Favorite Stevie Live Vocals

Stew's views on the quantity of negative Stevie criticism (Chit-Chat) gave me the idea to ask, "What are your favorite Stevie vocals in concert over the years?" For me, they are:
  • How Still My Love @ Los Angeles Forum 10-02-83 (by far my favorite live vocals ever by Stevie)
  • Sisters of the Moon @ Irvine Meadows 10-18-82
  • Landslide @ Osaka 12-04-77
Landslide @ Santa Monica BTM Tour Rehearsal (Rock Steady)
Landslide @ Detroit Joe Louis Arena 9-19-82
    (A three-way tie)
  • Edge of Seventeen @ Madison Square Garden 8-05-86 (what a galvanizing rip-shred performance in a tour filled with them)

WildInTheWind 02-15-2005 01:19 PM

I can't say specifics....any live rhiannon from the white album tour though. Or How still my love from WH tour. And I wish we had more bn live, because I think those tracks are my favorite Stevie vocals ever!!

THUD - drop dead both of them!!!!!!

I also think the At Last performance was great as was the Leather and Lace on the BD video.

I LOVE the two (I have only two) Silver Springs live 70's performaces.

I also think the Destiny from the HOB (both edited and unedited) are stunning.

Her EO17 from the Atlanta Enchanted tour was also very good, esp. the scream.

Those are just some amongst many - great thread BTW :wavey:

That's my favorite Edge. And though I'm not a fan of the current renditions of GDW, the one from that show is phenomenal.

cliffdweller 02-15-2005 01:49 PM

I agree--any Rhiannon from white album era.

Stand Back from the SYW tour. Lots of energy!

EO17, and Gold and Braid from the belladonna tour video.

Sister of the Moon and The Chain from Mirage tour.

Silver Springs, and GDW from The Dance.

Angel from Tusk tour.

I love the whole Red Rocks video too, however, I could have done with a little less spoken word lyrics in some of the songs. Her voice must have been killing her, it's either that or the cocaine high, I'm not sure.

skcin 02-15-2005 02:40 PM

I really have to dedicate more time to my bootlegs. I was so into trading for a while that I didn't really listen to everything I was getting. Concentrate, dammit!

I love Angel from one of the Japan 1980 shows.

Love Edge from the In Concert video.

At Last

Moony 02-15-2005 03:40 PM

I really don't have a lot of live Stevie, which makes me :distress: Anyway, from what I've heard...

"Rhiannon" on the Rosebud Doc & Live album.
"Edge" version on the Enchanted Box Set

That's it for me :(

strandinthewind 02-15-2005 03:42 PM

I MUST also mention Gold and Braid from the Bella Donna tour - any recording. Honorable mention goes to it on the Enchanted tour - but to me that tour was all about Sleeping Angel and After the Glitter Fades.

Think you could hook a brotha up with a good, live Sleeping Angel? :)

I love a bunch, all the usual ones people have said. But now, as always, I can bring it all down.

How could you possibly? I love needles and pins, but it's not a real complex harmony or anything.. This? I really don't get.

GretaRhiannon 02-15-2005 10:11 PM

I guess the last tour, cause it was the only time I've ever heard her live :(

henryscutter 02-15-2005 10:16 PM

I was around ten when I heard the live version of Edge of 17 on the radio and i I was all :blob2: :] That was the beginning of my obsession
From the shows I was able to attend:
Street Angel Tour (Ohio State Fair) = Destiny and HAEWAFY stood out, but it was also cool that she either sang or spoke ( I can't remember which) a couple lines from the song At the Fair ( which I had never heard at that point) Her voice was amazing in general that night.
The Dance (Gund Arena) I was all about Silver Springs and Stand Back, but I also loved her backing vocals on ISA and My Little Demon
The Enchanted Tour ( Blossom Music Center) The trilogy of Garbo, Rose Garden and Sleeping Angel were very good, Stand Back and Twisted really rocked that night
The Enchanted Tour (DTE Energy Center) This show was really a blur because we started out on the lawn and just before the show was about to start this lady came up out of the blue and asked if we would like to sit 4th row center  umm YES  This was the closest I had ever been at any concert. I think being that close to "the spectra of Stevie" was disabling my ability to concentrate  and the concert went by way too fast :distress: A couple of things that I remember were Stevie changing the words around a bit on Sleeping Angel ( which was excellent) and some guy throwing a teddy bear to her during Landslide. That was kinda funny cause when she saw him she held her hands out to catch it and smiled at him. ( i think the poor guy got dragged away by security) It is just a completely different experience when you are that close. It was all good.
Say You Will Tour ( Columbus Opening Night) BC and RTTG :woohoo:

Isn't that the one where they're singing the chorus:

o/~ If anyone falls in love
Somewhere, twilight
Dreamtime, somewhere in the
Back of your mind o/~

And Stevie just lets loose with a bluesy, growly o/~ BACK OF YO' MIND, BABE!! o/~

I love that one!

Or am I thinking of . . . ooh, yeah, I think I am . . . Charlotte 11-23-83. Ames is the one where she tries to do her yell on "How Still," & says, "I can't, I can't yell anymore."

I agree. I think Hartford is one of the best from 1987, along with Landover two weeks before that. A beautiful "Has Anyone" on Landover, maybe the best she did the whole tour.

Ames 83 is probably the best prformance ive ever heard of FIAnyone Falls from that tour. I am anxious to hear Charolotte and Miami. I think that tour got a lot better towards the end and of course we have less bootlegs from that leg, of course just my luck!

As for Tango, I have a video from either Ames or Inidianapolis thats pretty good vocally for her. I liked how on HAEWAFY they placed her mic near LIndseys usual spot. Gypsy was also very good on that video.

Interesting thread, David... thank you. :)

For me, Stevie's ultimate performance of "Rhiannon," will always be from the Rosebud film.
I had already seen her solo 'In Concert' performance of it, and the one from Fleetwood Mac's 'In Concert'... but when I saw the Rosebud clip on VH1 in 1987, it was forever seared into my brain as the be-all and end-all of "Rhiannons." She absolutely nailed it.

As far as "Landslide," my choice is a bit of an oddball one, I guess... as my favorite vocal performance is from the Letterman appearance in January of '98.

'Storytellers' has my favorite performances of "Edge Of Seventeen" and "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You."

My favorite "Gypsy" is from the AHI benefit in 2001, while my favorite "Gold Dust Woman" is from the Bob Welch & Friend concert, and my favorite "Dreams" can be found on the 'Live In Boston' DVD.

At the moment though, my all-time favorite Stevie live vocal, is the 'Live In Boston' "Beautiful Child."
Her voice is haunting, heartbreaking, breathtaking, and exhilarating all at once.
