Boogeyman

Just saw this movie tonight...I was freaking out like the whole time! Except the end wasn't that bad... My friends and I went to see Hide and Seek instead but my friend Sarah forgot her ID! Poopoo! So we got stuck seeing Boogeyman... Anyone else see these movies?

GypsySorcerer 02-05-2005 11:31 AM

I don't do well in scary movies. I'm too nervous and fidgety.

I saw "The Wedding Date" last night; I had low expectations for it, but the movie didn't even reach them. Debra Messing wasn't good at all. :( But at least Dermot Mulroney is cute. ;)

Tonight, I may finally be seeing "Finding Neverland." :blob2:

Mulroney is so short, I almost can't believe it.

There is nothing out there that I want to see right now, surprisingly. Everything looks like crap. They're showing Cabaret with Liza down the street, I might go see that later.

wondergirl9847 02-05-2005 11:47 AM

Nope

Haven't seen any horror movies lately, and I'm not a fan of horror movies, anyways. Although, my fave is Lost Boys, it's not too gory though, except that one part, and I usually fast forward through that. Ew. LOL

I've only seen 3 movies this year....

The Passion of the Christ
The Incredibles
In Good Company

He is on the short side, but I'm 5'2", so it could work. Plus, I love the scar on his lip. ;)

'Tis definitely the slow season for movies. Post-Oscar, pre-summer. :(

StevieNicksEO17 02-05-2005 12:26 PM

I can't believe you guys don't like scary movies! Oh man :distress: I saw The Grudge also and it came out on DVD on Tuesday so I have to buy it! I can't wait for the Ring Two to come out!! Anyone seen the Ring??

The Ring, however. Ho****. Freaked me out.

Nothing out right now really looks good, though. :\ My mom always wants to see lame movies, but I always want to see the stuff that looks good. Which is usually why I tend to gravitate toward indie films.

I dug The Grudge. It was incredibly lame and pretentious (they call it "non-linear storytelling" and I call it "showing-off"), but it had some truly chilling moments. That chick with her jaw missing scared the bejesus out of me. The original was better, though, same with The Ring.

Mainstream movies suck these days, moreso than ever.

ontheEdgeof17 02-05-2005 01:18 PM

I hated The Grudge.

Worst. "Scary". Movie.

It wasn't scary a bit. I actually fell asleep during it. It was just lame...nothing else to say about it.

I thought The Ring was pretty putrid, but I'm looking forward to the sequel because Sissy Spacek has a big role in it.

I think The Ring 2 (as in the American version) may be okay as it's directed by Hideo Nakata, who directed Ringu and Ringu 2. (He's also directing the remake of The Entity, which sounds promising).
Oh and I like The Grudge, even though it's exactly the same as the original, although in a way it works better in the Japanese language, but it's always good to see Ted Raimi.

I HATED Ringu 2, but I'm certain Ring 2 will at least have some redeemable qualities if Sissy signed on for it.

She has so many movies coming out this year that I can't keep up!

StevieNicksEO17 02-05-2005 02:24 PM

It doesn't seem like you guys like scary movies too much... A lot of them scare me! In a lot of movies though you can tell when stuff is going to happen, so you prepare yourself for it. But that's okay :D

American audiences are rather stupid, that's why. ;) They need everything spelled out for them, they can't handle any ambiguity or anything that requires thinking.

I was just reading a giant article on how, etc. Asian movies are marketed. American studios buy them, but with only a few exceptions don't market them properly - even movies that have won numerous awards, etc. The times they have marketed them, they have done really well. But i read a few cases in the article that just pointed to very inept studio bumbling - and that's also when they talked about the remakes - studio heads think that they need to be remade/changed to appeal to american audiences. But again, the few Asian films they have marketed have done very well.
Anyways. :wavey:

IMO American studios remake Asian and European movies, because they think US audiences can't stand reality as it is but need to see it filtered through famous actors' faces, glossy settings, plastified cinematography and possibly a reassuring ending. But at the end, they had to give up: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon has been a huge international success, Zhang Yimou and Takeshi Kitano movies are still ignored by Academy but have found a public everywhere and after Lars Von Trier, Wong Kar-wai is going to have Nicole Kidman as star of his next film. Beware Hollywood...

If there was one movie I wished would have been a rousing success, it was Dogville. The fact that it got no Oscar nods is revolting.

The American critics got almost an heart attack already in Cannes, could you imagine the Academy Members' reaction? Bet most of them ran away screaming. :D

I loved Roger Ebert's review, especially the one on his ****ty TV show with that hack of all hacks Richard Roeper. "This film is anti-American and mean." He's such a blowhard, I can't stand him.

They were all paranoid. Lars Von Trier uses politics like he uses religion, only as a narrative tool, and the movie was universal, probably he thought it was just funnier to set the story in America :D , but it could have been a little village in France or in Italy. Relax Roger, it's only a film, and a pretty good one.

If I remember correctly, Ebert and that twerp Roeper were throwing one helluva hissy fit over the fact that Lars had never even been to America. And I was just thinking, 'Can you blame him, guys?'

I am so looking forward to Manderlay, it should be *fantastic.* :wavey:

Same here, I can't wait to see how Grace would defend the black population of Alabama  . I'm a bit worried for Bryce Dallas Howard, though, Hope Lars wouldn't be too bossy with her, she seems a nice girl.

I know, and this is only her second movie. Poor little creature. I think she'll be good, though, she has all the signs of a true star. She's beautiful and can act, what more do we need? :D

As for the plot, from what I've read, Grace helps the slaves overthrow Lauren Bacall as the plantation owner but then she becomes just as evil.

She'll do well, I'm sure, and Von Trier can be a tyrant but surely knows how to direct actors.

I just saw Phantom of the Opera tonight.

OMG! It was amazing. I was in total awe the whole time. Great costumes, set, and singing. The scene of Christine in the snow covered grave yard was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Minni Driver was f-ing fantastic!

The guys were hunks, too.

I don't think I have ever seen a movie that moved as dreadfully slow as Dogville. My word.

I <333333333333333333333333 Dogville. One of my favorite movies. That ending, jeezum crow. Absolutely shocking.

And Nicole Kidman was *divine* in it. The whole cast was. Patricia Clarkson and her Doctrine of Stoicism scene was disturbing as all get out.

I saw Boogeyman on Friday. My friend and I were getting muscle cramps from being so tense. I could really relate to the kid in the beginning because I used to do the same thing with objects in my room that scared me. I couldn't even close my eyes if my closet door was open even a crack. The movie kind of tanked though. It didn't develope much or go anywhere, and when I finally saw the boogeyman I was like "That's it?" It was still 100 times better than "Darkness" though.

I love horror movies! Halloween is my favorite. I've seen it a million times and it still scares the crap out of me.

ryan8472 02-06-2005 08:19 AM

I heard Lucy Lawless (who is awesome) is in Boogeyman. What's her role?

I saw her name in the credits, and after I was like "ummm, okay I don't remmeber seeing her!" I just looked up who she was on IMDb and it said she was Mary Jensen. I don't remember who that even was LOL

Speaking of horror movies, has anyone seen Saw? That one scared the living daylights out of me. It comes out on DVD next week, but I know I'll piss myself if I see it again.

It's bloody horrifying. My head was between my knees for most of the movie but when the last ten minutes came, I just about passed out. The folks who made that know how to make brilliant horror because I was on the verge of collapsing and in need of smelling salts. So gory and gross, but so compelling and nailbiting.

dissention 02-06-2005 03:53 PM

Oh, and Hide and Seek? SUCKED. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. DeNiro is a joke. Too bad the wonderful Elisabeth Shue and Amy Irving are going down in the same ship.

Saw is strictly for masochists and horror movie hounds. That was some of the most demented and twisted **** I've ever seen, it even blew Dario Argento's sickest flicks out of the water. But, I loved it. Rent it just for the head clamp scene alone.

I heard it was REALLY scary. I don't even know what it's about. My friend Marissa saw it and she's in my photography class and she was scared to go into the darkroom becuase of that movie! Did it have to do with the dark or something?!

She played the mother. I don't want ot give anything away, but there was one scene where she is laying there and I leaned over to my friend and said "That woman looks like Xena". Later on when the guy was having a flash back and we saw her without the age makeup we realized that it really was Lucy. Don't blink though or you'll miss her.
