. The bass part there really is a symphony unto itself.

Absolutely. He's that way on so many songs, and yet it's so easy to 'not notice' what he is doing.

I like "Mystery to Me," but I like "Heroes Are Hard to Find" even better!

I wish the engineering on that album were better -- it sounds as if it were recorded behind pillows.

Yes, yes, but that's putting the cart before the horse, in a sense. Christine's piano & John's bass are inextricably entwined, mirrors of each other, all of a complementary piece. You can't have one without the other in these circumstances any more than you can have phosphate without the egg! If you take away the phosphate, you don't have a phosphate, & if you take away the egg, you don't have a phosphate! Where is your quintessence? John & Chris put the meta in metaphysics!

OK, your intelligence is far superior to mine, this has become obvious. what the &*^% is quintessence? :laugh:

I just like how they played together, so tight, it was amazing. And I still feel that John's best work has been on Chris's songs, he supports her voice so wonderfully, enhances her tone. Would've loved to hear how his basslines might've added to some stuff on ITM.
