Anyone Been Sick This Season?

Has anyone gotten really sick yet this winter?

I am sicker than a dog. It literally happened overnight on Tuesday and I was in pure misery until I finally went to the emergency room yesterday morning.

Aw - I'm sorry. Hope you feel better!

Does S.A.D. count? It's been really gloomy here for almost an entire month, and it's starting to wear on me -- emotions bubbling just under the surface, decreased appetite, etc. I'm a weepy mess.

heyjupiter678 02-19-2005 06:57 PM

Yes, I'm sick now, too. Really congested and achy and . . . just blah. I haven't felt like this in a looong time. Yuck. The flu is going around here and it seems like everyone is sick.

Feel better, diss. :xoxo:

dissention 02-19-2005 07:02 PM

That sucks, I hope you guys feel better. :xoxo:

I literally thought I was knocking on Death's door. Couldn't sleep, had cold sweats, tremors, fever, I couldn't swallow; you name it. I didn't get out of bed for almost three days, you should have seen how rank it was (and how atrocious I smelled). Never in my life have I been so sick.

Eh, go get laid. ;)

Or get Murphy Brown on DVD, that's what I've been watching all week and it certainly cheered me up.

GypsySorcerer 02-19-2005 07:04 PM

Sorry you've been ill, diss. Hope you're feeling better.

I haven't been sick this season, and I doubt I'll catch anything. I'm as healthy as a horse. I'm 24 and have never had strep, mono, or even the flu.

I'm so sorry you're not feeling well, being sick is the worst.
And, uh, no, I haven't gotten sick this year. I can't remember the last time, which is good, because I cry when i'm sick, it's very upsetting.
Please take it easy and get better. :xoxo:

Strep throat is my #1 enemy. I get it at least once a year. It's gotten to the point where I know when I'm about to get it, so I make an appointment ahead of time. But usually I'm too lazy and just go to the emergency room for Advil with codeine.

The pain I was in made me cry, dear. I thought I had a new strain of the flu or something. The doctor put me on these new intensive antiobiotics, the treatment only lasts five days. Two pills the first day and one for the next four days.

No, he didn't even tell me what was wrong. He just wrote the prescription. For all I know, I have VD.

I yelled at him because he stuck the tongue depressor down my throat twice. What a prick bastard he was. Then he had the gall to bitch me out for not waiting until Monday to make an appointment.

you yelled at him? Did you yell "Hey!!! Don't stick that thing down my throat again!!!!"?
actually, my friend's friend just went to the doctor for something similar, and they gave him antibiotics, too. I think he had a touch of bronchitis w/flu, though. Hopefully it will do something for you. :)

estranged4life 02-19-2005 07:20 PM

Yep...

had something similar to the flu for a few days a few weeks back...Except for more chronic throat/esophagus problems I am feeling fine.

Hope ya feel better

I thought you hated medication  - I am glad to see you are on it!!!!!!!!!

DeeGeMe 02-19-2005 09:46 PM

Take care of yourself Diss. My throat is my weak point too. My dad got the flu and ended up with bronchitis and then had to go on antibiotics. He was sick for almost a month.

StevieNicksEO17 02-19-2005 09:54 PM

Wow - this thread is right up my alley. I started getting really sick Monday night and I thought I had stomach flu...I still have it today and my mom got so sick of it she called the doctor and she was on vacation but the nurse said I might have acid reflux... I have no idea what is going on with me. I feel so sick but I haven't thrown up once. It's been so weird. One night I was sweating and freezing at the same time, and I had the shakes. It was so bad. I kinda feel better now...My parents let me eat chicken tonight so I'm happy to be back to real food instead of soup and toast. :)

WildInTheWind 02-20-2005 02:39 AM

I haven't been REALLY sick, but right now I have a terrible sore throat and cough. Just normal winter stuff, though.

If it's the Z pack, throw that in the trash because that works about as good as Midol  They've been pushing that damn Zithromax for the past 5 years and it really isn't enough to do anything. The last time I was REALLY REALLY sick *knocks on wood* was back in June right after the show in NY. I drove Kelly and I from down here, up to northern NJ to our friends house and then she drove us onto Long Island for the show. I was so sick at the concert and ended up missing a week of work. Of course I HAD to go to the Hershey show the following Saturday so against my better judgement, took my sick bones to PA with Kelly where we ended up loosing her handbag and having to stay in Hershey for the night because her car keys were in her handbag. I ended up relapsing two more times and then finally he gave me some hardcore Penacillin and something else to take as well but during that time period, i'd have a fever on and off. No fun. I really thought something else was wrong and I don't want that again. Everyone at work is starting to get sick and I will NOT be pleased if that comes my way :distress:

Feel better!!!

I know what you mean! Like Krista, I've never had the flu or mono, but I have had way too many cases of strep throat in my life! I used to get it at least once a year when I was younger, but it seems that the streak is over now that I'm an adult. I remember how much it sucked, though.

I hope you're feeling better, diss. I had to fight some kind of stomach virus a week ago and I wanted to die. I was lying in my bed in the dorm room and nothing I could do, NOTHING helped the pain. I threw up about twelve times in the course of four hours. I was so miserable that I was looking around the room for something that could be useful if I wanted to resort to a suicide attempt. I wouldn't have done that, but I just felt that bad. So I have an idea of what you're going through.

I was about to say the same thing. I refuse it on the spot if the doctor wants to write it for me.

Go back and tell them you want ten days of meds.

Good luck and feel better!

It's worked wonders for me, love. I can now actually swallow. The copay was enough to send my blood pressure through the roof, though.

There's a huge note in my file "NO ZITHROMAX." Total waste of money and doesn't ever knock anything out of me...ever.

Hopefully it worked for you but if you start feeling a little punkish soon, demand something else. Yea. I have no insurance presently but my doctor is good about hooking me up with sample packs of things. Buuut...I need bloodwork done. That'll be out of pocket. NO GOOD)!@*!)

Sugar 02-20-2005 02:34 PM

Right. The insidious thing about Zithromax is that it does start to work, and if they gave you 10 days of it it would probably kick your bug and make you well.

But on only five, it doesn't and you don't.

If it works, great, but if it doesn't don't be shy about asking for something else. You won't be the first... :D

eww, bloodwork. I've had my blood drawn three times in the last week, and the last time was Wednesday- the bitch took 11 vials! Three of them were supersized! I was about to bite her. and I have to go back on Wednesday! i hate bloodwork.

I'm just a crabby patty because I had to go to the hospital earlier this week. The bitch ****ed up my IV and my hand is still swollen and covered in bruises.

I have to say it worked on me and others I know. But, like all designer drugs, its application apparantly is limited if not sporadic - though its perscription is not.

EnchantedSLN 02-20-2005 05:39 PM

That sucks Diss, I hope you're feeling better. I've managed to go almost a year without being sick (maybe because I started taking vitamins?)... I just know it's coming, though.

DrummerDeanna 02-21-2005 10:44 AM

Hope you guys are feeling better - I was wondering about your decreased presence here diss :xoxo:

-----

I have managed to not get sick - until last night. I watched Desperate Housewives - all was fine - I went to be and then an hour later I woke up with the most horrid sore throat - I got up - took some random cold pills I had (they were all I could find) and then ate a cough drop - it didn't do much - but I was able to fall back to sleep...

Now - I'm at work and I feel like I'm high or something - the medicine I took has me feeling all weird.....I hate being sick so I'm trying to convince myself that i'm not - what's worse is that my boss is off all week - so we're short staffed and I can't take time off :distress:

---

On another note - I think I got S.A.D too...I mean I moved to Rochester from New Mexico (where the sun is ALWAYS shining) - and here? no sun a lot of the time - it hit me hard after Christmas - but having my dog has done wonders (oh and exercising has as well)

skcin 02-21-2005 01:42 PM

*gets up on soapbox*

OK, here's the deal. Everyone is getting sick, really bad. We have a ton of lab-confirmed flu, plus tonsilitis, sinusitis, bronchitis & pneumonia coming into the clinic. Everyone, whether you feel ill right now or not, should increase fluids, eat healthy & for God's sake wash your hands! Seriously, 20 times a day is not too much!

Think about all the stuff you touch every day & how many other have touched it - well, I don't want anyone to get OCD on me here, but let's say I have a runny nose. I quickly wipe my nose with a tissue, toss it out & walk out the door. You touch the door handle...you can see where thgis is going, right?

As for antibiotics - Z Pack is a great med, but it does NOT work on every bacteria known to man - neither does any other antibiotic. It's really hit & miss, they try to prescribe a drug that covers lots of different bugs without wiping out all of your body's normal bacteria & without you developing resistance.

*gets off soapbox*

OK, so Diss - glad you're feeling better! :wavey: But if I ever hear that you wasted the ER staff's time with your cold/flu/VD, you'll be hearing from me again!

lol...I've been drinking so much fluid that now I'm up to the bathroom every damn two minutes lol....and after work I'm going to load up on some meds/juices so that I can nip this thing before it gets any worse....

The hand washing thing is something I've become religious about....it's gross to think of all the things you come into contact with - shopping carts gross me out....

What sucks is my job - we share microphones - so two weeks ago the morning Edition guy was sick and i Just KNEW I'd get something - sharing his mic and all....that also freaks me out

estranged4life 02-21-2005 02:06 PM

Being married to a nurse...

doesnt do me any good, I am only exhausted due to my throat/esophagus issues which is starting to annoy me to no end...

Just imagine eating and each time you do you have food blocked in your esophagus and while you can inhale you cannot exhale...Yeah it is a major bitch & a half.

Give me the choice between the flu/cold bug and my ongoing throat ailments and I would gladly pick the flu/cold bug each time.

Are they hard plastic? I wipe the phones off here with rubbing alcohol wipes. Or are they soft & absorbent? Then you're pretty much screwed!

Yeah, shopping carts are ick. And I hate the thought of touching S&P or ketchup bottles at a restaurant if I'm eating finger foods (fries, wings, etc.)

ughhhh OMG - I never even thought about the ketchup bottle...thanks a lot lol....perhaps I'll start carrying handi-wipes or something - I'm becoming borderline OCD lol

And - we supply our own headphones luckily - so those I don't share - but the microphone - it's soft and spongy...and what's gross is I can like smell the cigarette breath of the morning guy on it  There are three of us who use the mic throughout the day - and as my boss pointed out we're not licking it or anything - but still I find it a bit gross...

I plan to have another Dr.appt soon, After my last surgery the probem of choking has taken a new extremely painful meaning...

So the X-rays & biopsy from this past summer (Saw FM on June 16 had surgery on June 22) did not show anything abnormal but something is definitely screwing up my esophagus that cannot be determined...

Everyone

GET WELL!!

Sesly, people, use Lysol, spray stuff down, it doesn't hurt. Wash your hands, please and thank you.

My dad was sick for about a month or so, and I mean SICK, I sprayed Lysol everyday around the house, I take vitamin C every day, and when my allergies get out of control, twice a day. I haven't had the flu or a cold in a long time, and for that, I'm grateful. Allergies....that's another story.
