GOS question

Has anyone heard any really clear versions of the GOS songs? I would really like to hear Twist of Fate and Wear You Down (my favs :D ) with a good quality sound. Do they exist?

henryscutter 02-10-2005 03:19 PM

ok, so no one has heard any clear versions of the GOS songs. Have to wait till he finally releases it, I guess :(

Henry...

I can send you Twist of Fate. Nancy has posted Steve's Riff (Wear You Down) on her site at buckinghamnicks.net. :)

Check your PM's.

Thanks Christy - If I did it right you should have a PM :)

I have a very good quality version, but the bass frequencies could stand to be improved a bit. It sounds just a bit "toppy" to my ears. I paid thru the ass for it on ebay. The things an obsessive music lover will do for that fix!

Hi all, first time poster! :wavey:

I'd recommend having a look on Soulseek. ;)

i downloaded around twenty songs and demos from a site, probably two years ago, and sadly i forget the address.

bleed to love her
blue turns to grey
come
deep dense
down on rodeo (my fave)
gift of screws
given thing
got to get away
miranda
murrow
my little demon
red rover
say goodbye
she smiled sweetly
shuffle riff
someone's gotta change your mind (other fave)
steal your heart away
the singer not the song
try for the sun
twist of fate
wear you down, steve's riff
wild ca

are there additional tracks on the ebay discs or bit torrents? most of the tracks i have sound pretty finished.

OMG you have demos of SYW songs?!?!? OMG is there anyway you can get them to me?

xxxmx 03-30-2005 06:26 PM

i guess they are demos, the SYW songs are as recorded several years ago, minus stevie. some of the tracks are unfinished, some are just liddy and his beautiful guitar. PM me...

miranda

What does the "Miranda" demo sound like? I just love "Miranda" on the SYW album and I wonder what a rough version would be like.

Anyway you could get these tracks out pretty please?

shackin'up 03-31-2005 03:00 AM

They are not demo's in my perspective. Most of it was finished songs just before the endmix and mastering. For songs like come, red rover, murrow you won't find differences besides the loss of quality. Miranda, SYHA and BTLH have Stevie in the endmix, so they sound different. Some of them could have done without her though......

Correct. The ones that are demos (Blue Turns to Grey, Steve's Riff, Given Thing, possibly Deep Dense) weren't included in the album's track list as of summer 2001, when the album was aborted for the final time. The others are all unmastered (but mixed) tracks for that final album.

That site that hosted the Gift Of Screws tracks unfortunately no longer exists.
Actually, the site that first hosted the MP3s is still up: The Underground. But she has other goodies up nowadays.

I wish it did though because I can't stand to see fans ripped off on eBay.
"Gift of Screams" really seems to be a cash cow for somebody, but I don't know whom. But bear in mind it's MP3-sourced, regardless of what that seller says.

Again, there is no "Miranda" demo in circulation -- it's the "Gift of Screws" track, circa 2001. Earlier in the thread, Brian J. posted the link to the EasyTree torrent, which has the best available GOS tracks online.

sometimes, it's best to paraphrase Gertrude Stein: "A demo is a demo is a demo ... but if it isn't a demo, it isn't a demo."

xxxmx 03-31-2005 06:44 PM

i know most of them aren't "demos" but if you can't get them, and you want them, i'll send them. PM me...

Of the ones that I have heard, I also think that Down On Rodeo and Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind are my favourites. They deserve to be released in proper sound quality. Can you hear me Annie? ;-)
I remember Try For the Sun sounding like another SayYou Wil track with different lyrics, but I don't remember which one. Can you help me out on that one? Thanks.

Maybe you hear the guitar sounding like Red Rover?

Right, that's closer if we're talking beginnings. All those songs must be examples of what he means by the guitar doing more work, but it's really him doing less composing, cuz they all sound too much alike.

Still, I love 'em all, so who cares! :D

I know youre just joking, but you could argue that there's more composing involved in that style because you have to work out the guitar arrangement, which is far more intricate & complex, tonally & rhythmically, than usual -- even for him.

People have the usual bias that "composing" is writing lyrics only, & that just ain't true. Every time youre concocting a guitar part or a bass part or even a keyboard part, youre composing (unless youre just ad libbing a part in the studio for a track, which happens too, like the Rhodes on GDW)

No, ITA. I'm not in the lyric camp at all. I WAS just trying to be funny. Never works. :p

I feel a need to be an equal opportunity offender since I make fun of Stevie a lot. :D Political correctness, ya know.

The stuff he does never ceases to amaze me. I'll always be in awe and never stop singing his praises.
